  1. nice going mate good shooting. that dog fox is massive. look at the size of the neck and shoulders on him
  2. i use the winchester 50grain silver bt ammo and there superb. havent seen one get up yet ! softpoints make more mess on the foxes though
  3. for £500 the conquest has to be in with the top bracket scopes. to be fair there isnt much much in it with s&B and swaro compared to the conquest. they are abit better but £500 pound more better ? just got a 7x50 meopta for £90 so will let you no how it is comepared to my conquest when it gets here. i think this will go on my hmr
  4. any mod on a centrefire is good mate. and got to be better then having it go off with out one. it will save your earing and will improve your accuracy. by the fact your have less recoil
  5. trouble is of walking there is all the kit to carry then there is the fact you couldnt never get round all the ground if you have a big patch to cover. also the 4x4 offers a steady rest and in a way is safer as your not at ground level shooting where on the roof of a 4x4 you are at better angle. also i have found even tho ugh you mite not feel that tired walking your breathing can make your aim off putting
  6. a range finder will work in the dark it dont need the lamp. trouble is you would need a lamp on if you range a fox at a good distance away. best thing to do is range a tree or a bush thats close to the fox. then you have a ruff range how far away he is. only trouble with most rangefinders is the lcd is in black so you cant see. i have the leica and its in red lcd display and shows up a treat. 400 500 yards easy at night rangeing big stuff where foxy is close to
  7. 12 volt 18 amp will be just what you need mate
  8. i would use the tbar lightforce on your 4x4 and your hands are free to shoot off the windown when called in then
  9. I am an avid fan of the .243, but I use it as an allrounder.. Ie fox and deer. (Roe mainly) I cant believe I'm actually saying this, but I would advise getting a bigger rifle than a .243 if you are setting your stall out for soley larger animals. The .243 will kill large deer with good shot placement, but if it were the mainstay of quarry.. Go bigger. It doesn't cost anymore to run a .308, than a .243, That would be my choice. It that is too big for you, my next choice would 6.5 x 55mm. There is a plethora of calibres, but why go exotic when one of the mainstream calibres will do the job pe
  10. ive shoot woodpigeons out the trees with hmr but i was sat up in front of a tree on a big bank and the trees below in the vally had a big back stop between them. BUT I COULD SEE THROUGH THE TREES TO ! SO I NEW THERE WAS NO CHANCE OF HITTING ANYONE OR THE BULLET GOING WHERE IT SHOULDNT. I WOULD NEVER SHOOT UP INTO A TREE THOUGH
  11. when fixing a stud to the front of the pcp air rifle just check the lenght of the stud. and when you drill it in take the action out the stock just in case
  12. if it was me i would go by how much you want to spend. say i had £800 i would go 500 on the rifle and the rest on the scope. of course there is a mod to buy then. glass is one of the most important things in my book. sako's are cracking rifles but cost abit. so the tikka is a good choice and there very accurate to. if it was me and im not just saying it as i have a winchester. but i would have a mod 70 there very underated there actions are soild and bolt works lovely. trigger easy to adjust or replace. and make a good action for a semi custom gun so what i have been reading on the u
  13. what about getting the 22/250 rebarreled in 243 ? you could have it semi custom then. set it up for lighter bullets. and if you got target turrets mark it down. then go zero for heavy bullets mark that down. once you have done that you no how many clicks to do on the scope for each bullet. as long as you use the same brands or homeloads each time
  14. keep a eye out in the sales section mate. the bbs sometimes have a fair amount of 22lr's for sale. just wait something will come up. i wouldnt get one from your shop at that price
  15. workhorse like build, cracking accuracy and good service from them as a company to. a winner mate
  16. each rifle is different so try some different ammo. good one i would start with though is federal 55 grain softpoints. as for the scope i would go for a zeiss conquest. you wont beat it for day and night shooting for £500 i have one and its superb. number 4 crosshair so its got thick lines at 9,3 and 6 o'clock and thin line at 12 o'clock. locks on to targets more easy that way. and stunning under the lamp. i have a mtc scope thats fine on rimfire and ive shot foxes with it on centrefire to 200 yards. but when i got the zeiss on my 22/250 i could see the foxes in the lamp at 300+ yards
  17. a good bt for fox and a softpoint for deer would be good i bet
  18. Thanks Charlie. Coldweld - this is the sort of post I am after, constructive, useful information. You want to argue that I said the 243 would do everything in the world, yeah whatever. It remains a capable calibre for target and long range fox and is my choice for this role still. I merely used the then-recent chap who won a 1000 yard comp to illustrate that 243 can do the job. You may or may not have noticed I'm changing calibre for a different reason. I'm not arguing grammar, I really can't be arsed. As for wildcats, I couldn't be arsed with them then, and I still can't. They d
