i remember les white articles also, they were the good days of the shooting news, when i would read the paper cover to cover twice or so soaking up what was on offer, now its a shadow of its former self and the only things its good for soaking up is piss if your house training a puppy Who edited the quoted part out????? Fat Bill's powers and persuausion run deep

It can be painful learning by yourself, sounds like you had fun.....personally i would recommend heavier duty nylon nets ( i use 10z) or spun nylon, and also practise despatching in the net, if you shake the rabbit in the net whilst holding it round the waist , its head should drop out through the net allowing you to despatch it easier, but i dont want this to get into a debate about nets and such, good going, i used to ferret a pick your own strawberry field and caught lots and lots of rabbits from a small hedge and bit of woodland that surrounded the field

not to sound funny but do you know anything about ferrets????? no matter if there seperated the jills still come into season and still need bringing out.and if you dont wants litters then a snipped hob dose it Bully i thought similar

The below thread prompted this poll! http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=30799 I use a hoblet and have found that if you use a vet that KNOWS what he is doing this is a simple and succesful procedure, but you must check they understand ferrets, have done the op before and they understand why you want the op doing etc...
-
sorry not the correct spelling a slip of the pen so to speak also, BOLLOCKS , there much better I know lots of ferreters, i mean lots, and the vast majority use hoblets, (vasectomised hobs) Regarding 70 or 75% of vasectomy's reversing themselves To quote Homer Simpson "you can get statistics to say whatever you want, 85% of people know that"

If they are proceeding with the Offensive weapon offence (carrying a knife etc..without lawful authority or reasonable excuse-ferreting/hunting etc is reasonable excuse) then the likely hood is that he will be getting punished the same as if he was done with the threatening behaviour (public order offence) for threatening you. The sentence at youth court would be the same, and if he is denying it then he cant be cautioned, so he will be off to court. My advice is leave it, the copper sounded like he was trying to do you a favour, save himself some paper work and still do something to the la

thats bollox (excuse the pun) where did you get the figure 75% of vasectomy's reverse themselves??? jill's shouldn't be jabbed ever year, there are side effects with that
-
Higgins the reason mine are all together is that i dont believe in leaving the jills in season for health reasons, so i had my hob vasectomised so he could stay with the jills and when they come into season he takes them out, he stays happy and they stay healthy and well Compo I have spare hutches for ill ferrets etc..

I think perhaps you used too much shavings, or it was low grade shavings with lots of sawdust inside it. I only use shavings to cover the corner where they go to the toilet, i dont use shavings on the floor etc...just where they go to the toilet, this way it saves on the shavings and also doesn't cause such problems with the ferts inhaling the dust In the bed box its shredded newspapers

Thats actually a very valid point ensuring that the vet understands what you want and why you want it, try and find a ferret friendly and knowledgeable vet, preferably one who has done the op before.

Get your glasses on and read my thread again.. .. as i stated i like a bit of shooting and i have no problem's at all about folk who shoot.. but for the life of me i can not see the reason for shooting to top the bill let alone 7 pages worth of it.. Anyway it's not a problem for me now as ive removed the full lot of the shooting section from my comp now so i dont have to scroll through it all to get to the dog/ferret/bird related topic's.. .. Millet I read it and wasn't having a pop at you, or anyone. I was trying to instill a bit of humour and find out what percentages on here

some lurchers always look undernourished, especially ones with either whippet or saluki ancestors
-
I have never owned a whippet, i have owned a whippet x greyhound and other lurchers, i now own two dogs a teckel x and a cocker spaniel bitch.. In my opinion cockers are too thick set to be a good outcross for a lurcher, and the coat and ears are too long, mine has come ferreting with me and is a reasonable marker and a good dog for pushing rabbits from cover and long grass, she has even accounted for a rabbit that threw the net, she ran at it and forced it to get backnetted on its way back below ground there are pics of her on my website (IN MY SIGNATURE BELOW) when ferreting but

best fox and deer dog i have ever seen was a saluki x greyhound (actually 3/8 saluki and 5/8 greyhound - a reverse 3/4 saluki / 1/4 greyhound sire over a pure greyhound bitch) my brother owned this saluki cross, this was before the ban in the uk, an uncle of mine has had several grey x deerhounds, one was the biggest running dogs i have ever seen and was massive i cant remember his height but he used to retrieve foxes even jumping gates back to you with the fox in his mouth, he also had a deerhound/grey bitch, and both of these dogs brought down the bigger game Any way on a direct c

A lad i used to know once got butted up the arse by a bovine with horns, he nearly had a new arsehole, in fact the doc said that another few inches accross and it would have been straight up the arsehole he already had, that was lamping at night Growing up on a farm i have also had a few near misses, the worst was at a cattle market when i nearly got squashed to death, also been flattened by sheep when trying to herd them into a trailler, it wasn't the sheep running over me that hurt, but the fact i was face down in a pile of nettles I was black and blue and red all over (i know

Vasectomy is a small operation compared to speying which is very intrusive and has a higher risk factor. Get the hob vasectomised and made a hoblet, in my opinion its the cheapest, easiest and most natural way to bring the jills out . Also it keeps your jills entire so that when you need a few extra ferrets you can breed from your best jill using someone elses hob!!

AT THE MINUTE MILLET CANT MOAN, THERE ARE A COLLECTIVE 14 VOTES FOR FERRETING,TERRIERS AND LURCHERS AND ONLY 7 FOR SHOOTING!!
-
Thats fine i was just after your MAIN sport. As i said i am a ferreter (first and foremost) but have followed hounds, used to own lurchers, have done a bit of terrier work and own a few shotguns, but i chose ferreting

I am a ferreter who does a bit of shooting, my main sport is ferreting This was prompted by Millets moan about fat gay shooters!

Yes thats true, you can get a vet to do them if you can prove they will be working dogs, usually they want to see a SGC or such, they then issue you with paper work
