  1. Been busy fixing the pens and getting the drinking systems clean and working. I’ve used an acid to clean the pipes this year and it seems to have done an excellent job . I thought I was on top of the squirrels this year but they just keep coming. These new box traps are doing a good job though. I moved two to a small wood and I’ve had 28 in 4 days. Yesterday I was working in the wood and emptied the traps 3 times picking up 12 in a single day . I had a full hose in this trap today .
  2. It feels ok to be honest. I’m not someone who is using it day in day out . I just need a reliable saw if there is a tree down over a track .

I would rather stick red hot pins in my eyes than give the BBC one penny .
  4. I asked the estate owner for a new chainsaw. My old husqvarna was getting unreliable and even after service was hard to start and keep running. I thought I’d get a sthil or husky but I got an oleo Mac . I’ve not heard of them before but I am very impressed so far . Has anyone else had any experience of them ? Are they reliable? Or has he got me a piece of crap .

I suppose they are saving themselves a job of screwing up and tossing the white peoples application in the bin and in the process saving paper, and ultimately a tree . Which ticks their saving the planet box . My daughter thinks she is clever , and had a good laugh at my expense on Father’s Day . I’m always moaning about how over represented black people are in adverts and in the media now . So you can imagine my horror when I opened my Father’s Day card and it was a picture of a “black dad “ on it . She said my face was a picture. Then as if to rub salt in my wounds, my present was
  6. You tend to see them in the daytime when it’s dry . I think it’s because they are hungry..... no worms about . I’ve watched them in the day and found they were digging up chafer grubs .
  7. Seriously, I go clay shooting whenever I can . I used to be competitive, now I just practice. I still love breaking clays , and love it when a few of us get together and have a bit of a competition between us . I’m off to Farmington quarry tomorrow morning. They have a few sort of crane things that Chuck the clays nice and high , great practice for pheasant. I think it what a lot of game shooters do in the summer , that and pigeon shooting .
  8. I would be on the lookout for permission on ground with livestock that doesn’t have standing crops .?
  9. I watched the lunchtime news today . I had a little chuckle to myself as I watched Macron getting off his plane . There to welcome him were some guardsmen, resplendent in their bearskins and red tunics . I wonder if it was deliberate as a f@ck you to the French ? The reason I say this as having been a member of the household division many years ago , we had to learn regimental history and the Grenadiers ( then the 1st Foot) took the Bearskins and their name off Napoleons defeated elite grenadiers at the battle of Waterloo. For my part I hope it was deliberate and that it wasn’t lost on the “
  10. I was always forgetting something, either on shoot days or going out fox shooting. So now I’ve got a laminated check list . Sounds a bit nerdy but it saves a lot of heartache and missed opportunities , and so far I haven’t forgotten anything.
  11. Can you imagine being married to her and you forget your anniversary? ?
  12. I can’t really see an application for scent when I’m shooting . It might draw in foxes and make them hang around long enough for a shot . But I just use it for snaring. I’ve tried all sorts , I’ve even cut out scent glands and made a paste with Vaseline , but even I baulk at that now .
  13. Just to extract as much juice as possible, I had a little paddle , it put me in mind of treading grapes ..... I kept my wellies on though , I’m not that daft ?
  14. Good luck Ben , this is a great time of year for us .?
  15. I thought I’d soak the dead foxes in a container. I squeezed their bladders into it as well. This will make some fantastic “ fox juice “ , I will put it in a spray bottle and use it near my snares . I’ve got to say it already stinks like a tramps jock strap. ?
  16. I’ve been waiting for the first silage cut of the year , but because of the weather and waterlogged fields it’s been a lot later than usual. I received a call on Saturday evening from a tractor driver to tell me that he was watching a vixen and Cubs playing on the grass he’d just cut . Now I know this guy and he is a bullshiter of the highest order and can’t lye straight in bed . So I took the information with a liberal pinch of salt . He’s a fox shooter himself and friends with another keeper. I know that he would be chuckling to himself thinking of me waiting for the imaginary Cubs . The pla
  17. Glad to hear you are up and about . Another nice buck .?
  18. I could have made this thread/ that story last 5or 6 pages , next time take us on your journey to success or failure. Only joking , good work Cragman ?
  19. If nobody is willing to give him a reference and if he’s got a police record of recent irresponsible or violent behaviour then he won’t ( or shouldn’t) be granted a certificate. No need to contact them. We all have our own moral code , and I for one wouldn’t be able to look the guy in the eye again if I’d been on the phone and bubbled him to the FEO . Remember he is a friend , ok a bit of a prick but still a friend . The police are very good at keeping records, ask anyone who has a DBS , they can Chuck up 30 year old driving convictions.
  20. Is it illegal to say Le chameau ? You a right the wellies are good and the leather boots aren’t. But the wellies aren’t what they used to be before they shipped production to Madagascar. Leather boots Meindl all the way .?Anyway the “Cheese eating surrender monkeys” can do one , I’m not buying anything from France anymore. I’m sick to death of their sour grapes over Brexit . Buy British , unless it’s made in Scotland, they can do one and all .?
  21. I’ve started to put snares out , and instead of having a few in each wood I’ve changed tactics and concentrated the amount of snares i put out in one wood . This just makes checking them easier and less time and fuel consuming. I then plan on rotating them around each wood . The plan is going well and on only the second morning in this particular wood my efforts were rewarded with a dog fox . I knew there was one about as I could smell him next to a Larsen trap , and could see where something had been flattening the vegetation around the trap as it circled the hapless call bird . I’ve got to s
