  1. Matty, I tried to send you a message about the delrin but iot said you couldn't recieve any new messages ?
  2. Thanks for the offer, what material is it? Someone else suggested that it might be 'oversprung' with the Titan spring so I had another bright idea . Rather than just shorten the spring I was thinking of collapsing a few coils and fitting it that end into the piston with the theory that not only would it reduce the spring power (it's just about fully compressed at the moment) but would also add a piston weight i.e, the collapsed mass of the coils. Anyone ever tried this and is it feasable?
  3. I'm a blacksmith and certaimly couldn't make them for £11 (inc. postage)!
  4. I wonder how well the disks off disk harrows would stand up? Plenty about and really tough steel. You could stack and weld a few together if needed + they are dished so would help with ricochets.
  5. Larry - if it's the same as a HW99S rear sight I have one, taken off as new rifle.
  6. No one will fill it for you without the correct and in date safety certificate.
  7. PS. You should be able to straighten the bent housing with a bit of fiddling, judicious tapping with a light hammer mightwork.
  8. Is it the front trigger screw that won't hold? If so it might be that the beartrap locking nut is missing, it screws into the action underneath and i think the front screw goes into it. Part# B1332 on Chambers web site (but it's not listed for sale! ). They also list new trigger housing but are out of stock.
  9. Matty - calibre .177. New breach seal. The original spring with about 6mm washers brought it up to about 10 ftlbs. so the idea of shortening the Titan and adding preload might work. I think the spring is not far off fully compressed just now. I'll have to get a new spring guide as I've thinned mine down to fit inside the Titan spring ! Anyone know where I can get short lengths of Delrin bar stock, I might be able to turn myself some guides and top hats.
  10. I just pushed a cardboard tube about 6" long onto my TriStar, bit wider than a bog roll tube. Worked fine and doesn't seem to affect the beam.
  11. My new HW99S was underpowered from the start so I polished and re-lubed the internals still only getting about 9ftlbs. I ordered a Titan #1 spring (their recommendation for the 99) but it was too wide to fit in the piston with a sleeve in place. Original spring 20mm O/D, Titan #1 21mm O/D. I did try thinning the Titan down a bit but it wasn’t successful. So I looked through Titan’s list and ordered a #7 , 19.5mm O/D with wire 0.05 thicker than the #1, slightly less I/D. Fitted it today (without any cutting). It took a fair bit of effort to cock and fired with a bit of a jump – however it o
  12. I'm using V-max and copper jacketed soft nose Remmingtons so no lead in contact with barrel. By 'cleaning' do you mean a quick pull-through or a good scrub with barrel cleaner? Or something in between?
  13. Simple answer - changing zoom should not change POI. Go to Hawke Scopes web site and download thier free balistic program. Put in the details then check at different magnifications what the readings are on your reticule. That should give you a good idea of what to expect.
  14. What is the best barrel cleaning regime for a .22 Hornet? It's a new calibre to me.
  15. Does anyone know of a supplier of Prvi Partisan ammo in the North West?
  16. PS. It's still a pretty good scope though.
  17. Walshie - thanks for that link, most illuminating ! Geordieh - it's a bummer, I gave £150 thinking it was genuine.
  18. Had a session out last night after rabbits. Took the .22lr's and my new Hornet, didn't really need the Hornet but I was desperate to try it ( and a fox might have popped up ). Well - if you use a .22 Hornet on rabbits there's not much need to cut the head off when dressing them ! But bloody hell ! It does make a bang at 2.30am in a quiet valley !
  19. Just how much difference does it make shooting off the level? Where I zero my rifles before a trip out, at 100 yards, the target is on a banking about 15 - 20 feet higher than where I'm shooting from. Yesterday I zeroed my Hornet and set off, first two head shots on rabbits at about 95 yards were complete misses (level ground) ! Stuck a target out and found I was a good inch too high, this has happened before with my hmr. Would this slight elevation make that much difference?
  20. As a starter gun I would advise you to go for a .22lr. It's more versatile than the hmr, very cheap to practice with, subsonic ammo is virtually silent and is easiy effective on rabbits at 100 yards. Downside is that it is prone to ricochets. You can squeeze more distance from a hmr up to a point.
  21. I have a recently aquired scope marked "Leupold". Anyone know of how to tell if it's genuine or a copy ?

  23. Long range shooting is a definite science and good luck to those who enjoy it. I'm more into wandering round the fields, checking out nature as I go and being able to confidently hit live quarry when I need to. Having said that, if i have a rabbit clearance to do, particularly with .22 subs or the air rifle, I'll go and pop out a few range markers first so I'm confident of my aim points. That's after I've checked mil dots at various magnifications.
