Please don’t be offended by our dislike of the EU . For my part it is not aimed at the member states or it’s wonderful people, but I direct my disdain towards the overpaid bureaucrats in Brussels who made so many crazy laws and rules . There was a time when to buy British meant that it was the best in the world, those days are gone . I shoot Finnish rifles with German and Hungarian glass , American bullets , but if I could buy British that was as good I think I would . I am against a Federal Europe and would like to see all the countries of Europe free from Brussels and

So long , Adieu , auf wiedersehen , goodbye ? ?goodbye ??

I’m going straight in at 44 grains. I’ve found their data is very risk averse and over cautious.

I’ve got the exact same app ?

There is so much conflicting information out there . Some touch on the lands and back off a few thou , but if you do that with some bullets there won’t be enough bullet in the neck of the case . I should think if someone like Mike Norris says that , then it must be true .

I’ve got Vihtavuori 140 , 135 , and 130 at home . I’ve seen data for 135 and 140 . How far off the lands is that seating depth ?

Bullet availability problems

My .223 Vmax arrived from Bushwear via UPS yesterday. Pretty good service I’d say . The 50grn Vmax that I was able to get are moly coated . I’ve never used moly coated bullets before. I have googled a bit about it and from what I’ve read they help keep accuracy for longer without cleaning. Other opinions are that it decreases barrel life , others argue it extends barrel life . I’m going to reload a few , but not go straight in at the load I use now , just to be safe . Anyone got any thoughts on moly coated bullets ? -
The best value rifle out there . I’ve got the same rifle in the same calibre. I will be interested to read about more of your tests . I’ve some Barnes 58grn Varminator which I’m going to load . I’m going to try different seating depths and do a ladder test on the loads. These will be the lightest bullets I’ve tried in .243 .

I am always nervous when the birds first go to wood , especially when they are still tucked in the grass next to the wire . In the past foxes spook them and they jug over the fence and get nabbed . So far so good with the big pen . I stayed out with them the first two nights and on the second night shot two , but I’m still a bit cautious. I can’t be there 24/7 so I leave a radio on . I also put bits of rag soaked in aftershave dotted about . I find that doing this until they start to roost properly definitely helps . They had Talksport last night .

The estate I work on has a self employed guy that cuts grass , trims hedges, strims . In the winter they keep him going clearing and digging . But there are two “ maintenance “ workers who cut trees , fix fences , drive tractors etc . A chainsaw Lantra certificate would be good . The more versatile and willing to put your hand to anything, the more valuable you will be to an estate. On the other hand there was an old boy who worked here for years and all he would do was drive a tractor. So that is all he did, who’s the idiot ?

They’re good , but they’re not that good . However Clarkson and co tried to kill one and couldn’t. They did wonders for their second hand value.

I thought I’d better order some bullets . I use 70 grain Sierra Blitzkings in .243 and Hornady Vmax 50 grain . I looked at Spud 1967 …. Out of stock , I tried HPS TR ( my local shop) out of stock . Henry Krank , out of stock . I found the Vmax at Bushwear , but can’t get any Sierra Blitzkings . I had a chat to the guy from Henry Krank and everyone is waiting for a delivery from the US . It might be soon or it could be ages , he didn’t know . So I thought I’m going to try some light varmint bullets in my .243 and see how I get on . I’ve ordered some Barnes 58grain verminators . My

Oh yes , got a bit carried away with the 0’s , I’m assuming that it just looked wrong and that you didn’t spend what is a beautiful summer’s day going through posts , looking for mistakes, counting Zeros and taking the hapless mistake makers to task over their ineptitude…….. because that would be sad ?

I’ve tried to message you but for some reason it says you can’t receive messages.

I was on my way home and I literally thought this is it I’m going to have an “accident”, I was sweating and my stomach was in spasm, I screeched across the gravel drive and burst through the door and into the downstairs loo……. Heavenly!!!???

No more foxes . Just these two would be poult snatchers . A dog and a barren vixen .

A bit of an update. I’m sat outside the pen on my all night vigil the time as I write this is 3.39am and I’ve just shot the second fox of the night . My original plan was to put some fox juice out ( to get Charlie to stop and sniff, instead of just running) shoot the fox , then put a radio on to make a human noise to scare foxes, then go home to bed . Well it didn’t quite work out like that . The first part of the plan worked like a charm. Charlie entered the field and instead of running he stopped to sniff , and down he went . Unfortunately the sound of my .223 made about 50 poults fly out of

I couldn’t agree more . I had hoped it would be a balanced, ok , slightly right of centre channel that allowed common sense journalism to flourish. But it’s just like all the other sh@te.

I’m going to put a good dollop of my “ fox juice “ out in the middle . Hopefully he gets a whiff of it and stops long enough for me to deal with him. Like I always say I only have to get lucky once .

I thought I’d share the view from my truck this morning . I’m parked in the top corner with my back to the pen , which overlooks a 4 acre field which has recently been cut for hay . Apart from a badger and some deer it was a quiet night. I did however spot a fox which moved across the bottom hedge , but didn’t reappear, so there is one about. I dare say he will be along tonight. It usually happens on the second night . I’ve got to say these birds settled into the pen well and are back off the wire and by the look of it a lot are already roosting.

I see he has keyed the wall ready for his plastering lesson ?. Good luck after Charlie. I’m getting my head down . I put the seat back in the Hilux, I’ve got a quilt and a pillow, zzzzzz . Then if a fox starts bothering the birds I will hear it and be able to deal with it . ?

The rest of the birds arrived today. The game farmer held on to them for me so that they can be released in decent weather. They should have gone to wood 10 days ago so they were a little bit scruffier than he would have liked but I would rather that than release them to wood in the pissing down rain . All good so far . I’m sleeping in the truck next to the pen for the next couple of nights . If Charlie shows up he is in for a surprise.??
