  1. Nice couple of sessions. Some great snaps also.
  2. I have found that the larger ones are often more productive, yes more preparation laying nets and only work well if you have enough nets and ferrets to really get the rabbits rattled. And fingers crossed for no deep digs Yeah the covers pretty beaten down now here now, well as good as it gets. But if you leave it much longer the nettles will be on there way up again ! Will start the hedges around christmas until the end of the season.
  3. Wednesday was a return visit to a piece of land that I control rabbits on which we have around 4 or 5 days a year. The session was due to be a short one as I had places to be so had to be finished up and on the way home for 1pm. I also only had 5 ferrets to work today and just my nets as my mate is lacking in ferrets and nets currently so we were only able to do the small/medium size warrens which are up to 50 odd hole places which didn’t need huge volumes of ferrets and nets. We started at first light around 7.30 with both dogs marking a bigish place but it was easy enough to encircle with t
  4. Don't force the ferret to ground, it will Go when its ready, often best to let them have a look around on a warren and let them enter the hole they want rather than the one you select. Just chill I am sure it will happen a high percentage of ferrets work to some degree. Good luck Sirius
  5. Apparently he spends alot of time poking bushs looking for holes..... pervert
  6. It's sacrilege....... Yanks don't do British humour, and this is proof of it....
  7. That's hunting once it's in your blood it will always be there, we sometimes take a break, but always return to it. Jigsaw I hope the rabbit numbers improve for you next year.
  8. Nice book great photos, but I agree I rarly look at it or go back to it for reference. I have it if truth be told as a investment and edition to my collection.
  9. Maybe you should of voted Tory and things 'may' have been different Chartpolski ........
  10. Proper Job there Nobby, Thats what I prefer Hardwood pegs
  11. Some tidy looking pups there people  Good luck with them all. Good Hunting Sirius
  12. If the grey collar is the older MK3 type with thick collar I will take it for £40
  13. A shaped Hard wood peg is the best IMO, soft woods just rot or snap and if not shaped, leave you with some pretty sore palms on a frosty morning, unless you have hairy palms like myself
  14. It's all about 'quality time' ......out hunting lol
  15. Yeah cheers for that messer, and how was work today??
  16. Your lucky i didnt post a pic of the sore bollocks in question  Out again in the week if I get time I will post how we get along
  17. Yep I dont think many could fail to net a open warren, It aint all like that though... No its a bitza this and that and everything else, bu has a fair blob of collie in there.
  18. Well the weather at the MET office said that we would have rain by 1pm which was all it took to ring up swifthunt and get things arranged to tackle a big warren I have been wanting to do for a while. We were on the frosty hillside just before 8am, and netting up for 10 past once we got the truck close enough that is (didn’t want to be moving all the gear too far especially as I was hoping for a reasonable tally of rabbits today, optimism lol) The hill side warren was one of the bigger ones we do, its best part of 100 yard long and 40-50 yards wide, it’s an old place and has some deep areas a
  19. Sorry to hear this bloody terrible, as others have said its a hard old game on the dog rabbiting a lot. I often get the feeling many Lurcher folk who dont do much rabbiting forget how many knocks and bloody hard shifts a rabbit dog goes though in its lifetime. All the same mate a great bag and I hope your trusty hound makes a good recovery, he looks a cracker ;-)
  20. I agree Nighthawk, each to there own and I don't think its a hardcore view at all, but I would see no enjoyment going ferreting on masse making a load of noise, give me a couple of people who know the score every time which leads (from my experience) a far more enjoyable and effective way of ferreting. Same goes for most hunting, fishing etc except foxhunting or coursing, but even then I always preferred the quiet days.
  21. Have you not found the pin pointer? Pre the pointer I used to tape over the speaker. Complicated? Once you've mastered it, try opening a packet of biscuits for a real challenge. @ Tug......
  22. Keep them in a sealer bag and they all touch, they still last months!
  23. Also don't stress or push the dog, relax and make it fun.
