Well had the stitches out saw a proper vet tonight she knows working dogs including lurchers. She said the muscle on the inside of his leg is definitely detached and still swollen so no work for at least 4 weeks. Strict lead exercise only and build up the muscle. Build up walking then trotting. She gave me a bit of confidence when she said I know its frustrating at this time of year when he has plenty of interesting things to do. But with these dogs its all or nothing if he spots some thing and the leg would never hold up to it until its well healed. SHe also said his gait maybe a bit odd w

after seeing there super nuke on the news today I can see the world coming to a grim end one day http://metro.co.uk/2016/10/25/russia-unveils-new-super-nuke-the-satan-2-which-could-destroy-britain-twice-over-6213749/ Can't see the need for such monstrous weapons

Yes I thought about some thing like that though it sounded pretty heavy footed. Saying that mink are not small I have had plenty of bones out of my traps where they have eaten each other. But this was shaking the stuffing out of one. It sound just like a ferret when its got hold of some thing by the throat. I just couldn't picture a rat doing that. In hind site I should have just got in there and stopped being a wuss lol and lifted a tile. As at one point I could hear it walking over head. Handled most stuff when i was younger but confined spaces and rats flying around are not my thing

We have a few rats in work. Its a great big shed with a few offices built in down one side with polystyrene tiles and insulation. I have trapped quite a few but there is still plenty there. Any way a couple of the lad have said they heard some thing pretty big up in the roof once or twice. I thought they were just exaggerating and heard a pitter pat of your normal rat. This afternoon then I am working away with the radio on when all of a sudden i hear some thing in the roof above and it was bloody big sounds like a jack russle up there lol. Then I heard a hell of scuffle going on so went ou

Yes it don't pay to sneak along some else's path -
You need to avoid any ground that has got potential disaster written all over it he says Only so much you can do but some times worth popping a lead on till you clear some lethal looking fence if you suspect some thing might be about. I was lamping a few weeks ago and the rabbit ran completely the opposite direction it should gone went through the gate onto a track and started head to a cattle grid. All out the beam I could hear the dog blasting down the track. I was bricking it and expecting 4 broken legs but lucky it hit the hedge before it got there. Only so much you can do

Terry, I think you hit the nail on the head there. I'm beginning to think that in many situations having a lurcher covering a warren is almost being over-gunned. Like you, I haven't got the luxury of big open ground buries, and have to rough it, so a little cross-bred marking dog sat in the thick of a hedge waiting for that bolter that run's the top of the hedge is just what I need, and nowadays there is such a choice of purpose bred litters there's something for all tastes. very trued spoiled for choice now a days with a multitude of crosses out there and thanks to the web being ab

I think for ferreting you only need a little marking dog. You can cover all the bases with various types of nets so you won't miss many. ANy you do the dog can get its snout down and find to ground again. I only got a lurcher because its nice to be able to lamp during the week where as a terrier type would only see work at weekends

You couldn't ask for more really great start and its only going to get better I imagine

yes double check for your nets like jok says. I spent the summer knitting some nice nets. First trip out this year I used them. Thought i had picked them all up and a couple weeks later passing the holes. I saw one of luminous pink nets left on a hole. How the hell I missed it i never know. Try and put bands round them now and slip on me wrist that seems to work for me now

Decided today to turn over one of the one ton bags of compost as per the instructions. Been putting it off as I expected a mass of weed roots but got a nice surprise. Once I scrapped the top off with the courgettes it was good stuff. Come spring then I can just throw it back on capped with cardboard and bit of tin till the spring. Definitely do more of that bit of turning over cabbages too far gone now much prefer small tender ones last of the squashes -
there you go your sorted thats a better result than i get when i go lol

Well I am amazed how quick his healing up. Carried the leg slightly for couple of days but that was it. Quite happy to spin about now if i was to let him and trot around. I can't believe there was any muscle damage really as its got better so quick. Stitches out tuesday then I will jog him for a mile or two if that goes well maybe contemplate a bit of ferret next weekend. Some where safe lol. our stroll this evening with the rope to keep him steady My pet hate a mark when we have no ferret doh. Wouldn't normally praise a mark but seeing as i was going to drag him away shortly

Yea I am the same. At the start I thought that lurchers buggered off lol then it came back with a rabbit. That will teach me The dogs do well fair play

Great bit of fun couldn't ask for more. Excellent video as all ways

This bust a gut attitude must also come into its own if your lucky like the folks up north getting them huge numbers. A dog giving rabbit number 70 or what ever just as mush effort as it gave no 1
