  1. Did you ask him to fix it for you to milk a cow blindfolded??
  2. I’ve got a bicycle proficiency badge and a bronze personal lifesaving badge ……. Open to offers if anyone is interested, just saying like , no pressure.
  3. Don’t listen to Ben Gav , I offered £20 first . Anyway Stavross has seen the Minge pic and he told me he thought at first he was looking at a butcher’s scrap bin .
  4. I may be way off the mark here but the OBE isn’t a military medal , they dish them out to people who do charity work or things that benefit the community. South Atlantic medal for Falklands vets . Like Gav says she is dishing them up to anybody, the more diverse the better.??
  5. Fantastic bit of kit . Thermal scopes are the way to go IMO . I’ve had so many missed opportunities because of glare back from IR . Also a lot easier to find your target after you put your spotter down and pick up your rifle , if it’s on the move you can sometimes waste valuable seconds finding it again . This looks like a scope I would invest in . I’ve just got to talk to the Mrs ?
  6. Good result Ben . 13.5hrs !!! Part timer ?
  7. Great fun if you dispose of it properly . I’ve done the same .?
  8. I don’t subscribe to the nanny state , where everything should be banned. But when folk release these helium filled balloons or for that matter fire lanterns, they are no longer responsible for what happens to them when they reach the ground . Most of us don’t throw our litter on the street, so why is it alright to release it into the sky to land who knows where ? Not only is it an ugly litter nuisance they have the potential to kill livestock. The guys from our local pack pick up fallen stock and when they skin them they often do a bit of a PM if the farmer isn’t sure why the bea
  9. Just weighed last night’s dog fox . 17 llb 8oz . Not my biggest but that is about as big as we seem to get them around here . And what a stinker. I usually put gloves on when I pick them up , because I don’t like the smell on my hands , and disease. But I’d run out of gloves . It took about five hand washes and a shower, and there was still a faint whiff. Old Foxdropper loves the smell , he likes to rub his smelly hands on his pillow he told me ……. It helps him to dream of breaking through to the Terrier’s on a dig . It takes all sorts I suppose.
  10. Here’s my twopeneth ( wolf dog it’s an old English predecimal expression for “ my opinion). 1. Rats air rifle 2. Rabbits/ Hares , close foxes 22lr or 17hmr 3. Fox , a contentious subject, the .223 is hanging on in there as a popular choice or a .243 which is a versatile round . But a lot of serious fox shooters have moved to the wildcat / tac .20 practical .20 or the .204 Ruger . .4 the .6.5 in its various flavours is now a popular do everything . For fox and most deer species. I would say that the creedmoor isn’t probably the most popular of these . 5. For deer the 308 is
  11. If it had been my Schmidt & Bender , I would have still been confident. But my Pulsar digisight is a heavy ungainly looking thing . I also treat it with kid gloves and don’t throw it around. So it’s the first time it’s been tested in that regard and it passed the rough treatment test with flying colours. But I’m still going to put a couple on paper just to be super sure .??
  12. The problem is that they haven’t all started to roost off the ground and some are still against the wire or near the edges, which leaves them vulnerable to being scared by a fox running up on the outside and flying over the wire . I didn’t do it last night , but tonight I’m going to walk up and down at roosting time and push them in a bit if I can .
  13. I had an interesting evening. I had a FriendFeed to watch over the pen early evening in case the fox turned back up while I had my dinner ( spaghetti Bol) I said to my Mrs “ are you serious? Italian food , after last night!!!” “ oh I didn’t think of that” . Anyway I digress, so I returned and took over watching the pen at about 9.30pm I watched two badgers playing around a few roe and muntjac, but no foxes until I spotted something moving about in the long grass , was it a fox or a badger it was hard to tell . I kept watching with the thermal and then I heard something next to me I spun the th
  14. My reasoning for my attendance on the marches was that hunting is the thin end of the wedge . Once that’s gone they will move on to shooting, when that’s gone …fishing? These people won’t stop until we are a nation of “ bunny huggers “ . If anyone thinks that hunting is able to carry on as if nothing has happened , that’s not been my experience . The unwashed are out most days filming and making a nuisance of themselves. The police do get involved sometimes but it’s a bit different to Lurcher’s and coursing because there is no trespass involved and it’s difficult for the polic
  15. I put the birds in squires pen last Thursday and they are doing very well . They had their first wet night last night . I went to check them just before the kick off for the England game , I tucked them all in gave them all a mug of co co and read them their favourite story . All seemed well . I turned up this morning at just after 5.0am , I always quickly assess the look of the pen and quickly do a circuit around the perimeter to check for kills . I drove around the back of the pen which looks up onto the side of a huge bank to see if I could spot a fox running off . As I was sc
  16. I’ve got a 2013 Hilux that had 175000 on it when I got it . I’ve had it three years and it’s just gone past 2000000 . I change the oil and filter more often than I probably need to and never thrash it . It runs so smoothly and I’ve literally not spent a penny on it in repairs ( apart from a dpf regeneration) . I hope to keep it for as long as I can . I’ve always wanted a Hilux and I’m not disappointed .
  17. I was there. It was the first time that I realised the BBC and the whole media in general decided what they wanted the public to see (censorship) soviet style , misinformation and lies. The biggest demonstration between 1/4 and 1/2 a million people descend on our capital and hold a peaceful, dignified demonstration. When I got home I turned on the news and what did I see . Animal rights activists , (about three of them) protesting about us .
  18. I’ve seen that one before, but it was “if Carlsberg did refugees “.???
  19. Public relations could probably do with some improvement. My “communication” and “interpersonal” skills have been stretched to breaking point over this pandemic. I was always polite to people at first and would explain why they shouldn’t be where they were away from the footpath . Now hey get a “get that f@ckin dog on a lead and get back on the f@ckin footpath !!!???
  20. I swear part of my job is being an Agronamist . This one little patch of cover crop was very late going in because of bad weather, the ground itself was ok , but where it is was impossible to get machinery in without getting stuck . Being too late for Maize, we have drilled it with a mixture of fodder radish , stubble turnips and Utopia which is a fast growing mustard / kale hybrid . So in the last week I have had to spray for flea beetle and also because of the damp conditions a dressing of slug pellets. Brassicas are a bloody nightmare.
  21. Saw two foxes ( maybe Cubs ) in the distance through the thermal , but didn’t shoot any more last night . In spite of the cut fields they didn’t pull any foxes . But I’m out again tonight. An early start this morning to check the birds . All ok so I spun past the cut fields in the hope I might see Charlie having breakfast, but again nothing doing. Black grass is a big problem here and the reason why we have so much ground given over to silaging. The way they get rid of it is to drill the affected fields with Italian Rye grass and then cut the silage a few times then sp
  22. Got my first batch of birds today . So far so good . I think we are due a window of decent weather. They have started to cut a bit of hay and what looks like a field of wheat that is absolutely choked with black tail grass. So I’m out tonight . I’ve already OpenGL account with an unusual looking/ greyish dog fox , at a ridiculous distance, I wish I’d Mapulatored it . But I would say it’s about 250 meters which is my personal best with the night vision. But I spent so long looking for it in the long grass I forgot to measure it accurately ? Anyway here is a picture, with maybe more to follow…..
