  1. f**k is that 4 real rotted the dogs eye right out? It is for real but it's not rotted the dogs eye out..! The eye was taken out through being pierced by Blackthorn and was stitched (you can still see some). But a flimsy 'lampshade' and a bomb head of a dog with an itchy eye don't mix, so he smashed his head against the kennel and finally got that itch scratched..! It caused the stitches to burst and all that was left was to leave the empty socket to heal, don't look to pretty there but it was always clean and healed very well.
  2. Blackthorn is bad for man and beast.....
  3. Never easy mate with an old 'un but i'm sure you've done whats best for both.
  4. Blackthorn always goes bad, i'd take Skycats advice, the latter part..!
  5. Welcome Wilow. Sounds like your bitch is a typical example of its breeding, collie blooded dogs can be a bit late with a strike as youngsters, with some even trying to trap with thier feet first. Salukis too, love the chase but can sit back to choose their moment for a strike, you may think it should have happend at various times during the run but they know when the time is right. In both cases mate, don't worry, it sounds like your bitch is slow to mature but thats never a bad thing. My advice would be firstly, give up that lure nonsense! It will only confuse a yougster and will teach he
  6. DFK, plenty of lines of Fell Terriers have always thrown the odd white pup, read Plummers book and it'll tell you. Most of the lines of these white (Fell type) terriers we see today where purpose bred in the 's and it wasn't with work in mind... That said and some will graft, after all, they originally came from working stock.
  7. Staffs I ain't got any parent pics mate, I've got some of the dog itself but need to re-size 'em and put 'em up. The pup's certainly racey enough but strong with it too, as it should be. It really is a bonny pup but needs the time putting in. Anyone who's pm'd me, i'll forward on Moggys number.
  8. A bloke I once knew had a decent ferreting F1 Saluki but it was the same as Tomo's, in that it's attension span wasn't that long and would either wander or whine if waiting for too long. She'd be right back if needed but he would be constantly checking for her if the ferrets were down a while. That said, she would mark, respectful of both nets and ferrets, was lightning quicki on bolters and had a wonderful 'tip toe' around holes. The bloke that owned her put a lot of time in and it paid off but I wouldn't go looking for a dog of this type if I was an out and out ferreter.
  9. A lot of dogs, especially terriers, can be lead agressive. It's the sheer flustration of being harnessed when the natural instincts of exploration are kicking in. As said, you will probably find that off the lead, in an enviroment to channel its natural instincts will see a different dog, ie WORK..!! Some terriers will show all the signes of early maturity, though the reality is different and at 7 months, it's now that you should be hunting that dog none stop again, as said, mooching and killing rats is a fantastic start and if you have the opportunity to work him alongside other dogs, provid
  10. As above, a 7 month old dog, 24" (so far). £100. Sire, half bred Bull Greyhound. Dam, full Deerhound. The pup isn't mine it's Moggy2011 off here. Currently overdogged with work commitments so he's letting this youngster go. This is a very tidy youngster and should make a big 'un, (if it was a bitch i'd have taken it myself..!) He's looking for a good honest home, with someone who will put the time and effort in, which is what this pup requires. Put that effort in and this pup will certainly 'go'!! Moggy ain't on here that much so if you drop me a pm and I will forward his
  11. A mate had a cracker many moons ago, wrote about the dog in early EDRD, wrote under the name Greylab. Moggy2011 off here has one now, i'd certinly own it..!!
  12. Back in the 's and early 90's you'd see a lot of terriers of the Border/Lakie type (crossbreds) with dense hard jackets and skin underneath like a fecking Rino, don't see many about's these days, seems like most folk want and breed to a specific type with a specific name and jacket type is lost on colour. Many Lakies too would grow a soft linty coat and a top knot under their harder outer jacket, throwbacks to Bedlington ancestry, again, you just don't see it these days. Shame really, once upon a time it was all about performance... Form should always follow function...
  13. Seen a good few over the years doing the talks. The old Wigan Club, Merseyside & North Wales used to have at least one yearly, crackin nights too with some great names giving great talks! Now these where club nights, with faces known by all, with interest and respect for each other and the guest speaker. I've also been to 'open' nights where general tickets where sold, a totaly different atmosphere! I think in this day and age anything other than a club night would be lunacy for both the speaker and the organiser!!
  14. Great job on the Opinel, shite job on the thumb, best of luck with it Carl... Ouch..!!
  15. Fecking hell Chalk's, refused entry on a Plummer 'gig' and batton rash in a 'Shalamar' suit on The March, your off field antics are just as good as your hunting, please tell more...
  16. Good on ya Trinder. Don't matter where your dog is from, nor whats in him, if he keeps you content thats what counts. You sound a man that is happy with his lot and they are few and far between on here.. Best of luck!
  17. Sticky pads are good for lofts etc if you can locate a run.
  18. Feck me! An 11 month old pup, all full of itself and wanting to hunt and folk want to put a shock collar on it.. Shame on you..! Sounds like either you have a head strong pup, you didn't get your recall right, or maybe a bit of both. Though don't judge every dog by anothers standards, they may be both of the same cross but don't make the mistake of judging one dogs temperement off anothers, especially at that age. Ask yourself as to why you went for a bull cross, where you not looking for prey drive and a desire to catch and kill? If that answer is yes then, simply go back to basics with y
  19. Is it deffinatley 'flat footed', or has it got feet and toes that are flat? Is it simply bull greyhound? Dogs will become flat footed through lack of excercise and, as said, these can be brought back through regular road work. there are also dogs that inherit a flat type of foot, simply the way a foot is built from it's breeding and no ammount of roadwork will fix this, nor should it be fixed, and if the dog is fit, then it should run. Folk seem to think feet should always look a certain way based on other dogs and this is not always the case. I've seen dogs with 'terrible looking' feet run
  20. Your right, they ain't from working stock and yep, you'll always get mixed responces...
  21. In full agreement with you Halty Lad, I owned a fine looking first cross dog, sadly thats all he was, a fine lookin dog! Seen others go too and never seen anything that made me think that they could come near a good bull cross...
  22. 'From the' not 'in the' would always be a better way of putting it matey on an 'open' internet forum...
  23. In this day an age that is to be admired mate, i've only bred one. As far as i'm concerned the bitch is as important as the dog, i'd always admire a good bitch over a good dog and there are far more good dogs. So choose wisley, (no offence) but with your years with running dogs behind you, go for your gut not your head, you'll know when something is right, no matter how 'unlikely' that may seem. When I heard about Lima's litter, (Doxhope Knights Errant x Rivington Ena), my gut instinct was to get one ! My "head" then kicked in and I did my home work, including PM'ing the man who bred t
