  1. I find it difficult scanning through the scope with my laser light, gives me a headache swinging it around, so last night I took my Pitch Black night vision unit and used it hand held (it won't fit on the hmr anyhow). Spotted the rabbits and set it down on a sandbag, roughly lined up the rifle and flicked on the laser - magic ! Worked a treat. Mind you, some of the bunnies don't like that green light and beat a retreat.
  2. My Bushnell Banner Dusk & Dawn is very good in low light, thar's what it's designed for. 3-9X50. It's for sale - immaculate condition £100.
  3. There is a lot of testing and practice to be done, don't forget that the distance between mil dots alters as you increase/ decrease magnification as well. Stick to one setting to start with + write all your results down !!
  4. Yeah, the HW80 is at about 11.3 ftlbs.
  5. Is the seal as old as the spring? A new one is about a tenner.
  6. I need two new springs, one for a HW80 and one for a HW99S. The 99S came out of the box underpowered, I bought a Titan # 2 for it but the outside diameter was too latge to slide in with the piston sleeve I had fitted although the firm listed it for the 99S. The has been rebuilt with the old OX spring it came with, it's well up to power but has quite a recoil. I was hoping a new, regular spring and Delrin guides might fix that. Lots of different springs advertised inc. E-bay - any recomendations of decent types?
  7. Matty - as promiised, a few pics of my setup.
  8. Does the piston move smoothly in the chamber? I've just done my HW80 and the piston took quite a bit of force to move. Fitted a new seal and have to trim it down a little to get it to slide. The rifle already had an OX spring fitted so i replaced it until I get a new, smoother one. The rifle was doing 9 ftlbs before and 11.5 after. Fitted a new breach seal as well.
  9. I don;t know if you are interested but I have a Bushnell Banner Dusk & Dawn 3-9x50 for sale. Immaculate condition and little used. I'm only selling it because I fitted an illuminated reticule scope to my hmr. It cost £169 and I'll take £120 (or near offer ).
  10. Calculation - speed (fps) x fps x pellet weight divided by 450240 = ft/lbs.
  11. I'll pop up some pics of my bits and pieces, it's great fun tinkering but quite a learning curve, so many variables. Alter one thing and it affects something else, alter two and you don't know which (or both) made the improvement - or not! Luckily my workshop is in open countyside so I can try them out of the door.
  12. Watch out for golfers on a Sunday !! Any how it's going to lash it down so they will be a bit thin on the ground.
  13. Shropshire dan - emphasis is on the ' still day'. The hmr is shortly on it's way to be replaced with a .22 Hornet for that very reason. Up in the hills here and mostly a good breeze at least.
  14. thursdog - bought a new front adjuster screw for the trigger (it was missing) and now have the trigger just about perfect. Fitted a new piston and breech seal, had to shave down the piston seal to get it to slide but it seems fine. Put the OX spring back in to try it and it's shooting OK, quite a bit of recoil but that could be the OX spring? Sorted the barrel wiggle with a new barrel bolt and a good tighten, the shims are worn and need replacing ASAP. Popped a few pellets off and got about 1" groups at 20 yards, I expect the recoil is not helping. Now I need to sort out the ra
  15. Hi Paul, your best bet might be to find someone experienced with air rifles and get them to show you the ropes. Don't even consider shooting at animals until you are confident with your aim points on paper targets. A lot of it is common sense, practice, practice, practice ! Lots of videos on YouTube about air gun shooting techniques.
  16. Nope, just tried Winchester and CCI, it didn't like either of those.
  17. Unpredicatble thing - this shooting business. Went out this evening to check the zero on my hmr. I was quite please with the top group but look at that flyer! Had it been a fox it's the difference between a clean head shot or shooting his nose off. Whilst I was at it I tried shooting without the specs I normally wear, using the scope to adjust for my sight, the results were quite surprising, much improved groups without specs. Mind you they had been misting up in the warm weather. Inner bull is 3/4".
  18. Thanks all for the advice. thursdog - I've ordered a new barrel bolt, screws on the old one were pretty chewed up. The shims seem fine, I'll check and make sure the holes in the gun have not become oval before I fit it. I think the washers were missing as well ! Should I find the new piston seal is a bit tight do I just reduce the diameter with some 1200 grit paper?
  19. All-terrain - I called the police because there were lots of people on here complining about this guy bringing shooting into disrepute but no one was doing anything about it. Have a look at some of his earlier vids and you'll see what I mean.
  20. There was a post on here some time ago about a clown called "fengshou yin" on YouTube, shooting dangerously in his yard, including song birds. Multiple vids of scary activity. The idoit even posted a pic of his face and the name of his gun dealer. I called Greater Manchester police and was told it it would be reported to the wildlife officer - heard nothing since !
  21. Or - realy light - a BSA Ultra pcp. You can pick up single shot ones pretty reasonable.
  22. I bought a second hand HW80 (.177) yesterday to play with, it has a number of problems, not least of which is it looks as though a previous owner has removed the screws with a tin opener ! He also hacked the end of the barrel off to remove the sight dovetails so he could glue a moderator on, present owner had managed to get it off but not all the glue. That's not a problen, I can smooth it off and recrown. However the barrel has some lateral play when closed, enough to be able to wiggle it a bit. Can I cure this by adding extra shim washers or is it more drastic? The piston does n
  23. The kids can still use it for plinking at those pressures, I presume it would be safe - maybe someone more into pcp's knows. Then you can get it sorted when you can. My second hand Ultra does over 11ftlbs.
