  1. I dont come on here often enough to know WTF frank is on about......however he is a genuine lad and knows what he is on about .......and to all the young doubters...the older you are the more you have seen and done simple really (thats a generalisation and i appreciate you get people starting out in their 40's etc...and kids who have been hunting since they were 4.....but as a rule age= experience and frank has that, of both life and fieldsports) sorry to see you leave Frank, i have felt like that before on a forum and just decided to sit back and leave it to others for a while, things quieten
  2. sound advice above, just to add i ferret twice a week from august to march and my land consists of a livery stables, a farm owned for a ladies horses , a goat farm, a large garden on a country house, and a small sheep farm (although he no longer owns any sheep and just rents the grazing) and a couple of fields around a builders yard (i also have shooting rights on 3 of those above) my ferreting partner has permission on an allotment area and a private school grounds....as you can see i dont spend long on farms or with farmers but have lots of land to keep me going, and my average catch

  5. Dont get a show bred daschund....you might as well get a dalmation Get a Teckel (thats the original continental name- it was badly translated to daschund by victorian dog breeders) working bred, they are used for tracking wounded game (deers etc..) used in small packs on rabbits and also used underground like terriers, i know in parts of france they are used to drive wild boar out i have a teckel x border terrier, (all she got from the border was slightly longer legs) she works cover, is used when i go shooting and ferreting and has gone to ground (not that i wanted her to when she did
  6. i only started pigeon decoying this year, the wife bought me 12 shells and 4 full bodied for my birthday, it is worth doing and before the shells arrived i was having success with just the 4 full bodied decoys, best day so far was 7 pigeons, 3 crows and 4 jackdaws and i was only out a morning.....like anything its practice that makes perfect, i have half an idea now regarding where to put teh decoys and flightlines etc...but its good to do when i cant go ferreting during the spring/summer
  7. Hemp works well......but....requires care and attention Thats why i use heavy duty nylon i have had the pegs go mouldy and break due to damp but the nets are still in good nick, that wouldn't happen with hemp the nets would go before the pegs, i do need to empty my net bags and let the nets hang out next close season However if you take care of them i have heard of people having years of use out of them, personally though 10z nylon

  11. If foxes are a problem, they are usually preying on someones chickens or pet rabbits etc... lay in hiding in between where you reckon they live/hide and where the food supply is, and shoot them on the way to the chickens at either dusk or dawn

  18. my hob ferret developed very similar last year and the vet charged me £79 to drain it to see him twice and for 2 weeks of antibiotics i know that was cheap. However the abcess has since filled up several times, i am diabetic and use very fine lancets for testing my blood sugar, they are small very sharp sterile pins, whenever his abcess fills up now i pop it and squeeze it empty. Do you know anyone local who is also diabetic, or ask to buy some lancets for blood testing at the chemist, you screw the plastic head off the lancet revealing a needle/PIN , pop the abcess and then put t

Organisers of the event say that the Arrows military background might be "offensive" to other countries taking part in the Games. The display team have performed at more than 4000 events worldwide, but the Department of Culture, Media and Sport have deemed the display team "too militaristically British". Red Arrows pilots were sai
