v-max replied to pot shot's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Hello the place you stalk or person taking you should know the ground & bucks on it by May.They should then be able to see what your after & then tell you what is on offer or bits that produce good bucks. I have a bit to whatch as every june/july build up to the rut i get monsters on the rake that i dont see earlyer on or on the odd occations but july etc there regular visitors.Iv had friends up for a stalk & showed them a variety of beasts from young to old & medal class beasts as i know whos what & where with the odd unseen/new face to asses for culling or not. -
info needed, roe stalking, best time to go in scotland??????

The rut can be early to mid july or last week july first week august depends on the mood & there timming that the doe's come into season. Early september can see the faulse rut witch is young bucks going through the motions. To be honest go for 3rd week july you should hit start or finish of rut but you may see deer with no shot's to be had as the rut is full on & cover can be high. May is a great month for Scottish roe as there is big movment on with the big lads being very teritorial. -
Sure Inverness-shire have them that north

Its well known that moly can upset your rifle & its more a match/benchrest thing. Not sure the in's & out's but your rifle gets a taste for it & wont take anything else it's moly all the way for it. People ie rifle smiths etc would tell you better or advise you try phone some ie rifle craft etc.

Hello to be honest this powder is of no use to you with this cal i load a 22.250 have done for 8/9yrs Another thing i found recently is that Fed Match primmers compliment VIt powders best & hogdons powder is CCI primmers this came from a benchrest shooter & tryed tested this & found this as he shoots for compitions to shoot for our SCOTLAND. As for 22.250 N140 is very good & many 22.250 shooters use this if you want loads just ask.

When you looking for wildfowler & how many days?

Moly has its down sides & is a night mare to clean out in a barrel & once you start on it you stick with it.Nosler do the silver tip with a lubebox coating like moly to the same effect but easyer to clean so if you dont like you can change back to normal heads.

Sorry never thought of the price & yes could be expensive you could try magazines like sporting shooter at the back for sporting agents like wildfowler 2007 or try the estate sites.Dont know if there is a web site with estates & there web pages.

Sorry the pipe slide points are cut as you wish ours are 1" or so with stainless links cut & welded on to hang off & found 6 bits of 1" ID (internal dimention) more than enough to hang off.The roe i shoot are big too with bucks near 50lb in weight.
-
Hello yes its all stainless. 1" flat bar & 1" angle with 3/4" solid bar with 6 1" ID pipe over the bar to slide & hang off. we made the bar neat to inside of angle with 1" ID of pipe holding it in place & had to put bar inside & slide up into place & fix. As you can see we tied into 2 holes each leg ie 4 a side & i have had 4 roe unskinned in it at a time & had no probs at all with it yet. We set the bar back 2/3rds for hanging & it works well.

v-max replied to a topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
To my knowledge its 11.5k-15k as a beat/underkeeper + house/bills/heating/phone etc & it can differ on the dog alowance .You get your tips litters of pups etc & places vary on estates wepons & know of a place that provides furnished houses & all the gear gore-tex jackets/boots etc. Headkeeper varys & know of 25k a year & all the perks you can think of. -

Hello & well done Paul for putting your neck out here & as you said we all have our ways on this. I personally like to free the shoulders/sides & to the haunches well up the body to below the saddle & a compressor can be good to assist in this at the very start & i use regular. I also cut the tail on roe when skinning & there is a soft part on the haunch that can tear when skinning too. A flat joint on the legs is easyer & neater to when cutting them off & as stated keep your knife hand clean & use it in a roll action to push skin off. There hairy little bug

Hello went down to perthshire to my mates place to shoot hinds.Weather was a bit west coast stuff "wet" & my shooting let us down as i think me rifle shooting high as i twice skimmed over 2 hinds on head shots but new how high as i saw shot.My 1st shot missed & i was gutted & let the rest go found some more & all lying down 70m away so tryed again & just skimmed over her head but readjusted & got her again in the head & another behind her so i was happy as we needed skinners but the 2nd not so good to skin. .
