  1. Back to football, whatever the eventual outcome of this will be too late to effect recruitment. I just hope that Ashley does not cash in on Dubravka and Saint - Maximin, our price assets. Even though it was Dubravka and Andy Carroll who saved games and prevented relegation this season.
  2. What ever happened to the High Level bridge? Closed for repairs but when re-opened deemed unsound for road traffic other than buses ?
  3. The terrier on the right has a real old fashioned look to it. Both nice though.
  4. Reading through the last few pages and the "fear" that a Saudi funded takeover of NUFC will result in them building mosques in the area? They've missed the boat on that one as we've had them for years. There is one within walking distance of St. James'. Are there any urban areas of England mosque free? They have not had any effect on me personally, detrimental or otherwise. It's the greens and "liberals" who seem to want to fix things that aren't broken due to their own beliefs rather than what the people actually want or need. A congestion charge for Newcastle seems inevitable at some point.
  5. It's not all sweet out of pro football though is it chartpolski? I know nothing of the club you mention but a family member of mine has been involved with a boys club for quite some time. Initially because the coach of his lads under 8 team quit and he stepped in to keep the season going. He ended up getting his badges and carried on next season. Long story short he more or less took control and dragged the club up by its ears to where they needed to be in order to survive. He is successful in business and got the necessary sponsorship to improve the basics but also used his gift of patter/bul
  6. I wont pretend to be an expert on world politics and would soon get found out if tried but obviously the Saudis have "room for improvement". But will excluding them from the party help to bring them into the 21st century? It certainly wont make them any worse and they are allegedly trying to develop. From a selfish point of view what good could the takeover do for the north east of England? It may be PR bullshit but apparently Amanda Staveley is looking at the deal from a philanthropist as well as purely business perspective. She not only wants to develop Newcastle United the football club but
  7. Hawks and doves ? The potential buyers took the opportunity to get their "non-refundable" deposit back due to the incompetence and cowardice of those opposing the takeover not making a decision ... possibly? Hawks usually win.
  8. What happened to the two NUFC Saudi take over Topics?
  9. I have only owned 1 but he was as keen and as capable as a terrier regarding using his nose and working cover if needed. He was also clever enough when out with terriers, which was most of the time, to let the little dogs do the hard work and more often than not be in a good position when whatever was being hunted was flushed. A dog that was bred and reared to race took very little work to become a hunting dog.
  10. Is that based on Lord Orford introducing the bulldog of the day into his coursing hounds and that all British and Irish greyhounds go back to his bitch Czarrena? I have read that somewhere but seems implausible. A genuine question.
  11. Why is it always "run to the hills" ? The people living on the hills are in a very good defensive position. I say run to the sea and have a beach party until the drink runs out. Then go for a swim.
  12. I don't know if wearing a mask protects a person from the virus but I cannot see it doing any harm. Hopefully a relatively short term problem that we are all trying to deal with at the moment. Cannot see the problem with putting it on but I'm not surprised by the reluctance of people to wear one. Silica dust, created when drilling or cutting brick, breeze block, concrete etc. has been proved to be hazardous if breathed in. Causes silicosis that was called black lung in coal mining communities not too long ago. This is a proven thing. Give the lads tool box talks, get them face fit tested, give
  13. Just in case anyone does find the name of the terrier above offensive the way that the word has been spelt means the "i" is pronounced as it would be in the name Nigel.
  14. As I was scanning the Gould article for Sid g thought the advert on next page may be of interest, there has also been recent controversy even when it come to names given to black dogs ?
  15. WHS in Newcastle used to stock hunting/shooting mags in the hobby section. Then they moved onto top shelf. Went in one day looking for something worth reading and after hunting among Razzle and such like and gay sex mags and getting funny looks from other shoppers I asked an assistant where do you keep Airgun World now? She replied "we don't sell those sorts of magazines anymore"
  16. I had another "clear out" today. A clear out tending to be hours spent pulling things out of storage, getting rid of 0.1% and then just moving stuff about and storing in different places. Came across these that I had forgotten about. Some good articles and photographs. Did not last long though. Probably an ED-RD prototype.
  17. Living the dream or rather living in a place where I truly want to live is something that has always been on my mind. I have always bottled it or overtought it. Worst case, move somewhere that looks ok but the urban sprawl and/or tourism follows in my lifetime and my heaven turns into a hell. Obvious solution, move somewhere so remote that the possibility of that happening is unlikely. But the further that away you move from people the more difficult it is to earn a living. Catch 22. Looking at the prices of dogs these days I seem to have a Russell that is worth at least £2000. If I were
  18. I should have done more of a trial on this particular vape pen before recommending it. Broke 2 over the weekend. The glass "clearomisor" component is not robust. Have been replaced by a more expensive product. Still happy with vaping rather than smoking though. People have commented that it is still feeding a nicotine addiction, fair comment, but from my point of view at present it is without the tar and carbon monoxide. To date smoking has had no adverse effects on my health. I pass medical checks with flying colours. After a life time of smoking, drinking and eating whatever I please the res
  19. Not the same litter but the physical similarity is remarkable. I know both from the same base breeds but I would have expected more variation. It's almost as though crossing those breeds throws a distinct type.
  20. Looks very like dogs from a litter a friend bred, ESS x Patterdale. An accidental mating but the one he kept is a very useful dog.
  21. It's been 10 days now since I smoked a cigarette. No big deal of course and a mere 10 days does not equate to having quit for good.. But what has surprised me is how easy it has been. I have been a smoker for about 40 years and a relatively heavy smoker for some time. The last time that I bought 20 purely on a whim I also got the vape pen pictured. According to friends who "vape" there are far better makes and models out there but it only cost £12 and £3 for the liquid. It has been a seamless and painless transition from cigarettes to vape from the 1st time I used it. The 20 pack is still her
  22. A perfect example of how unrighteous the self-righteous often are.
