I think lung worm is rare enough but at the same time quite possible. If you suspect its lung worm lung worm he has he needs a vet to give something for it. I know lung worm is fatal if left untreated.

Best X For Only Lamping Rabbits Small Fields?
rabbit demon replied to Lurcherdog96's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Iv a beddy whippet thats class for lamping small fields and general rough ground. Shes more like a whippet with thicker skin and a bit of coat. I still had to put a awful lot of work into her and get her lamping at every opportunity and stop her hunting up. Theres no many rabbits that gets away from her on the lamp. Her only downside is shes stubborn and was very hard to train. -
Been chased out a field by a crazy donkey too.

I give horses and certain breeds of cattle a wide berth when I have the dog with me. Had a few hairy moments with them. Was crossing a field on my own once when a group of horses and ponies came up to me and surrounded me. Bloody things started fighting between themselves, one big mare started kicking and biting the others and them kicking back. I was stuck in the middle of them. That was a dodgy moment. Got surrounded out ferreting by a massive herd of cattle. My daughter was with me shes only 7 and started screaming. Im no normally frightened by cattle but my wee girl was screaming that much

Big Dog Fox...has It The Power??
rabbit demon replied to darren247's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
We shouldnt show pics of injurys to dogs from work or ragged foxes on a open forum for the bloodsport mob to get a hold of because they can use it as propaganda and put any story to a picture to mislead people who know nothing about our ways of life and build sympathy for their own cause. Which is to ban all types hunting, fishing and farming practices. Videos made the general public aware of badger hunting and the antis were regarded as nuts but they shouted the loudest at the time and now you cant hunt them. They done the same with the hunting with hounds act. Because its legal to hunt fox i -
Thanks troyboy. She turned out a really good dog for lamping and ferreting and is game as. 21 tts and seriously head strong at times. Initially got her just to help out ferreting.

It is good to just get out. Thank you sir.

It be too hot for the lurcher catching multiple bolters but one or two wouldnt do her no harm. We got a cool breeze where we were and a few light showers so it was just a nice day. Stinging nettles get to the dog and me more at this time of year.

She has an idea what shes looking for now and she will pick up marking quicker as shes got the other dog to teach her. Getting used to livestock too. Had to bark at the sheep for 5 minutes. I told her to quit it and she never looked at them the rest of the day. So far so good. It all takes time.

Thanks Arry. Just trying to keep them occupied till the cover dies down.

had the pup out on tuesday for a few hours took my lassie with me and headed out to a permission to get the pup started. her first time out and she doesnt really know whats going on so she has a wee lie down on top of the burrow. nice one dug. we walked for miles and were nearly 2 hours before we got a mark which would have been missed if the wee lurcher wasnt there. the pup was showing interest too. could only see one hole as the grass was knee high and because of the lack of rabbits due to mixy the place is overgrown now. so put the net over the hole and threw in the ferret

They will be sound going into it with the older jill, as long as their not skulkers or you could be in for a wee wait to get them back. If 10 holes is your smallest warren on your ground theres not much you can do. Most of my kits start on big sandy warrens where its 30 plus holes.

I remember before the ban came into the uk. Drug dealers and wrong uns going around setting their dogs on people in my area and thinking it was funny. Setting them on police when they were raiding their houses too. The breed does attract some of the mental cases. When the ban came in most of these same guys still had their dogs and were at the same crap with them. Very few lost their dogs. Bans only affect the law abiding who's dogs are family pets. The nutters will just move their dogs around and keep them in safe houses.

My daughter has had them catch their nails on her clothing a good few times so I just got into the routine of cutting their nails. Realised it stopped them climbing also which saved me from adding extra bits to the run. Their useed to it now. 5 mins to cut all of their nails.
-
I find mine are not so keen to climb when their nails have been trimmed. When they start scaling the mesh on their run or climbing anything else its time to cut the nails again.

Iv never culled a ferret for biting in all the years iv kept them but iv seen a two that should have been culled.

Some are wee fookers. Iv had a couple of kits that would give a nip at nearly a year old. I had a rescue also that had my forearms black and blue for around 6 months. She was getting every spare moment of every day put into her and she will still give the odd bite now and again if the mood takes her. She manged to give me a wee scar on my nose last year because she can climb anything and shes super quick. They all have different temperaments and characters. Ferrets are clever as well if they sense the slightest bit of nervousness they play on it too. I would persist with it unless it was causi

Least you dont need to worry about it blowing away in a storm. Thats a cracking hutch.

I got a hob and jill kit that fight over the slightest thing. Then theres a jill kit that follows me around and wants human interaction more as she frightened of everything. Due to her being so placid and really human friendly my lassie claimed her straight away. Im not holding my breath on that kit being much of a worker. None of my kits seem to get on and their all from the same litter. The mother is a serious head and slightly wild. Shes not a biter but has and does bite if she gets annoyed.
-
My hob is still in season.

Both Cracking fish. Is that a tuna in the bottom picture ?.

My spots got hit last year with a bad dose of myxi. Totally wiped everything for miles, dog only managed 6 rabbits last year and I was on the verge of packing in dogs and ferrets. Still might if my new permissions get hit. Farmers, gardeners and people that dont want lamping on their land delibratly spreading it here. I imagine their was a lot of lambs lost year as I was calling in foxes and could count 12 pairs of eyes within a couple of squeaks. Normally shy foxes were running in 2 and 3 at time.
