  1. f**k it, I'm gonna add to the confusion after a dogs worked hard, is it ok to let it drink cold water or is it best heated. I know horses can't take cold water after hard running and what about puddles, do you let them drink out of puddles, especially they ones near farmer gates, serious answers only please where the fook are you going to find hot water at stupid o'clock in the morning in the middle of nowhere , dogs will drink wherever they find water when out and about very difficult if not impossible to stop them, yes it can be worrying, i once walked through a field in the dark an
  2. so whats you position on supplements and what do you use and why? always best to get a good spectrum of ages
  3. read somewhere that unless its purified or liquified its passes through with little being absorbed like us and sweetcorn
  4. i have a heat lamp over the bed board thats deeply filled with shredded waxed paper, i only use it when the dogs are cold and wet or the temperature is very, very cold, it helps if you can keep two together but you really need to be sure they are compatible
  5. written by a soldier T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE, MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE. I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY, WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AND TO SEE JUST WHO, IN THIS HOME, DID LIVE. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE. NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES, OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT, CAME THROUGH MY MIND. FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COU
  6. feed it some race horse it will go like redrum
  7. so electrolytes are a mixture of water, glucose.potassium and salts, giving it before i sort of understand as at worse it will do no harm but to add something that is part of the reason afterwards im sorry i just cannot get my head around, glucose and water are missing i agree but sodium and potassium are already causing a problem so why add more i have had experience from EIC to full blown rhabdomyolysis over the years and have researched the subject quite a bit and still can not find a good scientific reason to add anything other than a good diet and to keep the dog as fit as possible coup
  8. cramping, acidosis, rhabdomyolysis exercise induced collapse are all a result of heat resulting in potassium etc leaching from the muscles into the bloodstream if the levels of these leaks are too great then the kidneys struggle to filter them out, if the heat, exercise continues past a certain point then the muscles will break themselves down completely in an attempt to convert them to the sugar the body needs to continue running, the first action if any of these situations occurs is to cool the dog as fast as possible, ideally by immersion in water, after an episode the dog will have an enhanc

if you have a spare hour or two to take them off or else a handy tow bar
  10. i have seen evidence of this. lucozade sport sponsors loads of things if it does nothing else it certainly supplements a few sportsmans earnings, a fit dog will handle the workload without supplements if you're pushing a dog to far then eventually it will break no matter what you putting into it. even machines break when not looked after correctly, unless there is a deficiency and you understand why that deficiency is occurring then why feed anything other than what should naturally give the dog what it needs,
  11. i will make this simple, play nice or the ability to play at all will be removed, if you feel the need to say something personal then use the pm facility, phone etc as the rest of the site are not privy or interested in your squabbles
  12. as i said a healthy diet, in my book dried meat flavoured kibble advertised as x% protein is not a healthy diet if fed on its own less so when that protein is mainly vegetable based, its just a cheap to feed a dog correctly as it is to feed it easily. diet and exercise are the key to a healthy dog, it really is that simple, electrolytes are a difficult subject as you're trying to fix a problem after it has occurred. again the key would be to not let the dog get into a position where that problem arrises but thats far easier to say then do, i am a beliver in a spoon of honey a day though if tha
  13. i have bluetooth in the car and the mrs for when i am in home
  14. that old you have loads of posts so dont do a lot, sausage sorry but i can log on here from a pigeon hide/roost shoot/whilst lamping ferreting infact anywhere in any situation, but in truth my post count equates to around 7 per day, plus a good few of these are made in my role as a moderator and not for my own enjoyment, i too gave a genuine answer but it would seem because you disagree its not as genuine as yours!!!, however my dogs are fit and well even though they range from 6 to 15 infact i'm out shooting with a member later and using an eleven year old lurcher to pick up find and flush
  15. to me that ??? mark would be, is/was the dog fit enough in the first place, if yes, then is there an injury condition that i have missed, or did i just push the dog too far by not seeing it had reached that point before that last slip,

  17. Well done to all, in these times a united front is required more than ever, These shows are the shop window of field sports and that window dressing needs to shine in order to impress and educate so as to ensure it continues into the future,
  18. what came first the chicken or the egg, if you feel the need to add something then ask yourself the question how has it lost what you're adding?? unless there is a condition causing the deficiency then again why add anything, a lot is mixed up/crossed over from humans and we don't work quite the same, sweating in a human causes salt loss as dogs don't sweat is adding salt a good idea, when a dogs muscles are used to extremes then potassium is leached from the cells again is adding more a good thing? a little knowledge and all that, fitness.a balanced diet coupled with good stockmanship will n

  20. would have had to have been 2 as he saw 4 props or perhaps he was seeing double
  21. if gameness is only found in bulls then surely only physical differences would make a winner or loser but that is as we both know is not true so whatever it is all dogs don't posses it and if thats the case then it can not be restricted to a single breed but rather as you say a trait in particular individuals
