  1. I used to go ferreting every Sunday morning. There was a rule that we never put a net on a hole after 11.00am ...... we didn’t want a lay up that would interfere with our Sunday lunchtime pint (ok several pints) . I was driving a cortina estate at the time . We used to sell a lot of the rabbits we caught to the landlord and locals and subsidised our drinking thus . I went out to the back of the cortina to get some rabbits and I noticed that one of the Ferrett’s was out of his box , the catch was broken. To cut a long story short , the Ferrett had dragged a rabbit and pulled it into the central
  2. I’ve been fox shooting in Yorkshire twice and drew a blank . I went out recently in Northumberland and saw one running away. It’s a lot easier down in Gloucestershire , those moorland foxes are very wary.
  3. Those young rabbits make the best eating IMO .
  4. Thanks for doing a write up Si , very interesting and a great result . Have you got those 32grn bullets on the chronograph? Be interesting to push them a bit to see what works .
  5. Boys , I am old enough to have a good handle on this . I’ve known guys who went running..... cared about their diet . And guys that smoke drink and eat pure fat . I’ve known a lot of fit guys die or have strokes or Cancer in their 50s / early 60s . And guys that eat , drink , smoke what they want live long lives . Life my friends is a lottery , our bodies are an amazing engine . You can , with a good wholesome lifestyle live a lot longer.... but is it worth it ? I’ve heard the expression, I would rather live one day as a lion than 100 years as a mouse . The answer t
  6. I don’t think it’s a bell . Looks like a weight to me . Got me thinking, ?, what in this digital age could he be using a weight for ????

  8. This is g to he best laugh I’ve had for ages . Totally non PC , but Kieth wouldn’t have it any other way ?. Glad you are doing ok IWW . And get the f-cking kettle on???
  9. I find cobs all throughout the woods , squirrels can carry a cob a long way .
  10. I just push the trap in the wheat a bit so it’s level, but to be honest they will climb over their dead friends to get the wheat , they are dumb .
  11. Same here DB , had a Larsen hidden away in a pheasant pen , way , way, off the footpath . Released the call bird and flung in the stingers.
  12. No mate , there are 4 entry points, and yes they are mk 4 springers ( cheap Chinese copies)
  13. Been doing some squirrel control on the shoot . I’ve got some traps going , and they are hitting some of the pheasant feeders . I can see a red letter say happening soon .
  14. I’d be interested to put some money on you missing that crow . Really Meece ? we are just having a bit of a nostalgic walk down memory lane. And I think most of us are ..... as kids say nowadays “ keeping it real” . It’s not a dick measuring competition FFS .
  15. I think Bens been in the beer garden all afternoon.??
  16. “Fishing , Ferreting and football”. My mum used to say hat was all I was interested in . And being a Gloucester boy , football was second to Rugby, so my football career never took off . So I pursued fish and rabbits, and anything that flew or scurried around was fair game . My first gun , if you can call it that was a Gat gun . I soon learned about bullet drop using one as you could see the pellet leave the barrel and plop about 20 yards . Then I got a BSA meteor and that rifle shot 1000s of pellets. I had a paper round and I think I spent most of my wages at Fred Harvey’s or Allsports or F
  17. The ground I am talking about is now the 417 mountain bike park. It was on a hillside that was basically cattle grazing. It had a couple of small woods , a ditch with a stream , patches of bramble , tussocks of marsh grass , reeds , hedges . It was also not far from pheasant shoots . It was probably about 400 acres . It also neighboured a newly planted wood which I used to also shoot the deer and rabbits and squirrels. Lots of my old dogs are buried up there and I think I’d like my ashes scattered up there with them , in a place I spent many a happy hour in their company.
  18. I miss my spaniels and a walk about a bit of rough ground . I had a fantastic bit of rough shooting, years ago . Woodcock pheasant and rabbit , plus the odd fox . Life was much more simple and my sport less complicated. Why do we complicate things by getting involved with organised shoots ?
  19. That is an excellent post. And just about hits the nail on the head .?
  20. Anyway , happy St George’s day to all the THL members.
  21. I can imagine it . The violence would conveniently erupt near to an electrical goods outlet and off license.
  22. I’d cast Nicholas Lyndhurst as Kunta Kinte in a Roots remake .?
