  1. Well done , patients usually pays off . Particularly when you know the ground has a few about . What call did you use ?
  2. Think of the pluses, at least they can’t take you shopping !!!
  3. Well you’ve just pissed all over my bonfire!!!
  4. Well Thursday morning I got a text from the chicken farm telling me there were feathers in the field . So I left the house at 8.0pm carrying rifle and all my gear to be greeted by a round of applause from all my neighbours. It was quite humbling to know that they appreciate all my efforts in reducing the fox population, but like I say “it’s just what I do “. I turned up at the farm and headed for the pile of blocks . I had contacted his neighbour who cut his silage a couple of days ago to ask if I could shoot his field from the farm and he was ok with it so I set up a calle
  5. Absolutely, if we don’t keep it going then we will do lasting damage to the industry. The feeling I get from our guns is even if we only shoot half the season they would be happy with that .
  6. The problem is that unless we get back to some kind of normality soon . Business and the country cannot sustain our already fragile economy. Who is going to pay for the “fantastic “ NHS , if they can’t tax us because we are all unemployed? Everyone wants to save lives , but where do you draw the line and say actually the impact of poverty on our nation’s health is worse than the corona virus. I’ve got a feeling that the powers that be are readying the nation to get back to work with some social distancing measures in place . I’m sure that if push came to s
  7. I was thinking the same . That’s a lot of lost income . I’ve never shot on a free range pork farm , but I’ve heard tell that foxes can hunt in packs on them and do serious damage.
  8. Has anyone seen any cubs on top yet , cos I haven’t yet . I usually start seeing them first week in May as a rule .
  9. You could be right . I’ve never been so busy at the chicken farm. It seems to be that they just keep coming in from who knows where . We had a dry summer back a couple of seasons and I noticed badgers feeding in broad daylight. I think that the chicken farm is losing his birds during the day before I get there . The hatches open at lunchtime, I think a daylight vigil would pay off .
  10. If you are referring to the dog and vixen I shot last night in my post in corona foxes , I’m putting some traps on the earth now , I’ll let you know how I get on . Looks busy , flies everywhere and flattened vegetation.
  11. Just keep going back and be persistent. Sounds like a good bit of permission, I’ve never taken any money for fox shooting other than bottles of booze and eggs . Someone will come along and do it for free otherwise, and there is your permission gone . I didn’t know but I unwittingly did this to a paid pest controller, who was a mate . I bumped into him and he seemed a bit offish with me . “Everything alright “? “ Well no not really “, and he explained how he had been paid to control the foxes on a farm and that I was now doing it for free . I explained that I had no idea that It was his gig and
  12. Text message this morning, “more feathers outside the hen house “ . Looks like the Mrs will be watching telly on her own again.
  13. Saw the tractors going past yesterday signalling the first cut on the silage . They fetched it all in today so I thought I’d better go and have a look . Only about three fields on the shoot with silage this year . I want to shoot a fox in daylight with my .243 , so I headed out to sit in the truck , tucked away in the corner of a cut field , but alas no show from Charlie. As day light faded and day turned to night , the .223 came out of its case and I reluctantly put the .243 away “its time will come “. So I drove from the first field to the next scanning as I drove wit
  14. Our birds are ordered, and it’s all systems go . I can’t see that this lockdown will carry on further than mid May . The country is at the point of bankruptcy, everyone needs to get the kids back to school and back to work. The old and vulnerable can do their social distancing if they want .
  15. I’ve got mixed feelings about diversionary feeding . I’ve tried it myself and found that I just ended up with a few birds reliant on the feed , and some birds not interested in being fed at all, and all you end up with is a lot of BOP. I’ve found that buzzards vary so much in their demeanour. Some are benign and some are aggressive killers . Gos hawks are the worst thing you can have around a pen . Kites don’t give me much trouble nor do sparrow hawks . It’s something that as a keeper you have to deal with . The fact is that if you put birds in a release pen , avian predators will want to ea
  16. An interesting write up Sausage. And an interesting thing to witness . I’ve never seen anything like that . I’ve shot a vixen in the process of moving a litter before but the cub was still alive . Satisfying to catch up with a fox like that . ?
  17. Don’t know . First time I’ve been able to get on since Saturday. I reckon we’ve been hacked by vegans and sabs .
  18. It’s a dust shelter for pheasants . The idea is that the ground underneath stays dry and dusty, then pheasants have a dust bath .
  19. I liked the cat mans motto , “feral cats make good hats”. The guy was crazy , he had a hat , coat , sugar container, bottle cover , you name it made of cat fur . But seriously they are a real problem over there . They are also a problem here . I always find it hard to understand, a lot of cat owners see themselves as “animal lovers”, but they unleash a super efficient predator on our wildlife , birds small mammals frogs , lizards , I used to find loads of lizards when I was a kid , I can’t remember the last time I saw one on this country.
  20. I saw that , he was reloading 180 grain bullets for cats !!! ????
  21. Good for you Stavross. Fortune favours the brave. I mentioned in another post about a lot of the big shoots here about and up and down the country not shooting this season or cutting back days . The reason I supposed is the uncertainty of the current crisis and the lack of money about . A lot of commercial shoots are basically corporate entertainment , and if big business is hit , it has a knock on effect to shooting . But I was thinking that there could be other reasons some shoots have decided to stop shooting. It could be a good time to say goodbye to unpopular shoot staff ? S
  22. The shoot where that fox was shot has a busy A road next to it and there is a lay-by and a little bit of a pull in tucked away alongside. The same thing happened there, a white van was spotted in there and it pulled off before they could get the reg number. When the keeper got there , there was a fox sprawled out warming it’s belly on the tarmac . They shot a lot of foxes over the next couple of nights. This has happened a few times . I hope they read these posts and realise what an exercise in futility releasing urban foxes in the countryside is . It’s actually cruel .
