  1. Nuts or no nuts they will still chase rabbits. two castrated hobs will live in peace together forever, if you did plan on getting jills in the future then have one vasectomised, they should be ok living together as the castrated hob wont be any threat to the other. But why bother getting any jill's a lot of folk use hobs, several pro ferreters (ed cook -sporting gun columnist and our own woodga) use entire hob ferrets.
  2. Good to see that people appreciate a good ferret, they are under valued by some folk (most folk) i have one of those ferrets of a lifetime at the minute an albino jill called Snowball that i took in after she was found in the local supermarket car park ( i think gypsies lost her on the roundabout there which is riddled with rabbits  ) half tail sounds in a similar vein to my snowball who has bolted over 20 rabbits in a day and several rats from under sheds etc..she never lays up and really is dependable I am sure that your pet ferret wont let you down, she may need more time than
  3. this is funny as feck, you could use the Handcock book as bog paper , however it is already full of shite, so perhaps that signed roll from snoopdog would be better!!
  4. when you look at the picture the kid isn't leaning on the pig, he is sat with his arms folded well behind the pig, and the angle of the photo makes the lad look like he is leant on it, as pBurns said "forced perspective" , and as regards canned hunts this is a problem with a certain section of American hunters the hunting and shooting organisations in the states should do something to make this illegal/morally un-acceptable and force this practice to end
  5. Welcome from a yorkshireman living down south also sadly i live Bucks too far to take you ferreting, hobs can be useful for ferreting, but i prefer jill's but then again i get on with females of any species better than the males  good choice of name "Artemis" = the greek goddess of hunting and animals- the name used for the goddess that the romans called Diana (just for those who didn't know- i only know this cos my lad did about greek temples for his homewaork and we made a greek temple dedicated to Artemis as his homework, (well he went to bed and me and the wife finishe

and so is my wife!!! has anyone got any copies of woodga's dvd going cheap??
  9. I keep my nets in the wardrobe, wouldn't want anyone nicking them from the shed its just a bit of a walk in the morning to get my clothes from the shed nice shed by the way chalkie I use 10z nets and swear by them, i have been using them now for a few years, i bought mine from K,P&S nets, when i got mine not many others were using them, i value them above any other type of net, i prefer nylon as i dont always have time to dry the nets out, i cant afford spun nylon nets, and cant bear 4z shite nets, they are the best compromise in my opinion, there are pics of them in use
  10. Below is the section of the road traffic act that defines in law what animals you must report to police if you run over, so the owners can sue you for cost's of vetinary treatment etc.. 170.—(1) This section applies in a case where, owing to the presence of a motor vehicle on a road, an accident occurs by which— (a) personal injury is caused to a person other than the driver of that motor vehicle, or ( damage is caused— (i) to a vehicle other than that motor vehicle or a trailer drawn by that motor vehicle, or (ii) to an animal other than an animal in or on that motor vehicle
  11. just thought i would start this off again, i am right, here's the proof! cut this from the below link "Legal status of cats: At present cats have no legal status in law (they are deemed to be wild animals) and so people are not legally obliged to report any incident involving a cat (as they would if it were a dog). Similarly a stray cay can be put down without efforts having been made to find the owner, unlike the situation for dogs. Policyholders believe that a change in the law is merited to equalise the status of cats and dogs." http://www.dianawallismep.org.uk/news/000

    MID LIFE CRISES

mid life crisis, now when does that start, is it at that awkward age between birth and death,
  13. Saw the same once when beating on a shoot, me and a mate were steadily going through the cover a belting cock bird took off and went straight up about 20 yards, hit a branch and was dead by the time it hit the floor suffice to say me and my mate fought over that bird as we knew it wouldn't have any lead
  14. I know scotland has slightly different laws to England and wales, but i think this is the same. A cat is not owned it is a wild animal (regardless of what anyone thinks the law considers them wild-in the road traffic act you dont have to report a car accident with a cat, unlike a dog or livestock) and as a wild animal belongs to no one but becomes the property of the landowner when dead.....work that out for yourself no one owns it until you shoot it dead on your land, then its corpse is yours to do with as you please thats why the "owners" are not liable for any animals/stock it ki
  15. If you want a small pack i would be tempted to keep a couple of the bitch pups, if the mother is decent (or showing promise , i realise she is very young) and you were going to get another hound anyway, why not keep one of the pups? i know you dont know what the father is etc...but they will be half harrier either way , keep the most houndy looking one's, if the father is a beagle, they will/should be decent sized little hounds and capable of working whatever? if the father is not the beagle they will still be half hound! She looks like the kind of hound i like, i like the heavil
  16. will do...but he's a she........presuambly she'll be a tad smaller on that basis there is a formula for estimating a childs height which is add the parents heights together share by two, then add 2 inch for boys and take 2 inch off for girls, this means my 8 year old son will be 6'04" and my daughter will be 6'....i dont know whether this works for dogs she looks to have stocky legs and they usually grow to fill their legs, if the sire was taller than the dam i would reckon an inch or so taller than the dam!?
  17. class, but not what us mere students of fat based spreads would have expected........thank you for the scientific input Professor Ditch........and i really am theorising about how long this experiment will run before the spreads run off the window
