  1. we have a cocker, not working bred but she gets stuck in, she flushes well to the gun and marks when i am ferreting, stock steady and good with the kids, KerryB she doesn't tend to catch in undergrowth like terriers do, but not through lack of trying
  2. i was on nights last night so sadly have slept most of today, a workmate (her boyfriend is also a Yorkshireman) reminded me that today is national Yorkshire day! So what have all my fellow tykes been doing today? anyone celebrated in a special way? Will be having a drink soon when the kids are in bed
  3. Some good and some not so good advice, call the police and report it, your phone number will be then recorded on the phone handling system that the local police use, then if you dial 999 again and dont get chance to speak, they will know who you are and where you are from the last time you rang! And as has been said, burglars etc..often plan ahead and they may be storing the bricks for a reason later, one burglar i heard of used to smash a window and then leg it, he would come back the next day and remove either the temporary boarding up or take the putty out of the new window and climb i

    Dachshund

the original continental name was teckel, top right of the forum use the search engine and you will find, i have a 1st cross, there are lots of others who use them for everything from tracking wounded deer, to bushing rabbits
  6. All land belongs to someone fact, caught catching rabbits and it could result in the police being called and you arrested for poaching! It could also result in you being thrown off/out under the trespass laws! The difference is usually your attitude when/if you get caught, "yeah and what are you going to do about it" results in option 1, "sorry mate i didn't know who to ask and am just catching a few rabbits, i am very sorry, i will go now" will more than likely result in option 2. However regardless of your opinion about "bunny huggers", i would write and ask you may be
  7. Good luck with the surgery, at least you have a spine to operate on unlike some on here! And a valid point about borders not having gbecmoe two seperate breeds under KC registration, however i have seen some bred purely as pets that a bit too big, perhaps the trend has started towards KC and KC - Working lines? My brother has a Border, and although not an earth dog, i reckon she would be more than capable and at 18months has slayed a fair few rats, she is a nice shape/size and is a top terrier for him, but as i say i have seen some in London Parks that looked about 16-18inches tall
  8. Just read this thread all the way through, and besides being a decent athlete, a true tough guy, Kye seems to be a real honest and kind genuine bloke, please dont lose that and keep us updated on your career!! (i may be wrong and he may be a twat-but he comes accross as decent and interested in others on here! )

    hedgehogs

as above, after reading the threads on the ferreting forum on M OOCHERS about getting ready for the forthcoming ferreting season and one lad who has been out doing a bit of ferreting, i have got the last bits of my gear ready, fixed the dial on my locator and have been to cut some more hazel wands for the longnet. whilst cutting the wands with my lad, my little teckel x border got through a fence that surrounds a local school playground and has a border of wood around it, she starts kicking up a hell of a fuss, i think whats she got there. she is silent with rats and doesn't make that nois

    Speed cameras

There are camera's that take pictures from the front and also some that take pics from the back, the ones that take the pic from the front are so you cant deny being the driver the others the registered keeper has to state who was driving, either way you should have a notice of intended prosecution (NIP) within 2 weeks, and the opportunity to view the picture (primary disclosure-where the prosecuting authority have to show you what they have on you) after the NIP you can either send your licence and the cheque or contest it and go to court. Speed camera's are pretty much a done deal and y
  11. i read it a while ago, when it wasn't quiet so old, the author is an Old Labour man Roy Hattersley, he is an out and out anti He is also the bloke who owned a Staff bull terrier that killed a goose in St James Park , the same dog was prone to having a go at other dogs as well, so the bloke obviously knows a lot about animals
  12. this was also on their website http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...in_page_id=1770 Big fecking dog.

    saturday

Went out on Saturday with the kids, wife and my mam, went to an open farm/animal attraction place and in the barn they had hatched some chicks, there was a box underneath the incubator, i thought it was funny, the future for the chicks??
  14. The countrymaids weekly did used to be called the shooting news and very very rarely had any mention of guns or shooting i buy the sporting gun, it has a few ferreting and terrier articles , i also occasionally buy the shooting times, which also runs ferreting, terrier and hunting articles on occasions, or there is the earth dog running dog mag by subscription which is terriers&lurchers only. Or if you are into collectING old shotgun cartridges the CMW
  15. £1.25 per bunny i get and they can take all i catch (in fact when i stopped ferreting this spring they put an advert in the local paper trying to get more ) i catch a lot lot more than i could ever eat or use as food for the ferts and dogs, the ferts subsidise my beer fund
  16. Oh yeah it covers all types of hunting i forgot its in-undated with hound articles, proper terrier work, and decent advice on shooting etc.....it aint it has a few bland ferreting articles, a load of bollox about terriers hunting rabbits and an occasional article about collecting old shotgun cartridges, truly an all round read
  17. I would pick the second dog Sadly there are people who get hunting dogs and then lose interest and want to swap it for a PS3 too many dogs are bred and too many idiots buy them on a whim, feck about and fail the dog and then pass it on, sadly i dont think we will change anything , what worries me is how fashions with dogs change and folk want to keep up with the latest must have and get shut of there mutt to get the latest trend, i remember these trends with saluki crosses and now it seems to be bull crosses

    A Rude Awakening

cheered me up on a night duty She didn't do it on purpose, and i am sure she didn't mean to cause such strife, she was just being a dog, but it would piss me off, there is only one bird at a time in my bed
  20. i ordered my decoys from tidepool and he provides excellent service, the floating pigeon is very good and he did me a deal on the postage I will be using my decoys on Thursday on some new shooting permission, i visited several farms months ago and drew a blank regarding shooting, this old boy stated he would keep my details and as good as his word he has a problem with the pigeons and crows and got his wife to ring me and invite me down

  22. wise words, dont carry a spade or a smoker, but a walking stick can be useful for opening holes and has a genuine and reasonable use for walking with dont look like your off ratting just for a walk and well if the dog kills a few rats fair enough, my little dog has killed a few rats and also a fair few rabbits in hedges, however on every occasion i have been just out for a walk or a run and the dog was just with me
