  1. Showing both bushing dogs, and working Teckel's, at tomorrows show... ?
  2. Got both bushing dog classes and Teckle classes, as well as the Lurcher and Terrier classes tomorrow.. ?
  3. Our Sandy, first cross Whippet/Greyhound. Hard as fecking nails. An avid cat killer that went through a shop window after her prey. In the terriced streets where we lived, she ran cats along the back yard walls, after leaping up off the coal bunkers. She came a cropper many a time, broke toes, ribs and sliced tendons but she never quit on em. Thats me, on the left, next to mum, our Sandy was my first hunting dog and over the years as i was growing up, we caught loads of stuff, from rabbits to foxes. I foolishly retired her aged 15 whilst she was still catching rabbits and she pined away a
  4. Of course a good rub down before & after graft would be benificial, and i've seen some fantastic videos on the subject. Back in the day on those lamping missions all over the country, it was a case of a few hours drive to your chosen speck, find a field, bail out, walk a few yards along a hedge stand still and call. Then run, hopefully catch and straight back in the motor and on to the next decent field or pair of eyes. Our poor dogs just about had time to shit and it was total stop start for them. Christ, it was tough on them, but the best did it, week in week out. No rub downs, jus
  5. Forced to turn off this mornings news because of the shite spouted on the dangers of 'the heatwave'... Just bollox, it's gonna get in the early 30's between Sunday and Monday and they are trying to make out the country's in crisis...! Boils my piss... ?
  6. A bloke I know is a kc Pharaoh hound judge and I once bumped into him talking to a lady who had a stu ning Pharaoh on a lead. I asked him if they could catch rabbits, of course they could, was his answer and proceded to lecture me about how good the breed was at hunting. The lady with him said nothing. I bumped into her a few weeks later, she remembered me and told me the dog couldn't catch a rabbit in a telephone box and, when let off a lead would either do nothing, or run itself into a state of collapse. Either way, the dog wouldn't ever come back and she faced miles of lead walking every da
  7. I do like an Ormskirk/Lancashire Heeler though. As a kid there were loads of em about, sadly not so many now. And we all knew, never try to befriend one, they had the snap of an alligator...!
  8. Your dead right about Spinones these days. One of the Rangers on a nearby country park has one. Like it's parents, it's a big, cloddy, ungainly thing. Hardy got a run, or free movement in it. Fecking orrible...
  9. All i seem to see these days is dogmen and former dogmen advertising bull blooded, balls of blubber puppies these days. It's a lilac/merle/chocolate/lemon drizzle... with the best lines in the world, FACT..! Really..?? Who gives a flying feck.... They are a disgrace, YOU are a disgrace, for breeding with no thought to anything bar demand... Shame on them all...

    Turkey

Olu Deniz would be my choice in Turkey ??. Lovely place, been several times.
  11. Always fed a really good puppy kibble to all of my pups, along with their totally mixed diet. You've simply got to do your very best at that age. For grown dogs I've got access to good raw food, chicken carcasses in the main but I now can get just about anything I want. Kibble is far less important to me or my dogs. My local greyhound supply man is a good mate and over the years I've tried just about every kibble on the market off him but with such a good meat supply, I just buy Lidl's working dog complete. It's dirt cheap, easy to purchase, always available and, even when fed on its own,
  12. And though i can't/don't come close to Old Phil's post, IMO I can only give my two penneth worth.... Though I've had near 50 years with lurchers, my 'training' in the begining was total bollox... I ran pastoral bred dogs, BUT simply relied on recall, and dogs not 'fecking off' with their catch... Oh, it just wasn't good enough...? Then i got them big half cross bull bred thingys and, 'foolishly' i ruled them with a rod of iron. Thought I 'should' do. Thing was, in my ignorance, they were the easiest most biddable things I've tried to train. And 25 years later I know that was a
  13. ? Recon your mum should be in the Seycelle's by September... £££
  14. I recon that would make a great read, there certainly was some characters in the selling game back then... ? Think there were a few high-street suppliers of those oblong type lamps, as Bird Catcher said, Argos did them and I remember getting one from Halfords. One of them came with a red filter too...? ?
  15. It's always good when you can pick out summat rare. Seen a couple of Dandy Dinmonts and would love to see one doing a bit of ratting....
  16. Wow... Rare as rockinghorse shite. Though I'm sure that'd be a kc one and not 'directly' bred from former working stock. I always wonder how the kc hounds (fox, harrier etc) would react if they were in a pack. Would their instincts make them happier if they were so, or do humans just take that roll.. ?
  17. Blue Eyes Black Eyes and Clear Eyes All great lamps back in the day. They also did a smaller version that was real handy in some specks. Tough as old boots too. ?
  18. Talking to the bloke who mowes the grass on our local footy field, its a week next Saturday... Can't wait... ?
  19. The kid next door to me goes an gets one... One of them deerhound/greyhound/collie/ Beddy/Saluki/bull type things, that usually level out quite nice (did I miss out whippet!?) It's a dog, and at nearly a year old, 'can't quite control itself around his newly aquired family'.... And 'levelled' a walker on the beach, just by it boisterous ways... Damn shame really, poor fecker just wants to run, seen it growing up... This stunning blue thing, would look magnificent behind quarry, given half the chance⁰ Got asked to find it a home, but I hate playing the middle man... Dam
