  1. Very envious.........hope you continue to catch plenty ?
  2. Optic Fire would be worth a look. Have tried all sorts in the past but now have a couple of XC50’s for rimmies out rabbiting - probably a bit of an overkill for what you’re wanting but there are other models. https://opticfire.co.uk/collections/opticfire-xc-hunting-torch-kits-lamping-lamps/products/xc-50-deluxe-led-hunting-torch-kit Would. Happily recommend
  3. Sorry.........have pinched loads of jokes from this site & thought I’d return something to the board............promise not to in future unless its really funny!
  4. A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away." The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?" "Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the vet.. "How can you be so sure?" she protested.. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something." The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He
  5. Would have to disagree (in the Suffolk area at least). Last year even with the ‘Beast from the East’, we were inundated with wasps, they caused havoc within the beekeeping fraternity. One would expect that a lot of queens were produced so even with a ‘normal winter’ one would expect a reasonable survival rate of over wintered queens - hopefully I’m wrong. Don’t get me wrong as a healthy wasp population is good - but everything in balance.
  6. VHD - viral haemorrhagic disease believed to be the cause. Massive demise of rabbits over the last 6ish years to the extent that some area’s appear to have none at all! Still pockets around us but no longer the numbers that you used to hear of.
  7. Gorgeous morning, looking really good................nets out and waiting........... Pushed out young ones so small they legged it through the nets but no adults? I’ll profess to being an amateur but that surprised me no adults at home (or ferrets couldn’t find.....) Anyway a cracking couple of hours out which may tempt me out for one more try a little later in the week.
  8. That is a real bitch about the Fenn trap! Glad you had an enjoyable last outing - I’m out today for the only outing of the year, same as most too many things on the list of things to do! Global warming may be nice for sun on the back but it has messed with ferreting weather. Hopefully it will help with rabbit numbers though - still very low in the Suffolk area.
  9. Shit.......what a crock of crap.........as a Navara owner you have my sympathies for your troubles. Glad it's sorted at long last!
  10. With the weather changing to colder they'll have all died off in a few weeks so I wouldn't worry too much. The existing queen should have died / will die shortly so no further larva, new queens will have been produced which will hibernate over winter somewhere else and your colony as already said will just disappear. Quite sad really, our European hornets munch quite a few pests & aren't too aggressive - just be ready for the shitty tempered Asians that are in Europe to jump across the channel, then we'll have a problem
  11. To much for me.........glad I'm in the crapper
  12. Don't want to worry you walshie but a couple of us are having the same issues with winchesters. Switched to 42's a while ago, very pleased with, seemed to drop stuff better however, things have gone down the pan now Ejection issues as you've mentioned plus accuracy issues also! Have stripped the bolt down a couple of times & even cleaned the barrel - haven't given it much thought just cursed to date. Looking at this thread though maybe there are some more general issues with production - don't most of these 22 rounds come from the same place?
  13. Zac on rabbits if you fit a doubler the FOV is very narrow, ok for foxing 100yds and onwards. Thats why leaving it at 6.5x is probably better to get on target, even if the image isn't as good. With the ward you can go from 3x mag find it and then wind the mag upto 16x if you want and take the shot. Having high mags gives better image quality but it becomes a nightmare for finding things, even when using a spotter, etc Thanks for the feedback IanB, as for the OP - go spend some pennies, I don't think you'll regret it. Happy shooting ?
  14. Have recently fitted one to an HMR - 2nd what IanB has said regarding the photon. Needed to pack the mount to zero as ran out of adjustment but no real problem with this. Would benefit from some more magnification on longer range bunnies & on the new scopes I believe you cannot fit the doublers which is a shame. Have fitted a Deben IR torch to the unit which was a worthwhile improvement - a luxury not a necessity. Overall very pleased with it.
  15. Actually smaller than our native European hornet - not to mistaken with the "Giant Asian Hornet". Arrived in Tetbury, Gloucestershire a couple of months ago. The nest was destroyed so hopefully no queens had developed/left to hibernate over winter. Sorry Neil, missed the fact that your in Ireland. Interesting/worrying to see they had burrowed into the wall behind.
  16. Excellent write up, good to hear & hope for many more successful outings?
  17. Two (at least) fungi look like this, One is delicious to eat.......the other is not for eating. Testing my memory but believe this indicates a problem with the tree, not a good sign. A bit of research is needed
  18. Looks almost like there's some lacing on his breast feathers? Not the best photo but here's one of our CLB boys. Very little gold barring as we like the neck plumage to be white as opposed to gold
  19. Go visit your local beekeeping association - hopefully it won't be full of little hitlers but will be full of people giving good advice freely. If anything like our local association there will be an apiary where you can get some hands on experience - you may change your mind about a TBH. Good luck with your venture anyway.
  20. You on the mead HP? lbs & kgs mixed up?
  21. Only time I've heard of using a Q/x under a brood is when hiving a swarm, then moved after a couple of days.
  22. Load of rollicks! Have seen this on a beekeeping forum, the actual product isn't yet available - their fund raising through another website, can't remember which. Basically you give them money to get production up & running and they then allow you to buy product (when made) at a discounted price - how kind. Anyone who keeps bees must know the delights of crystallised honey in the frames - please explain what this is going to do to my newly purchased bit of well marketed un-nescessary high tech trash. Think that sums up my feelings nicely
  23. Recommend Andy Kelly on here, worth searching out. Have bought from twice.
  24. Stalking the now rare elusive tit in the Sun
