  1. i own a cocker mate and i would advise against it ,like has been said they need total commitment or it would destroy your flat which would annoy you hence you wouldnt like the dog as much and they dont take to being told off very well or man handled.outside in a kennel with a run is what i would do [mines outside] but good luck whatever you do as there great little dogs
  2. went to allotment again last night with the rapid as im trying to take my mind off my little dog being out of action for a while,i took a few woodies from 25-30yds and picked a bit of fruit and veg while i was there, one of the woodies fell into a bit of long grass nettles etc and even tho i was right next to it i nearly lost it.thats where my little dog would have just went in picked it up and put it in my hand
  3. just go for a bed x whippet or a collie x whippet mate but most lurchers make good ferreting dogs if taken out enough

    gutted!

thanks for being gutted with me it helps to know people understand what a good dog means to a person,i will get her operated on and will see how it goes but either way she wont be going to another home she stays with my family for life
  5. my pregnant cocker spaniel [hope so any way]developed a bit of a limp a week or so ago and i thought nowt of it and just gave her a few short walks a day hoping it would heal up .well i thought this is nt getting any better so off to the vets i went ,her knee cap is jumping out of its socket and needs an operation pins put in etc £1000,they cant do nowt while she is pregnant so i just have to wait ,to say im gutted is an understatment as this little dog is a fantastic worker and im told she wont be the same ever again ,it looks like early retirement for her,i cant sleep thinking why her? the
  6. IF THE ABOVE DONT WORK TAKE A FRIEND WITH YOU AND TELL DOG TO STAY IF IT MOVES TELL THE FRIEND TO JERK THE LEAD AND REPEAT THE STAY WORD,I PERSONALLY WOULDNT WORRY MATE ITS A YOUNG DOG IT WILL GET THE MESSAGE SOONER RATHER THAN LATER AND COCKERS DO LOVE TO BE NEAR THERE OWNER ,GOOD LUCK
  7. i just knew it wouldnt take long for this thread to go daft lol
  8. well most gun dogs will have champs in mine has but a field trial dog can come out ov eney litter id say as long as it is steady to game and stops when its asked i think its down to good training and strong bond to its hangler two working as one iv seen dogs work well that dont even have a pedigree ie sprockers so buy whot you whont and train it well I wouldn't buy a pup with no history, and i would want some good dogs in the line etc, but you have to remember that field trial dogs WERE NOT bred to do a full days beating etc, they were bred to work flat out, full steam, giving EVERYTHIN
  9. well i just knew this thread would go down hill Fast clucky old boy pack in when the times right ps i think i might know you if you from mackem land
  10. Thanks Skycat. I`ve seen Hancocks website, but never heard of Collie curs. Will check them out today. this is my first cross from years past and couldnt fault him on any prey he lived for it and was a good family dog and an even better gaurd dog ,a few keepers were on the end of his teeth when they got a bit heavy handed lol
  11. totally agree with above coments
  12. only ever used acupel with my rapid 7 but different rifles like different pellets mate, what ever pellet gives you accuracy and a thwack! behind it should be ok in my opinion

  14. hi there every one ,i mated my bitch 4 weeks ago and my dog has went a bit lethargic in her general self as she is normally very very active .is this normal or should i be worried
  15. well the name retriever means they are great at retrieving but a 7 year old dog might be another thing mate.but theres no harm in trying is there? i would just throw a ball or a sock and if the dog even picks it up and carries it your on to a good thing .if it does the above just go down to the dogs level and make a right fuss it normally makes the dog want to investigate the [fuss] then if the dog comes to you give it a treat and end the game. next day do the same but do it once more then end it .after a week or so you should see results ,if not either persevere or just admit the dog is spo
