As far as i'm concerned a Lurcher is a Lurcher because of what it does, not what makes up it's breeding. I've kept bull crosses for near 20 years but they are still Lurchers. As for the way they work, well i've ran and caught just about all there is to catch over the years, no different to any other type, it's just lurcher work, as simple as... I've got to admit and it's this question that got me thinking but i've always seen a Bull cross as only the cross between two breeds one of which is a Bull but when ya think of it, that would be only because you know it is that way bred and if

you'd be surprised mate, theyre getting fecking everywhere,i didnt think they were local to me but i was wrong, theres a lake bout 2 mile away thats lifting wi em,i took the kids wi some string and bits of chicken and we caught 32 maybe someone on here knows of any local to you mind you,i forgot your in liverpool, they've probably all been nicked  Thanks mate, if someone does know of anywhere local to my area, please give me a shout.

Great going Stubby, I do envy you boys for having them local, sommat i'd love to try.

Bosun What other breeders added Bulldog? How do you know they were used as Lurchers? Have you any reference of this?? And the Bulldog they are refering to I suspect is closer to a PB its just refered to as a bulldog To be honest I have no direct references, other than what I have been told from greyhound men in the past, lad's who have ran unlicenced. Lets face it, if Lord Orford used a bulldog outcross in the 1800's with excellent results, would some others after not follow and try it for themselves? As for being used as lurchers, why not, it'd be no different than when whippet

Some very good action shots there Beado, keep 'em coming...

AMEN to both the above posts....

Sure you can get a dog from a pound and it could graft, I have, and you could get sommat from unknown none working breeding and that could be dug to also BUT if you went looking at either of those places to aquire a dog that you 'expect' to 'consistantly' dig to, then you'd want your fecking head tested..!! Proven parents do not guarantee a working dog but it sure as hell minimises the chances of a none worker..!!

It'll fecking run mate, that shaped pup always will, very very nice...

I think you get more out of it than you keep telling us Whin. Yep, EDRD is a cracking mag and before this site I was an avid buyer but on a site such as this you can read just as much good stuff, even if you have to trawl through some shite to get to it and, you don't have to wait a month or two for a reply either! 7,927 post you have made as I type this. Now to most thats a lot and though you always speak about getting out, the hours and posts spent on this site, tell a slightly different tale... Now don't get me wrong Whin, I, like you and others, still get to spend a fair 'ol bi

Whin, the lurcher world has always had changes, in my life of hunting and before. Hunting with these versitle dogs is full of variables, and different dogs can be used for various jobs as well as all round work, I really don't think it matters BUT I do think you may be talking about unedible quarry here and the fact that some have ran this quarry before anything else... What does it matter, each to thier own, thats how it should be. Who says someone should or shouldn't do what he does? The fact that this type of dog can be put to so much use should be the bottom line here! The biggest change

Good find, like I said in the thred on 'Old school lurchers', the greyhound men have been doing it for years and all those first and second crosses would have been used as lurchers. Nowt new about the bull cross, until it's cousins turned up from across the pond.

New kennels ,just finished
Bosun11 replied to Squirrel_Basher's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Nice job mate, though as well as sureing up those fence pannels i'd also put a small piece of board across the bottom of each kennel, so it's a small hop over and stops that straw falling on to your run a bit, saves on blocking drains. -
Bloody good going on a poor night, shows ya what can be done with a good dog and an expierienced lamper.

Thats usually the case with most 'brands' that become popular and Le Chameaus reputation has been growing over the past 10 years. Wellies are my big problem at the moment. To be honest, as good as Aigles and Le Chameaus are a lined pair right now are out of my price range. I could afford the boot but couldn't afford to puncture a pair going over wire or summat within a year or so of gettin 'em. If i'm goin to fork out that sort of cash, it's gotta last. So this year I plumped for a pair of Regatta neoprene's, knew it was the cheaper end of the market but worth a punt. Advertised at over £50

Good shout Long Dogs, best idea for a new section yet! Though if it were possible, only those who pin photos would be allowed to post on it, would save trawling through the same pic 200 times with 'nice dog mate' pinned on it...

He pm'd me the other day and said he was coming back today and was going to pay a visit to the Running Horses pub.

Thanks Tomo. Yer, should get better each coming year, we'll certainly try to do that for her. Caught her singing 'Away in a Mainger' the other day (in her own mumbled style!) must have done it at nursery, now if that didn't do it for all things Christmasy nothing will...

I'm feeling a bit Christmassy now, to be honest, i've always liked it. Our daughter is two now and it's bloody good fun with her and next year should be even better, they are what Christmas is all about. My Mrs is pretty organised, we had everything bar the grub boxed off by mid November, as both of us hate battling through shopping madness. So that left us free to take a trip to the Manchester Christmas Market the other week, just for the hell of it, really enjoyed it without the pressure. Doing the same this Wed too with a run in to Liverpool. The tree went up last week, I hate it goin up
