  1. I don't know about going deep, wouldn't you still see mole hills ! I can't believe I killed them all.
  2. Another problem !!! Just set up my reloading rig and was de-priming some cases (.22 Hornet, once fired Hornady cases). After about a dozen cases the pin of the de-primer jammed in the case and became detached from the die, leaving it (the pin) stuck in the flash hole in the case and protruding through it so the case will not come out of the shell holder. I know tomorrow I can get it out at work but will it fit back into the die ? (Lee die). On close inspection of the cases I saw that some of the flash holes were not central in the primer pocket, presumably this is what caused the jam. Anyo

  4. There were quite a few moles around our small industrial estate and surrounding fields earlier in the year. I caught about five. Now, in the summer, there is no sign of mole activity at all - have they gone on holiday !
  5. The guide lines only state your co-habitee or civil partner are not acceptable. If you have not entered into a civil partnership and are only co-habiting then the key term is "in-laws". There is nothing in law to link you to them. Try making this point to the authorities. (and best of luck !! )
  6. He says he lives in France - maybe driving on the wrong side of the road round bends is just a French thing! Anyhow, shooting over a footpath with no view of who might walk round the corner is totally dumb.
  7. Yeah, the cars were driving on the left. It's just this sort of thing that reinforces the arguments for licensing of air rifles. An idividual with absolutly no imagination putting our sport at risk.
  8. What's the best time of day for squirrels?
  9. The thought of RemyBolt out in a field with a gun, dosed up with heroin is awesome !!
  10. Providing the scope is in good order, it's not mounted correctly. You could try swapping the mounts round, front to back, change sides that you tighten the mounts on. Wind the turrets to a central position and try again. If that doesn't work check your moderator - in fact check it first. See if the pellets are clipping it.
  11. With a pad inside it sounds like an air rifle mod. Anyhow, just chuck it away, a decent SAK is cheap. I've got a spare I could give you buts it's on my FACert. and would need to be in person. PS. When I say "chuck it away" you need to get a RFD to dispose of it otherwise it will still be on your cert.
  12. Where on earth were the parents ? I thought the kids might have just sneaked out an unsecured rifle whilst Dad was away until he said " I can't get my gun to load". It's just fun to them until he shoots his brother in the face - then there is an uproar about how dangerous sir rifles are and they all should be banned / licensed !
  13. I've just spent an hour drawing diagrams to try and get my head round the phenomenon of crossover with scopes. As far as I can see, a scope fitted parallel to the bore but not directly over it will result in crossover. i.e. sighted dead on at 50 yards will shoot to one side at 100 yards and to the opposite side at 25 yards. I have noticed this on one of my rifles. Apparently a scope fitted at an angle to the bore but directly above it will shoot straight after the reticule is adjusted. If we take it that the factory cut the grooves correctly that leaves us with the mounts, Sho
  14. olliegg1 - you need to do a bit of research about different types of rifles. have a look on the web for any reviews and write-ups. A Remington Express purchased in this country will be below the legal limit and requires no licence.
  15. I got these mounts with my second hand .22 Hornet. How do you rate them? I'm inclined to used regular double screw mounts myself.
  16. I told you it was the wind ! Avoid farting just as you pull the trigger !
  17. Definatly an old buck! I had a 3/4 grown rabbit last night and it was beautiful ! Boiled then lightly fried with mash, gravy and peas - no fancy herbs or anything - the dog had two helpings.
  18. If the paper wont fit easily just take the stock off and sand down the barrel reccess until it's clear of the barrel, not much! Don't forget to seal the bare wood against moisture - wood oil or similar.
  19. Firearms certificates can be difficult to get ! Plus you have to fit a permanent gun cabinet and take many more security precautions than for an air rifle. However, there is no harm in trying, your age is fine. If things in Scotland progress towards licencing air rifles you are going to have to do the same anyhow.
  20. If the rifle is new to you check that a piece of paper will slide between the barrel and stock all the way along. Any points where the barrel touches the wood will affect the accuracy.
  21. That long ! I was thinking of about the same length as the section of bar i.e. 10mm bar: 10 mm long.
  22. I used plastic for my piston sleeve. The base of a packet of Sainsbury's cooked meat! It's flat, quite thick and tough. Can be moulded with a little heat. I cut some tabs on the end and bent them over, warm, to act as a retainer at the top of the piston.
  23. Johm Stott is right. If you can, consider a rimfire. No noisier than an air rifle and you will double/treble you effective range plus chest shots will knock them down just as well as head shots.
  24. By re-setting the trigger i meant just releasing it. It has to be cocked to fit in. I forgot to uncock/fire it and it wouldn't cock - dumb mistake !
