Well after going out last night with the longnets and having a pretty poor return for our efforts[14 rabbits] Jimmy and I headed out again seeing as the conditions were ideal, very strong winds and the odd bit of light rain. Jimmy wanted a to shoot so he brought his AA S410 along and I as usual took Amy.The first two fields were dissapointing with only the 1 rabbit which Amy accounted for going into the game bag. The third field had quite a lot of rabbits in it but they were mostly lamp shy,we did get in range on one of them and Jimmy knocked it over good style.Amy caught another 2 in t

With the wind howling and rabbits required Jimmy,Tam and I headed out to drop the nets.We arrived my permission at 10pm and were soon in the field to be netted. Jimmy put the end pin of the 100 yarder into the ground and I started walking it out as Jimmy pegged up behind me.All was going well untill the top cord went slack it had snapped,we managed a quick fix and carried on,only for the cord to break again further along. Once again we sorted it as best as we could and finally got the net ran out. Next we ran out a 50 yarder then a 30 yarder without any hiccups.I left Jimmy and Tam a

I've a mate that works for the AA and he'll agree with everything that's been said. They have made drastic cuts to their workforce which inturn means they have to make cuts in the quality of the service they provide. He is now travelling further from his base each day because of the shortage of staff, which obviously means a longer waiting time for everyone that breaks down.

Well done lads, that's a good bag for the conditions. How are the dogs bred Tomo, collie crosses?
-
If you think about it from the opposite side minion yes it must make a difference. For example if you had a pure greyhound bitch and you wanted to breed litter out of her to race [say on the flaps ] you would put a pure greyhound across her as you are after pure pace.If you put her to a 3/4 grey,1/4 collie you'd definately lose some pace, even though they'd be 7/8th greyhound. So I'd say yes an eighth can make a difference.

There's always one, isn't there. Mind you, they say every village has one.

Hotdog can I ask how the pups bred, the reason I ask is in one of you posts yesterday you said it was Dam- beddiewhippit X Sire- greyhound beddiebeddie Was the sire a half cross or a reverse 3/4 cross?

The dogs can see the rabbits no problem with the red filter on. I do the same as coney catcher, the bitch goes down the beam with the red filter on then when/if the rabbit starts to run I flick the filter up and use the white light.

Once again great action shots, keep them coming.

It's good to see the youngsters out with the dogs and ferrets. Well done.

I went out again with Amy to the same fields as I lamped last thursday night. It wasn't such a good night there was next to no wind and it certainly wasn't as dark. That didn't seem to make any difference however as Amy accounted for 7 rabbits tonight,1 more than thursday.

You're right minion we can't force the kids to go out with us all we can do is give them the oppertunity. My eldest,Dylan would go out lamping at every chance he had. Declan only goes once in a blue moon, yet Declan loves sitting down to a plate of rabbit and tatties, while Dylan won't eat rabbit. When I was gutting the rabbits last night Declan kept saying is that one for my tea dad? Thanks for the comments lads.

I decided to get out early with Amy tonight in the hope of getting some runs before the moon got up.I asked my sons if they wanted to come with me,Dylan the eldest is always keen and he said yes straight away.Declan who is more into sports especially football doesn't usually come but tonight I got a surprise when he said he'd come along. I told them we wouldn't be out for long and that's the way it turned out,we only did 4 fields. The first field was a stubble field and held no rabbits at all. The second field was also stubble,Amy had 3 runs and managed to get them all,one of them was

The dog looks in good order mate. Any info on him? Age,breeding, size also what is his game.

Duckwing you talk a lot of sense,I know 'cos I've been there.I've yet to see someone bring on 2 pups or young dogs at the same time and do them justice. I'm not saying it can't be done Even when you have 2 working lurchers in the kennel it's very seldom that both dogs are of equal ability. So what happens? Usually if your only taking the 1 dog out for a quick shine or whatever you'll take out your best/favourite dog. So obviously if that dog is out more than the other it can only get even better than your other dog You might not even realise you are doing this but it does happen.

A few years back after an old firm game in Glasgow the mounted polis were trying to keep the fans of Rangers and Celtic seperated. A mounted polecewoman was trying to get some fans to move along a bit quicker, one of the fans noticed her horse was sweating a lot so he mentioned this to the policewoman. Her reply-"you'd be sweating too if you were between my legs."

i'll take your word for it, so until final jabs its a no go. what about getting him introduced to rabbits, whats the best age to get him out there on it? cheers Don't you think your missing something here Brian? Your wanting him outside before he's finished his jabs then your wanting to know about the age for introducing him to rabbits. What happened to the obedience training and bonding with the pup stage, IMHO the pup shouldn't be seeing any rabbits for a wee while yet. He's only 11 weeks old mate plenty of time for rabbits when he's older.

I had phoned the landowner last night and was going to have a shine after I got back home from a committee meeting of the local fishing club. But when I came out of the meeting the wind and rain had stopped The full moon made it like daytime so I had to cancell. It was a different story tonight though, There was light rain with plenty of cloud cover so Amy headed out for a look in the fields. There were a decent number of rabbits out tonight but all of them were lamp shy which ended up with Amy having some quite long runs. Added to that the grass was short and the rabbits knew their w

This full moon lark must be everywhere We had one as well. I phoned up a landowner at 6pm [it was a wild night then] and told him I would be up after I had been at a committee meeting of the fishing club. When I got home at 9.30pm the clouds had gone and the wind had dropped away added to that it was freezing. Never mind, there's always tonight. Well done REW,keep at it pal.
