  1. This weekend has been crazy. The amount of people who are everywhere on the shoot. If I look up at the banks on the shoot they are covered in picnickers, ramblers , mountain bikers. And all other forms of humanity. I have had Larsen traps vandalised and call birds released . I dare not put down snares at the moment. The land owner is fed up with people parking in gateways and trespassing all over the shop , he’s been putting up little signs, and someone took a dump next to one and left their precious bog roll on it . I can’t wait until all these people can get back to doing what the
  2. Maize went in Saturday, wind has dropped here so we are spraying with a pre - emergent . Too dry really, but we had a soaking on Friday and the ground has been rolled so it just might germinate.
  3. That was a good read , and a good result. It’s nice when a plan comes together.
  4. We have a trout fishery on the estate and the fishermen are always moaning about goose muck on their line . They also raise the nitrogen levels in the water which can lead to algae blooms making the fishing impossible. I shoot loads of them . I have even resorted to knocking them off the water when they are in moult , which won’t be long . They make good fox bait !!?
  5. What a load of tripe that was , unlike you I watched it , it didn’t get any better.
  6. I’ve been through Netflix and didn’t fancy anything on there so I payed £4.99 and streamed the newish Sam Mendes film 1917 , it’s the best film I’ve seen in a long time , I can recommend it , my wife even liked it and she doesn’t like war films as a rule and groaned when I put it on . 10/10
  7. I can see the concerns about coming out too early but what about the hospitality industry? If they don’t get a summer season their business could be finished. I work for a syndicate and their attitude is if it happens it happens, they have paid their subs and they wish to continue, they feel that it is important to keep the shooting industry going and support their keeper (me) , the game farm and feed suppliers. That is also the attitude of a shoot owner I talked to the other day , he said that shooting has been very good to his family, it’s allowed him a good lifestyle and put h
  8. Nice little trip out and a good result ?
  9. That’s a great start out on your own . You got yourself a good gun to start off with that should give you years of service. I like your style, Black gold !!!! They are a very good cartridge. Nowt wrong with getting the best you can afford. Like has been said try some clear pigeon next , I use them on pheasants, pigeons, everything , you might find that you could save a few bob . I always buy 30gram 6s for most of my game or vermin shooting , but I was loading for a gentleman on a bit of a posh shoot and he had an old pair of English game guns , I looked at his cartridge
  10. I’m always getting stuck in a dirty , muddy hole too , “oh no , here we go again “!!
  11. Both talented, “happy birthday” . I’d lose the glass though ?
  12. The Towans is the campsite down at Hayle , lovely big beach . You can get a little train to St Ives to save parking. My favourite place in Cornwall and I’ve been all over and love it , but we keep going back to , Trevone , it’s not far from Padstow ( Padstien) . Nice sheltered beach , amazing rock pools around the corner and great fishing off the rocks , perfect for a chilled out beach holiday. My favourite beach is down the road Constantine bay . I would be down there now if it wasn’t for this Covid nonsense.
  13. In normal times I’ve had a variation back in three days with Gloucestershire, can’t fault them , I was also told that if the rifle is scrapped there is no fee .
  14. Feed regular, shoot once a fortnight, never go without a dog that can retrieve off water , and don’t shoot more than you need .
  15. I just liked the length, it also looks like it will take a knock or two , because it is going to have a hard life in and out of the truck and mule . In all fairness the Wierauch would have been my first choice but it’s a bit more expensive and I wouldn’t want to abuse it because it’s so nice . The CZ is a great gun too and you can get them with a stainless barrel which is a big plus . Can’t wait to get my hands on it now .
  16. You have made me wonder , so I rang a mate up who is a RFD and I’ve done the right thing . I’ve also emailed the firearms dept to tell them what I’ve done and asked them to see if there id anything that can be done , as I need it for work . In all fairness Gloucestershire firearms have been first class , and I’ve always found them helpful and quick .
  17. I think you do , I’ve sent off the variation application and told them the old one is scrapped and also asked for the amount of ammo I can store to be upped . I delivered the envelope by hand , I’m prepared to wait a while .
  18. I’m doing a like for like , the dealer is scrapping my old 22lr and I’m getting a new 22lr. It’s a nice short 16” gun to keep in the truck . I like a nice quiet rifle , it helps pass the time as I’m going around at work if I see a squirrel or other vermin I shoot em . It’s cheap to feed and deadly accurate at a sensible range .
  19. Well the time came for me to say a sad farewell to my old Brno 22lr I’ve been unable to get a decent group for ages . I’ve cleaned it properly and couldn’t work out why it was performing so badly. Finally I took it to a custom rifle maker whose workshop isn’t far away for him to look at . In about 10 seconds he told me the barrel was bent . I use it for humane dispatch when I’m out with the terriers so there is every likelihood that it was stepped on . He said it could probably be straightened but said that the condition it’s in it was probably time for a new one . So I
  20. I’ve been a hopeless addict for years . I’ve wasted tens of thousands of cartridges and spent my children’s inheritance, I pushed my wife’s patience to the limit and I never win anything.
  21. I’m going clay shooting on Sunday . The ground near me is reopening, but is giving you a time slot to start , you miss it ....tough . You go around in pairs or on your own and keep your distance .
  22. Enjoying your posts Wolfdog , interesting to here about sport in the states .
