  1. Very nice strong pups, by the looks of 'em they should turn out as strong as the sire. Surprised they ain't gone yet!
  2. With all due respect Ray, that dog has been almost drowning in its own publicity in life and since its death. So many things have been written over the years about it's breeding, life and work, that if you can 'honestly' clarify, it would put so many things to bed. Ha! You may turn a few on their head..... Just a question, 1966, i'm sure your Y.O.B.... and you have 'just' read sommat about this dog??
  3. Well what price anything if...... You want it bad enough? It'll get you what you want/need? It'll do all you require? It becomes all you ever want/need? That said for all breeds.... BUT..... This is in the 'Running Dog & Hound' section and some of the best i've owned and seen cost.... 'buttons'! I'm not a tight arse, by any means....... But.... I'm old enough to remember when really decent stuff was advertised in the Exchange & Mart for just about the price of rearing...... Mostly for folk who were looking to breed their own replacement, one or two went to friends,
  4. Very tidy..... Looks to have a good gallop in it and..... as they say..... if they can't run, they can't catch! Best of luck
  5. As always, great pics WH. Nice to see lads who try to get the most from their dogs. Never owned one, nor come near to owning one......But I do admire those who try........ Suppose the bitch in my avator pic is just about as close as i'll ever get........ but she couldn't catch a hare in telephone box!!
  6. Ain't seen one of those for many a year...... To me they'd always be a gamble, 'opening-up' is sommat I wouldn't want in a lurcher and their would be a high chance with this cross. I recon they were bred a bit more pre-saluki, by lads wanting a bit of stamina. Might be a drop in some of the old lurcher to lurcher lines. The book 'Rebecca the Lurcher' is about this cross, a lovely quaint book, one of the first, well worth a read..... .....(note to self..... buy this book, again!)
  7. Funny that, as I too did a fair bit of swimming, then have almost always worked around water and drowning is one of the worst forms of dying I can imagine, always had a fear of it. Thought about this one a fair bit of late.......maybe because of age.....! The one way out I don't want is to end up an incontinent, dribbleing, brain addled skeleton in a fecking care home, seen that way out a fair few times. To combat that I'd like to think i'd keep as active as possible in my dotage then maybe a almighty heart attack or stroke will hit, making things a damn sight quicker. Now keeping acti
  8. Very nice Chucky....... best of luck with 'em (i'm sure you'll keep us posted).
  9. Love them old pics impressive! If you have anymore keep 'em coming.....
  10. Be interestin to know a liitle more about that dog Dean.
  11. Good intro....... Welcome :welcomeani:
  12. How big do you need the head, how much jaw power is needed for a fox?? Big headed terriers are usually head turners but underground, as long as it gets the job done, that's what matters! Some of the best fox killers underground I've seen have had quite snipey heads, it's a knack rather than power. I'm sure if your looking to keep big headed terriers 3/4 breds will produce with 'em and you stand a much better chance of 'em actually going to ground and 'FINDING' their quarry in the first place, sommat that is very often overlooked these days!!!
  13. Yes, Skycat I think in it's simplest terms, you could be right, over the years, whatever could be/is in the mix, they are just long time lurcher to lurcher bred dogs and no better or worse for it. Providing the breeders of these types put the better animals to the better animals and these are well tested, i'm sure nothing but good will come out. I like 'em! Cracking looking dogs in those pics by the way
  14. I'd agree with you there Zac...... This type of lurcher has interested me ever since the Burrell ad's started to appear. I kept my eyes and ears open to see if anyone (both writers and aquaintances) could confirm these 'ancient types' really were all that. I did ring Mr Burrell a few years back..... I liked him, strange critter that he is but I couldn't get my head around his logic. I listened and listened and though some of his words seemingly came from a man that did/has run lurchers, some stuff just didn't stack up. The bit which snapped me back down to earth was when I made the mist
  15. Very smart BC, 'Ol Yella was a Blackmouth wasn't he?
  16. I'm sorry Derek but as important all that might be to you and indeed us, its just to long winded to 'trawl' through, some might, fair play to them, I hope they 'get it' but I can't see many replys on here and especially from youngsters, of which we have many, the people who are most vulnerable. I would be interested in some sort of breakdown version though, laymans terms, in your own words, sommat I could read and possibly reply to, as though birds of prey ain't my bag, I would find the Cook Report stuff interesting. Again I apologise, as i'm not knocking you and I fully realise the ef
  17. Border Collie's GWP EBT APBT Lakeland Russell Black Terriers Whippet Greyhound Lurchers, of most types Not in that order over the years.
  18. 'Christ!!......I think I've just met Darcy!!!'
  19. I wouldn't know about that in a scientific way, though I would say it would be far to soon (for how many years have we had urban foxes, my guess would be around 40, in numbers) to change these animals phisically but from the 'old' days of hunting town foxes for years, most seemed of a smaller type, though the odd big 'un did turn up. I belive diet and smaller territorys would play a part, foxes wouldn't have such a vast area to roam, then when in population, maybe not the best dog fox specimens would get to breed, which could produce smaller, weedier offspring?
  20. Would that be for the metal work and collars ? Depends on your age I suppose, Selwyn...... I probably would!! SS tells me his metal comes from the same supplyers for B&F (at least for the brass), put that to them nylon webbing collars he makes and your gonna get a few years out of 'em. Certainly gonna last at least as long as any leather collar couplings on the market today.
  21. Like I said in my experience they dont take long to adapt to a lamp or your call...In the past I've had country ones come in just as quick as these "urban" ones. At what point do they cease to be urban? Most of the estates round here border countryside so I get confused up here they squeak in , but we went down south last year , as i lived there for a bit and when i moved back up here we had a due down , and the foxes there roamed the streets ect , dont think have ever seen a rabbit in there life , therfore when we tried to squeak them , was pointless , they just wasnt intrested ,
  22. You get my vote Simo..... But Wilf..... Feck that!! He'd be no fun 'all respectable'......a true rough diamond.
  23. A great pic Dox , one of my fav little birds. A pair nested in the old brick shithouse in the garden next door this year, been a pleasure watching the comings, goings and fledging.
