  1. Whilst I hate to judge anyone by a photo, even if that dog was more than capable of taking 5+ foxes a night (and i've seen a few of that type that can) without taking any stick, even if the dog stayed on its feet throughout.... Those foxes certainly wouldn't have..... an what lovely fluffy beautys they are! It must have 'held' every one on its right side, as the left ain't seen dirt!!
  2. Right now...... In this climate.....? Lurcher X Lurcher....... Line bred....... from old and well tested stock....
  3. Line bred LurcherXLurcher, find a good 'un and the'll serve well, recently gone back to 'em after years in the wilderness!!
  4. First Lurcher, I was 7, first terrier 14 and never been without them since, i'm now 41.
  5. Very nice MW, voted She's from Inverness....... Bet she's not one of the 4&20!!
  6. Buy a copy of Plummers 'Fell Terrier' most of the above is answerd in there, a decent base to start. Plenty of stuff on here too, if you take the time to search.
  7. Good stuff Undisputed That'll do the old timer the power of good. I'm not a big fan of retirement for older dogs as they all still have their uses, retirement just sees them fade faster, we just have to respect their capabilitys as they get older, and that photo really prove's their's life in the old dog yet.
  8. sometimes you have to x breed to get what your looking for. Yes.... But only to improve 'working type' not 'working ability' Is that short enough!!! y not ability?surely if you x a jack with a lakie ur improving the ability of the jack Ehhhh???? Lets try and simplify things, without going on at this late hour.... Some people would, and do, prefer certain breeds over others for their work, and the ability of each breed may be different and suited to the type of graft they do..... This does not make any one breed inferior to another!! It's just down to preference..

  10. Wise words Wilf..... Didn't we reply to the same type of thred about these mythical beasts once before ..... Only last time I think wrote the answer (though not as well)....
  11. Good subject Jack, When I started with terriers back in the late 70's, Border/Lakies were a type rather than a cross... Black n' tan dogs were Lakelands, black dogs were Patterdales and white's Russells..... And never the twain shall meet, seemed the order of the day. I suppose back then what some now refer to as Fells were Border/Lakies? Why cross a Border with a Lakeland??? Well, reading Plummers Fell Terrier, it'll mention 'calming the fiery Lakie disposition with the more placid Border, to produce an animal that would not be so wreckless'!! I doubt that would be the only thing a
  12. I had one, a first cross, out of the so called 'performance bred' stuff...... Shite, would be an understatement!!
  13. I'd have thought all that success last Sunday would have kept him going with the dog game..... The power of the ribbon must not be as strong in some.....!
  14. I've always looked upon the border as a real shame...... Shame that such a near perfect, sound physical terrier could/would be near brought to ruin by the Sheckel, I suppose it just went out of 'fashion' in the world of the 'working' terrier! Some continued to breed good 'uns, Levi was one and I rated Jeff Fenerolli's also, I have heard the breed is still safe with some.... I hope so. Park's stuff can throw Border type from time to time, these seem to produce decent stock too. Though, if any take the time to look back at that line of Fell's, some were very Borderish (Buck's Tiger & Tex)
  15. Good going Mark, dogs look well and a fair effort with the camera, far better than I, this comp should be interesting.
