  1. pre ban i was taking 30 -40 a season but done a lot of travelling up over the border to find them most were lamped from motor as we just drove round the country lanes in the look out for them we jacked in when we started to take foxes that had been released by rescue centres as they didnt stand a chance
  2. its great to see sensible replies now and again
  3. sounds like a canny cross to me lads
  4. i owned a 1st cross collie greyhound that came from working farm in yorkshire the grey hound bitch was an irish bred bitch that had to be retired through a minor injury and 5 pups were born all collie coloured and all went to local lads here in north east, there was no wastage in this litter i can say with all honesty they were either 1st class rabbiting dogs or in my case fox deer dog,[pre ban] my dog glen was still doing teeth at the grand old age of 12 and would pull a fox from an earth with the same ease as any bull cross i was caught lamping one night by plod whilst dog was in full flig
  5. i think mixy is the lenght of the country at the moment mate worst ive seen in many years up here in north east
  6. like this post lads as the pure collie disnt get enough mention in the lurcher world, i too owned a cattle dog that i only got as a guard dog /family dog but this dog regulary took fox [pre ban ] when we went out for a mooch and he too was a master at the ferreting /ratting scene the one thing he excelled at was his protection of my daughter whom he would have laid his life on the line for and for that im truly gratefull to have owned such a dog he passed away last year at the grand age of 17
  7. an all rounder is exactly what it says on the tin ! every one does things differently ie some lads are pure rabbit hunters others hares etc then theres lads that go for every type of quarry from deer /teeth right down to a days ratting probably even taking the odd pheasant along the way thats the kind of dogs we owned in the ,s
  8. it seems a bit over the top but sometimes the rules get broken in all the excitement if they were young lads im sure in time they will come to realise that 4 dogs is over the top ,but personally speaking i wouldnt lose any sleep over it mate atb billy
  9. yourspot on there stabba most vets just see £ signs these days lost my cocker bitch recently [and her pups] £1800 out of pocket didnt have insurance [my choice] got nowt to show for all that cash and heartache
  10. have to agree with lab tastic on this one that" red" stuff on papers can be a waste of ink good working lines would be my choice as thats what i did with my little cocker [sadly died]
  11. haway lads dont start an argument over a couple of rabbits [its always nice to make a clean kill ie head shot ,but it doesnt always happen]
  12. i owned a cracking collie mate and was asked to put it over a lads whippet, not my type of lurcher mind you as i was into the bigger dogs collie x greyhound type, anyway back to the subject on collie x whippet the litter that came from my collie turned into some of the best rabbiting dogs i ever saw they were well tessted by the lads who ended up with them and were used for all sorts of lurcher work ie ferreting ratting lamping and even a few hare courses so my opinion would be "go get one mate" and im sure you will enjoy it-billy
  13. as has been said its all about the size of the individual dogs HEART ive also witnessed a few big dogs "cock" on charlie yet seen whippet crosses get the job done
  14. a few pics of the stolen dogs would be a help to incase your out in car etc and spot one being walked
  15. well brian ,if i was you i would take your wee mate into the woods and give him a fecking good hiding for writing that stuff about a lads bairn .this forum is going down the pan lads with horrible statements like that -rant over billy
  16. i had a 1st x collie greyhound that caught and retrieved a fully grown fox at 11 months old took deer at 12 months and became a prolific fox dog i wasnt that much into deer but he did put a few quid in my back pocket now and then
  17. i had never used a gun dog before as i always had lurchers terriers etc i was given a cocker pup and although i found it a bit trying at times i loved watching the cocker work i wouldnt go as far as saying there really hard to train mind you as my little bitch was quite easy .so if you know the basics im sure your keeper friend will guide you through the most important aspects good luck mate
  18. What a prick i just bet this lad /boy wished he hadnt wrote that silly statement eh?
  19. ive been reading this post for a while now lads and i think it should be put to bed as it isnt serving any purpose whatsoever.just be men about it and agree to disagree-billy
  20. Well said my thoughts exactly! some very insensitive people on this site
  21. had loads of gear taken off us by the plod back in the 80s we just let them keep it as if we werent bothered ,it used to piss them off when we said"we"ll just buy some more tomorrow" some coppers were ok with us others were dick heads but thats life .i wouldnt change my young poaching days for nowt it was a great era for me and me mates [north east]
  22. yes i agree its so satisfying watching your dog work [ive to start all over again after losing my cocker bitch ]
  23. i was talking to a keeper friend on sunday and the spinone came up,one lad said he saw a pup that was well trained but he had saw an adult dog that was a liability so it hard to think of them being useful. mind you there a fine looking animal
