I can't help with that unless you have a DCM Delorean

I have been ignoring a good bit of advice that my Dad gave me that I usually adhere to... never talk about politics or religion in a bar. Not in a bar but I am having a drink. No more political input from me. But I may post more bollocks about whippet/greyhounds.

Agree. Ignorant of me but only have 1st hand experience of England ?
-
And some areas of England have not recovered to this day. Many individuals also never did. A complicated and emotive period of our history.

The true values behind socialism have been warped and betrayed by cracker jacks for many years. A bit like animal welfare.

A nice book in my opinion. Sort of a text book on the development of the whippet from a working man's race dog to a modern popular KC breed but written by people who knew what a whippet should be. Only slight criticism, and I wrote this on another thread, is Colonel Walsh's opinion that a serious ferreter will learn to leave his dog at home. But, I have no doubt that he went to his grave having forgotten more about dogs than I will have learned by the time I go to mine. Lots of great pictures also.

I didn't actually steal them, was just trying to sound hard, but used to buy them for the price of a pint of Ex from those that did.
-
That's a damned shame. Reading books could have so much enriched your lives.
-
Did you not steal them from the library like everyone else?

This 100 rabbits thing he cited. In places like that not only would I expect my terriers to catch the odd 1 but I would expect myself to take pick the occasional bunny .
-
I think the term he used was "sapling"
-
I remember reading something somewhere that he wrote stating expect a young lurcher to run over a 100 rabbits before catching 1. I found it to be a strange thing to write but have seen lurchers that make very hard work of catching a rabbit. Not something I've experienced with whippets or greyhounds or crosses between the 2.

It's as though the black dog knows he's going to be on Show Us Your White Dogs and is not happy about it.
-
My thoughts also. The only gain from creating a "line" using only those two breeds would be if your ideal is a dog mid sized between a whippet and greyhound with nothing else added. Would negative the variation in size that you get in 1st and 2nd cross litters. Must admit the 23/24" grews are cracking types.

My neighbour has just got one of those stupid wind chime things that's pissing me off, but... not that big a deal in comparison.

Have you ever owned an ugly dog OldPhil? Only joking (jealous), but that's another beauty!
-
Did any of his men die as a result of his actions or the objective was not achieved? I don't know.

This is 2nd hand but ...a friend who was in the RM's at the time cited it as the typical stupidly of an army officer. The Marines being clevererer than the army, a RM officer would never have compromised himself in that situation. He was always critical of the army and the Parachute Regiment in particular. Haven't seen him for years. I do sometimes wonder if the passage of time may have altered his opinion and recognise it as an act of true bravery.

That piper I referred to earlier was called Bill Millin. He asked a captured German soldier why did they did not target him and apparently the reply was "we thought you had lost your mind" He was 21 year old at the time. Respect.
-
That's the chap. I've just done quick Google on him. I forget there is no need to search for books these days. Apparently pipers leading charges was outlawed after WW1. When reminded of this Lovat said that's an English rule and we are Scottish!
-
Whenever I think of eccentric British army officers I'm put in mind of that Scottish laird in the Longest Day. Carrying his stutzen stocked stalking rifle and taking his piper with him. Whenever the film is on TV I always intend to try and read up him but never get around to it. Don't know how accurate the film is but stirling stuff. Not sure how happy the piper would have been going into battle with his pipes rather than a weapon but to some people the sound of the pipes is as bad/good as a weapon.

I do remember the seeing ads and right ups in the sporting press at the time that may have been of your breeding. Good stuff by all accounts. If that was you just calm down bonny lad.
-
You just seen to be making some bold claims in regard to the caliber of dogs that you are going to breed or sell? You lost your mam. Never good. RIP. I wish you the very best. But where you coming from?
-
That's it right there Gypsydog94. If some lines of some dogs get registered and they close the gene pool it will only effect them. Will have no effect on those who just keep on carrying on. Until carrying on is stopped. Then they are gone.
-
We shall see. Types of working dogs getting KC recognition has never effected anything in the last 140 years or so. Some people make money and breeds become effeminate. The real ones survive but only as long as their purpose survives.
