  1. Ratbuster - was your's made before they started makingthen in Spain (Gammo)?
  2. I'm afraid I find it a bit sad ! But whatever floats your boat. I bet he has an app. to check the petrol consumption on his car !
  3. Maybe the good old UK is not so bad after all ! At least we can go and pot rats etc. Mind you, according to the 'General license' you're not allowed to go out and shoot a pigeon to eat but you can eat it after you have shot it as vermin !
  4. I've seen this for sale, the guy didn't know if was one of the older British made ones. Has a custom stock. Any ideas about the age? I'd have it if it was an older model.
  5. Yeah Darren, set trigger, same as my CZ453 hmr. I don't care for it on the hmr, when set it's too far forward for my short fingers and i tend to push it sideways plus I like to feel a bit of tension before I squeeze. I had a play with the trigger settings today, much improved ! I only had to use a combination of the adjusting screws, no polishing required, and now it's about perfect, guess at about 2+ lbs and crisp. Battling the winds today I fired it side by side with the hmr - considerable difference. Could only get a target out to 50 yards but the 35g V-max were all touching.
  6. It came with a SAK mod, let out a pretty loud blast, fitted my Swift Precision Nightingale and that moderated it much better. I don't know if it's worth the hastle of trying different mods, it can become obsesive ! Sporting Shooter - the Kynoch rounds look quite old, the tips have gone dull, not the copper jacket, the point. 45 left if anyone collects them, fired 5 off ! When the wind drops below 80mph I'll get out again at longer ranges . I'm quite looking forward to reloading, love to fiddle with things. On closer inspection I've found a couple of things wrong, the main trig
  7. I finally got my Hornet yesterday and got out with it today, a CZ 527, It's a lot lighter than my CZ455 .17hmr and a totally different beast ! It goes off with a fair 'blat', bit more than the hmr but not too bad. Which raises a question. Is the increased noise from more powerful calibres caused by the extra powder and blast or does the level of the sonic crack increase with speed and/or bullet diameter? Just to try it I used the Vomz scope that came with it. Russian made, fixed power 4x32 with a military stye reticule. It was surprisingly good, looks as tough as old boots, short and l
  8. Are they OK on break barrek rifles considering the strain and shock on cocking?
  9. I think I finally managed to stuff about 5mm in, didn't seem to make much difference so I've got it apart again, thinking of a new spring. I did try a new Titan spring (#2 for the 99) but it wouldn't fit in with the piston sleeve so I tried taking some of the diameter off and screwed it ! It's easy to forget the trigger, it just comes to a clunking stop when you try to cock, no nearly latching or sliding off.
  10. Are you going to try a different spring to bring the power up a bit? I see you managed to get those little square insets out OK, bit of a bugger, aren't they! Mine popped all over the place first time I tried. I thought I'd put too many preload washers in mine because it wouldn't cock - then I realised I hadn't reased the trigger !
  11. ferretman - if you get across near Lancaster I'd be glad to test it for you.
  12. I just picked up a lovely Leupold Mark 4, 3.5-10x40 today, I'm torn between putting it on my new Hornet or selling it on. I was really wanting more magnification as my old eyes are not what they used to be, I'll have to try it and see how it goes.
  13. Good info. A Lee kit it is then! I'll try and find a dealer who can supply the dies as well - any recomendations? I picked up the rifle today, after nearly 8 hours up and down the M6 , so off for a shot in the morning - then I'll sort out the trigger, it's dreadfull.
  14. Charlie, thanks for the info. Are the flairing and crimping seperate operations from the neck sizing and seating. Another newbie question - which one decaps the round or is that seperate as well?
  15. PS. Get a moderator !! Makes everything much pleasanter plus you will still be able to hear your phone ring afterwards !
  16. The hmr does not make a mess of rabbits - even a chest shot leaves the back in eatable condition ( maybe not if you're wanting to sell them). Head shots are reliable to 100 yards no problem. You will be lucky to get .22lr or .17hmr passed for foxes if you tell your FEO that's what you intend. I have two .22lr's and a hmr, which I'm changing for a .22 Hornet for that very reason. Recently I've been practising with the .22 subs and can quite confidently hit head shots at 90 - 100 yards in good conditions. The only real drawback of the .22lr over the hmr is the ricochet issue in certain l
  17. Celtic - there was a press for sale of Facebook a couple of days ago, think it was £20. It's a guy I bought some mags off so he seems OK. I'll look up the link and let you know. Coypu, thanks for thr offer, I'll do that.
  18. I've been doing some more research and, apparently, Lee is good kit. I beieve I need a set of dies (Lee Delux) for decapping and neck resizing and bullet seating. For Hornet I don't need a full case resizer. In the kits the deburer and trimmer will be hand held but not a great problem for small quantities A case holder/stand is not included but I've got some nice hardwood and some sharp drills ! As for a manual, I'm not sure about buying a 200 page book to read two pages on Hornet reloading, the powder and bullet manufacturers websites seen to give comprehensive info.
  19. I'm just about to start reloading for a .22 Hornet. I have looked at various adverts and wondered if anyone could rate this kit - Lee Breech Lock Challenger Reloading Press Kit http://www.opticswarehouse.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=lee_breech_lock_challenger_reloading_press_kit I don't want cheap and cheerfull or excessive quality and have no plans to reload other calibres. What extra dies etc. would I require?
  20. Thanks for the info ! I was being numb again - it's a 527! No t that it makes a lot of difference.
  21. I'm about to pick up a CZ 452 in .22 Hornet, little used and i expect it's in factpry condition i.e. no tuming. When I'm trying, adjusting the trigger wil I do it any harm repeatedly dry firing? Is there any point in leaving a spent round in the chamber?
  22. Headach - eye strain comes from trying to keep my eye in line with the optics so I can follow the beam. Alsone - I don't do much goose shooting with the hmr so no worries about aeroplanes !
  23. I think we all get it ! I've been doing up a HW80 and last week I was managing 1" - 3/4" groups (still needs a softer spring), today I was lucky to get under 1 1/2" ! Start fiddling with different pellets etc. just seems to make it worse. Looking down the scope, going through things - is my cheek pressing down, am I holding too tight, where is my finger on the trigger, am I pulling or sqeezing !!! It wil drive you mad My solution was to take out the hmr and put five shots in the same hole at 48 yards ! Why 48 you ask. Means it's also on at 100 ready for tomorrows bunnies.
  24. I suppose you have probably done it but I'm careful to check the magnification values I enter. A small change in magnification would account for the drop . Always providing the mag. settings on your scope are spot-on.
