Hey foxy she's along way to beat me but she can shoot & my aim is to get her a gold medal roe 1 day.
-
Well done Mark & FD you couldent buy a trip like that & what makes a day for me with a good friend would make it more fun. As you know with roe heads weight is the key but even tho a cracking freak i think you got your 1st gold if it had the mass that we have here as i bet push 500g+.

Iv used travel sickness pills worked well for me.

You dont need alot even tho it sounds alot to take like said. A roesack is great but get pockets on it as it frees space in the pockets of your clothes for movement & the gear is all in 1 place. You only need rifle, ammo, bins, dog etc as knife i carry 2-3 linner i have 2 etc in the sack. I also carry a head torch & some bright orange cord 1" wide to use to mark blood trail etc so its easy to back track & find as i dont always have a dog with me & my best find yet some baby-wipes for hands etc.

Thanks all for your replies & yes im very lucky that way too keeps the spice in life so to say. Hey Dave she can have my rifle if i get a semi custom job i want sounds fair to me.
-
Its all a personal think a semi custom rifle & you would be best try Baldie dont know if still on this site?. I have an H-S precision stock & its great for me on my remmy 700 22.250. I plan to rebarrel & i like krieger barrels & you might want to think on blue-print action when you rebarrel. As for jewell triggers they are in my eyes the best & what i will getting too. As for optics S&B are the best in world to me especially the PM11's model. I see a second hand remmy VS 243 on yorkguns add This comes standard with an H-S stock worth around £275 & the rifle etc £4

It all depends on you type of shooting/stalking as on the Scottish highlands we used to use 8x30 for lightness & a spotting scope to assess the stag. For lowground woodland stalking 7-8 mag perfect x42 or50/56 but a good quality 7/8x42 bins are perfect.

My partner likes to come stalking with me & asked to come out sat night so we dropped off kids & i took her out for her first stalk for a buck this year. We found 3 out in a corner of a field so we got into them at 180m & she took a pair with the 25cal. From this To this for a stalk. her is a buck i shot a few weeks ago.

Try 70m etc then out to 100m & i think you will find it high might be quite a bit 6" or so or 2" but it can varie.

If you have signs of pressure or you are within load date limits & you shoot 5 shots in a 1p penny then i would say it likes it log it ie powder/bullet/primmer/seating depth etc & keep target for reffrence. As said all rifles are diffrent like people & some shoot well with diffrent loads & some bullets take more work. Here is an example i have a friend under my wing with a 243 i had this cal for years but its a diffrent rifle so new to load for & find sweat spot. He had 80g nosler bt so i tryed some old loads i had & no good so i loaded 5 sets of 5 loads from starting t

Cheers dave i have enough on my plate at the moment with pups part time work & family life etc. Im not seeing many cull bucks this year but i have been hard on them foe a while & not that fussed iv shot plenty in my time & clad of a break. I havent even been able to get up to my mates & he's seeing loads just now.
-
That load is top end in some books/sites but i have found & worked out to 37/37.1g of N140 with 55g bullet. I have now backed off as i got the same result with 36/36.5g but dont crono my ammo but they worked. You should if you want to try work up to 37/37.1g & look for signs of pressure. All rifles are diffrent & so many factors involved with accuracy & then the most importiant the user. I am a good shot & my rifle is a remmy 700 in an H-S stock but it dose need rebarreld but mine will shoot on my good day 3 shots under 5p. I work 50g v-max/55g v-max & got on very well

Hello get someone with experiance to help you.I bore scope mine for a start when putting on an optic & start at 50m.If you look at your turret it should tell you on it how much it moves per 100yrds & there is no need to set target way out at 120yrd/m.I set mine at 80/90m as so i can see the 1" target & have it just grouping the top of 1" target ie on the line. You must stuggle to see the target at 120yrd & i have an old S&B 2.5x10x56 which is a moonlight/stalking scope & the cross-hairs block the target for me 100m but aint complaning as its taken some stuff for me over

Andrea has kind of hit the nail on the head i had my dog ruined by a bully dog & a dog of this nature is ok if you can really keep on top of it. Bit of advice but you should never kennel/keep a lab & terrier together im surprized you still have the JR & its not been killed even if you got them together. Seen the day you would need a shovel to clean up a terrier in a kennel i keep all my dogs seperate but can put some together but i kinda know these dogs & what gets on.

Hey remmy i told you im not fussed about shooting a medal a cull buck will do

Hello i havent read all the post but in febuary/march the cover & food value is at its lowest. The main reason is the does fetus is very heavy & she will feed out all day bringing her last year off spring too Which is normally 2 kids in good areas with good feed etc out.The doe needs to feed to develope the fetus & herself & bucks will be in with a doe teratory too & be packing in body weight after putting in an effort to grow a head. If you have a couple does together with kids & couple bucks then you could see wee groups of 5-10 roe out in fields.

Hello PMC can be ok but there cheap get v-max 50/55g or speer/sierra spbt (soft point boat tail) if for deer as v-max/nosler etc are for vermin use only not deer.

Hello there is many to choose from i have a remmy 22.250 & a tika695 25/06. I have semi customed up my remmy with an H-S stock & plan to jewell trigger it & blue print rebarrel it. The tika has less options to semi custom but it depents on your budget & what you want but out the box the remmy is great & so easy to trick up to what ever you want & good to work on. My friend baught a remmy sps 25/06 jewell triggerd it & loves it shoots sub 1" with factory remmy 100g no prob. I might sell mine to get a remmy action for a 25/06 as its easyer for my plans but that will b

Well done Mark im sitting back just yet weather not been so good.I have kind of got on top of my main bit & not seen so many to cull but its early yet.I have shot 1 button buck i got into 10 3 of bucks but the 2 better went into wood & left me the wee lad but its a beast.
-
Well done Mark you would have knowen by the beast it was hit though i take it mate & all was well. Iv had a mate under wing trying to get him but im out myself in the morning on my north ground as the farmer was it me tonight to shoot 1.

Well done i hate cats too & even if near a pen as said birds settle down after a minute but a cat will stress them & move them.Even if a non feral it was in the woods doing damage. Ali looks like i need to come up for a nites lamping as i love cat work with the spot-light.

Great pics looks fun when is Scotland getting bango action? & not just glasgow area as there is more to Scotland than the borders.
-
Well done Dave & my cull bucks ie last year kids all get shot in velvet as april/may i have big movement on with the big lads pushing so i cull my own & incomers & take advantage of the bolt work/sport. I leave my mature/older till clean mid april/may or if clean & coloured now they get it. If it were quite a bad old/murder buck holding out potentual bucks i take him any chance i get. As you know im no trophy hunter but love to see roe heads in all there glory hard horn & colour i love diffrent shapes etc & addmire them big & small & as you know i have a nice we

Loads up here & we can only get a licence to shot 10 or so could do with unlimited up on the high water spawning grounds of salmon in my eyes same with cormarants.

I homeload as 12yrs ago factory ammo was limited but is better now with choice & consistanty.Powder/heads etc have went through the roof but it is still cheaper than factory stuff. Once you get a load your happy with its quite easy & you learn a system that works for you & load 100 at a time no probs or 50 at a time. Its good as you can try diffrent things & see what your rifle likes but you can load for certian quarry.
