  1. Great news about the fishing but is it just a coincidence that no sooner have we left the EU than we seem to have gotten our seasonal snow back? ?
  2. That just about sums up the attitude of the political elite in modern Europe. The same as the Jeremy Corbyn disciples, if you do not regard him as the answer to all the word's problems then you are too stupid to have an opinion worth listening to. I very rarely talk politics but have got on my high horse a bit in this topic. I am sick of the attitude that if you are white and working class but do not have a Che Guevara tattoo then you are a sub species. Ironic really as these middle class working class heroes have become the very thing that they purport to despise. That's me done and I'm
  3. It's interesting that you make the point of getting something that you voted for. I'm not pretending to be an expert on the EU and have not read a great deal about it not being a political animal, and a little knowledge is as they say a dangerous thing . But ...as I understand it, the fundamental of the founding fathers of the Council of Europe, the base line in the development of the EU, was to prevent extreme nationalism. No longer should the masses be trusted to give power to "political parties" such as the German National Socialist Party by means of a democratic voting system. These import
  4. I have always thought that membership of the EU was less beneficial to the UK that to other countries. My reasons may be dismissed as naive or irrelevant in the 21st century and probably no doubt xenophobic to those who disagree. Basically we are unique as an European country that was an EU member. It cannot be disputed that we are an island. The R.O.I position being complicated by N.I. and Iceland is officially a non-EU state. One of the fundamentals of EU foundation was to prevent future wars in Europe in the aftermath of WW2. I can well see the importance of this to other countries wh
  5. I hate throwing anything away but there are times when you must face the facts and just try and remember the good times that you had together and move on.
  6. That's a very good point regarding a gundog's continuous motion. I always used terriers for what is now called bushing to find and flush (catching was a bonus) for lurchers or whippets or the gun. I never felt the need to add anything else but they were jack of all trades and were only worked for sport/fun. Recent years I've been going out with a friends ESS's and their drive and work rate is incredible and a joy to see. But I find them hard to read as they go 100 mph all the time. I could well see a running dog having the same problem unlike following a terrier that has different gears and wh
  7. LED lamps (bulbs...but I was taught that bulbs are something that you plant in the garden) are made in most fittings now. Take the head light to an electrical wholesaler and they may have something that fits.
  8. It has probably already been mentioned on here and I'm too lazy to read back but watched the Gentleman last night and thoroughly enjoy it. Typical Guy Richie tounge in cheek British gangster film and a great cast. Couldn't quite work out if one of the main characters was meant to be a Geordie though.
  9. Siouxie Sioux had a certain something and didn't mind being groped at gigs.
  10. Fay Tozer was not just beautiful but seems to have real class. She still looked great on strictly last year. I remember when Steps were on the Big Breakfast at the time when Blair and the New Nazi party were in full swing destroying GB and Evans asked Steps what they thought about the foxhunting ban. Fay said she had never been foxhunting and so could not really give a considered opinion. They all just sat there open mouthed and you could hear a pin drop until the dark haired one said I think it's minging and they should all be locked up. The whole studio whooped and cheered like Americans. I
  11. I am probably stating the obvious to those that know but is conditioning a deerhound type not even more crucial to how it will perform more than other types? All working dogs should be in the best possible condition but we are not all always perfect in regard to that. A smaller whippet or greyhound sized dog can do the job asked when not in perfect condition, in the field, more easily than a larger deerhound stamp? Could be the reason why some folk think big dogs are too big to be of use.
  12. Which one? Sorry ? ...NE England. Quarry is still there but photo from about 35 year ago.
  13. Fake photographs in a way. The terriers were real and so were the rocks but not proper rock dogs working proper rock earths in the context of the thread. A local sandstone quarry that was usually part of daily exercise. Held a diverse range but rarely anything worth writing about. Was always worth trying though just in case. In the days when the lads working there would have a bit craic or regard you as an harmless idiot just walking his little dogs rather than phone the police or RSPCA.
  14. Those little Russell types have been around for a long time and have proved their worth if you can believe everything that you read. Very popular pet dogs when I was young. I owned one for about a year as a favour to a friend who asked if I could find an appropriate home for him as the family who had him were c**ts. He was tiny and angry but quickly settled in. He was also the most reckless terrier that I have seen. I refrain from using the word game, but he had no regard for his own safety and never learned from mistakes. He ended up with good people with a nice garden and a cat problem.
  15. Thought that was Mr. Chance and Benny from Crossroads. Turned Amy Turtle over a few times.
  16. Are there any restrictions on using a running type dog with no guns involved hunting game in Austria?
  17. I found this to be an interesting and informative book mostly dealing with the development of the KC Whippet as a racing, coursing and show dog in the 20th century. Loads of nice photographs as well including some of important dogs and bitches. One really bad bit of advice in the book though as one of the authors states that if you become serious about ferreting then you will leave your dog behind. Very wrong, a whippet is the greatest asset that a ferreter can have and there are few better sights than watching a whippet work with ferrets. A decent book all the same.
  18. Great photograph Foxpack 2. Bred for purpose but at the same time they have a real quality look and presence to them. Nice looking dogs.
  19. I didn't click on the link and listen to it but I love it. I love all the covers of the song for the simple reason it's probably a royalty cheque going Shane's way. Happy Christmas you scum bag and faggots ?
  20. Posting pictures of working terriers with correct conformation is always going to be open to cynical comments that they are not working dogs. By correct conformation I mean a type that is considered to be the ideal for a working terrier. The standards that working terriers have been judged on for conformation since when, 1960's? Those types existed when I 1st became interested in working terriers 40 or so year ago and they were bred for work. Showing was an enjoyable aside. Even the legendary "creators" of the Patterdale showed their dogs against the older types. People who have kep
  21. Terriers don't give a shit do they? Impressive looking men and horses and hounds, an hour or so later they may well have all probably came to a standstill waiting for the little white dog to his job.
  22. In reality people of all types have done that kind of job so male or female, black or white etc should not be an issue. It's just about making a profit making film. The producers of the film will make the decision based on how many people they think will pay money for their product.
  23. What were you expecting? A white heterosexual man? That would be most offensive.
