Hw is more refined, rapid maybe agricultural by comparison, but ease of maintenance and solid engineering make it difficult to beat imo. I have both and can’t say which is better. They both have their own merits for me. Hw100 mag system is still the best of any pcp though imo.

You can’t go far wrong at that price Mark? -
Good shooting Eddy?

Good shooting Rob. Instead of sweetcorn, try lead pellets. They’ll be more accurate and carry energy better down range?

HMR Ammunition inconsistencies?
Rimfireboy! replied to Rimfireboy!'s topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thanks deker. I’ve used a brush and patched it out, then brush, then patches over and over until there’s nothing more coming out on the patches. Took me hours. It’s improved, but not as good as I’d hoped?. Flyers tend to spoil the group size every time. -
HMR Ammunition inconsistencies?
Rimfireboy! replied to Rimfireboy!'s topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Started at 60 yards last week but only managed 3/4 inch at best. After more barrel cleaning I managed the 100 yards five shot groups above. I’m reading on tinternet about 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards, and then other reviews suggesting 7 out of 10 inside an inch with 3 flyers being the hmr standard. I’ll carry on with it for a while, see how it goes, but I’m considering giving up on the calibre. Not sure yet due to mixed reviews and expectations. -

My thoughts exactly, just checking that I wasn’t expecting too much? -

Thanks deker, I’ve still got room for improvement then?thought I’d done better before with this rifle. It’s better results than last week, but I’d don’t know if I can get the barrel any cleaner. Maybe it is the ammo? -
HMR Ammunition inconsistencies?
Rimfireboy! replied to Rimfireboy!'s topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
After another cleaning session I think I’ve managed to get it back to something like. Shot a couple of five shot groups, 100 yards resting on a bag on the bonnet, very light breeze. Should it be doing better or is this about average as I’ve got used to better accuracy using centrefire and might be expecting too much now from the hmr? -
Good shooting Ron?

Great time you had billy. Still can’t beat the rapids imo??

I know a couple of people with t-bolts, the stainless varmint models and very accurate they are too. I know a lot of people dismiss hv .22’s, but if you find some that suit your rifle they’re obviously flatter flying and harder hitting than subs. I’ve found rws hv hp’s very good. Also Fiocchi hv hp accurate too. Federal classic hv hp as well at only three quid a box, excellent. It’s payed off for me, to try different brands over the years and it can throw up some surprising bargains, as with the federal’s. Different rifles will like different ammo of course.

HMR Ammunition inconsistencies?
Rimfireboy! replied to Rimfireboy!'s topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Yep, had a few myself and even this morning had a hangfire and a split case. That’s why I’m wondering about inconsistent ammo, and if it’s worth me bothering with the hmr anymore. -

Thanks for the replies. I was wondering if it was the ammunition, the rifle, or me, the fact that I haven’t really used it in a while because I’ve been bypassing the hmr and just used the hornet. Then when I go back to the short barrelled lightweight hmr, I’m just not used to shooting it at longer range like I used to? In fact, I was beginning to think about trading in for a new t-bolt to ‘solve’ the problem as it were?. More range time may be needed before I decide maybe??? -
Well, I took the little .17 out on Monday, first time in a while. I’d purchased some Winchester Varmint HV’s so thought I’d give them a try first at 100 yards. Imagine my chagrin to find that I couldn’t seem to shoot much better than 2 inch five shot grouping. Moving in to 60 yards, the best I managed was a couple of five shot groups at around 3/4 inch. Not too bad I suppose, but this was only at 60 yards. I wondered if I could be the ammo, but yesterday I spent two hours cleaning the bore. Out again this morning I started at 60 yards again. I had seven different ‘brands’ to try. I started off

I know you’re right, that’s the ‘problem’.......?

Like you say Stavross, it’s worth it if you know it’s going to give you the edge. £1.77 per fox is money well spent, no doubt about that ??

Excellent, I’ve got an hw100ks and it’s a good tool. I never intended to buy it though. Went in the shop for some ammo, and came out with the hw. No regrets on that though. I see livens have the crown in synthetic in store fac and sub 12. I’ve been trying to avoid buying another air gun but when I see them, who knows? If I had a spare slot already, I’d be in danger of a purchase I think, as it would have to be fac if I had a crown, because I think ? its potential would be too compromised in 12ft lb.? oh no, here I go again ?
