  1. your a lucky man then ive heard of lots of such cases Heard or witnessed? as I can't help think its highly unlikely that it happens very often if at all unless in very unusual instances.
  2. Yep no probs,, feck it 2 lads,,, once in a lifetimes opertunity,,,£ 500,,, a nights lamping and days ferreting that's 250 each lad ,,,, any takers. Does that include breakfast?? if so put me down for 4 days Yes but it's a ginsters peppered stake slice............. No expense spared on Tomo's hunting holidays
  3. Great post, good luck to you and Celt The hunting genes a strong thing, it may fade a bit now and again but only to come back brighter than ever
  4. What I am saying is most are going to happen anyway, due to arsed up sticking rabbits and stop ends etc. I agree if the poor fecker is staving and not been fed for days of course its going to eat at first opportunity , but who seriously works there ferrets in a state like that?.
  5. I don't really buy into "if a ferret has food in its belly or not will prevent lie ups", a good ferret wants to kill rabbits whether fed or not there murderous little buggers by nature. Most lie ups are arsed up rabbits which simply don't want to bolt for a number of reasons. I don't believe lie ups are caused because the ferret decides it wants to chow down on a coney as its hungry. In my fairly limited experience it just wants to kill the rabbit, and often will move on again.
  6. All I can say is they must of been bloody starving, I don't think I have see heard or know anyone who has dug down to a ferret curled up having 40 winks in a warren?
  7. Are you serious? I have never heard of a ferret falling asleep in a warren, for that matter I dont think I have ever had a ferret eat a rabbit in a warren, kill them yes but eat and fall asleep, nope...
  8. I always starve them of bread and milk slops and work them with muzzles it works for me...... Never feed rabbit either as it makes them kill. I am amazed this sort of old twaddle still comes up, there is no need to starve a ferret before working maybe a great big feast on the morning before a big day is not the best idea, just feed as normal .
  9. Also the mk1 was terrible for interference from wire especially electric fences. The mk3 is much better but a iPhone does play them up abit.
  10. I don't think the mk3 are too bad and the range is very useful when working rough land, much more use than the mk1, just could do with accuracy being improved. I don't think the locator is the problem but the collars. The best collars Deben made were the mk3 grey collars, don't get hooked up on nets, pretty robust the only downside is the fact they are not 100% waterproof. The grey mk1 8ft is ok but poor in comparison too the mk3 especially for lads doing big hedges and deep warrens etc.
  11. Get a locator and collars, pick your hedges if working alone, and invest in some stop nets or pokes to lay through the hedge as well as long nets or pursenets. Ps) Warrens are where rabbits live, whether in a hedge or a hillside, its all warrens. Good luck
  12. 3 rabbits in 3 hours...lol jesus

  13. Great stuff, I can remember the buzz of going out at around his age lamping with my father. Stumbling around in the dark trying to be quiet. I still get the same buzz 30 odd years later!
  14. Great haul and like others have said I hope I am still going at his age! Re: digging, well I don't like leaving them either but most of my sandy West Country warrens run upto 15ft plus so you just have to leave them. I work anything upto 10 ferrets on these warrens you just can't move them otherwise! Horses for courses. Great post, hope me and leveller get a few ourselves tomorrow!
  15. Nice part of the world fellas, i have spent a bit of time in moama, shepperton and bendigo!
  16. Not too bad so far, same size tallys as the same places last year according to my diary. Time to get out there and crop them now before any mixy raises its head.
  17. It's great stuff as a bulker, I use it as about 50% of my dogs daily allowance of food. No food is fine solely fed on its own, and when feeding raw food variation and having the 'eye' to know your dogs is the key to success We used to mince up 6-8 at a time plus hearts, flesh and tongues etc. I am currently using commercially prepared tripe/chicken mince, which IMO is nowhere near as good, but Like Chalkwarrens says, its getting harder to get hold of good suppliers of green tripe and other bits.
  18. Nice little pup mate, I knew Merle would come back into fashion again  should win some rosettes with her
  19. Boomerangs!, never had that, but then again I don't walkout hunting with sketchy types, just good trusted mates.

It's akin to watching paint dry sadly these days, old site, no new blood, but not many divvy posts. But in-between the tumble weed rolling past you get the odd decent thread, which no one seems to reply too .......It was the best forum on the net for many years I had some good craic on there and made some good mates/friends/wronguns
  21. Traditional stylee on foot with a lamp and dog. I don't like the lamp and car combo much myself and it doesn't work well in my local area, too many hills mud.
  22. Cant say too much but I think they enjoy it
  23. Needless to say, I promptly began mangling the yam.
