The plantation you see on the right is being thinned in the spring. There will be harvesters and forwarders in and out , maybe they will flatten it out when it’s a bit drier .

Look at the direction of the tread it’s on the return journey. Where you enter the cover you end up being locked in like on a train track . I hate riding ruts and in all my years I’ve never seen anything like this . I am as fussy as hell and to see this mess pisses me off. But wherever you are bottlenecked or the ground makes you have to follow a track you sometimes can’t help it . If you have to take these routes day in day out then it makes a real mess .

I’ve been riding in the same ruts all winter . The rain washed the bottom out . You see them rushes on the left , that means it’s boggy and you see them trees on the right there is a tree close as you drive in . You can’t get out of the ruts , it’s so wet . You could have tried to bollock me , but I would have just said “ well you show me how it’s done , expert “ and stood back and watched .

They reckon it was the wettest autumn in living memory , and the winter hasn’t been much better. Every morning I’m out feeding pheasants and I’m spinning wheat into mud and puddles , I’ve had to get really aggressive tyres on my ATV because I was sliding and slipping all over . We have got drives on this shoot that have been impossible to shoot because we can’t get the guns there . It’s been a bloody headache.

Thursday night saw a torrential downpour that caused a flash flood on the estate I work on . One house was flooded and a garage with a vintage car in it , the damage runs into thousands. The ground was already saturated, so any more water just runs straight off . I went to put some feed out in one of the covers this morning and got stuck . The rain from Thursday had washed the soil away in the wheel ruts and I bottomed out . I tried to dig myself out but couldn’t. A phone call to the tractor driver it was , and the look on my face was enough for him to think twice about taking the piss . I had

Nice pics and write up Stavross. I used to have a mate come with me and we took it in turns to shoot . He went through a bit of a “miss everything “ period. I got so wound up and pissed off about it that the partnership dissolved . He’s still a mate and to be fair he shoots a lot of deer . I think a lot of it was me pressuring him to take shots because I knew they were about to disappear, and he wasn’t comfortable or ready . Now that I am a “lone wolf “ I can only blame myself if anything goes wrong . If someone comes with me now they hold the rank of “Chief opener and closer of the gates “.

Poverty in itself doesn’t always breed criminality , but throw in a stupid young single mum and a violent absent father and drink and drugs and a pervert uncle who babysits a few times a week in the mix and you can see why these kids get a distorted idea of what’s right and what’s wrong. I had it easy as a kid but my wife’s family was as poor as f@ck , they had nothing , but they did have love and boundaries and all her brothers and sisters have done well . I don’t make excuses for them , but I can see where it comes from , I’ve got a good idea what these young men’s early lives must have been

I believe that anyone who commits a serious crime like this is a victim of circumstance . They haven’t had proper parenting and guidance, these guys who are basically kids .They have probably been dragged up by a poor dis function al family. Look around any council estate in this country to see gangs of feral kids roaming about . I’m not defending what they did , but they were probably off their tits on vodka . I am all for the death penalty , they should be shot . But I also see the tragedy of it . My wife and me foster kids , and I see the damage done to young people by alcohol, drugs , dom

I’m not anti death penalty. Those boys will pay the price for what they did . But I don’t think it will deter people who are drunk on vodka because they’ve got no hope .

It’s tragic really. Since the fall of communism, the eastern bloc has been robbed. A few criminals , basically gangsters have stripped the wealth from country’s like Belarus and Moldova . If you were to ask the average person in these countries if there quantity of life has improved the answer would be no . They are worse off now than in Soviet times . Alcoholism is rife among young and old . These young men were probably victims of a deprived and abusive childhood , they have probably got drink problems . Nice pics Stavross and good to see you’ve got a few left . We shot today and it was the first shoot of the year . We shot on the 28th December and they had a fortnight to pull back in . It was very windy today and and a bit of drizzle, but the birds were there and tucked up in the brambles , rushes and bracken . The syndicate were on form and shot well . We’ve only got one more day now ( next Saturday) and I guess they don’t want to leave any for the beaters. I was surprised by how many we shot , I decided to only shoot four drives instead of 5 which we usually do , but instead blank in more -

I just can’t see how this is going to work ? He had just had his gaff refurbished at tax payers expense to the tune of 2.5 million . Will he pay us back ? He will still need protection . Is he going to pay for that ? What about their “carbon footprint “ that she is so worried about? Jetting backwards and forwards from Canada . I used to think that Harry was one of the better members of the Royal family, but the guy has been well and truly “pussy whooped”!!!

I agree , the guys a prick , I don’t agree with the what he said about the hunters . But he’s got his opinions. We are all entitled to an opinion, and we don’t all agree . But if you can put aside your “anti Ricky “ prejudice for 10 minutes and watch the way he shoves it up em , you might just look at him in a different light .
