there is a section on here written by wild rover-(starting a pup lamping.) which will be good experience for your pup before the real thing. go to articles then categories then working dogs and you will find it there. it will be good practise for the pup. good luck for the future with the pup.

a good few years i would think. start a lurcher breeding kennels. thats what hancock did with his land when his poultry buisness went bust. breed bull crosses all the rage these days.

my mate had beddy crosses 30 years including some beddy whippets. made good little ferreting dogs also good little hunting up mooching dogs.seen them take feather on occasion. as for yapping they do have a reputation for this. my mate always took his time and tried to give them easy catches. starting them off ferreting holding rabbits in the net and progressed from there. never seen any of his dogs yap. his beddy/whippets were only used daytime .have seen a few with a stubborn streak and some not.a good little rabbiting dog in the right hands.

Didnt see this grey run but he was my mates dads dog. who ran on local flapping tracks and was used as a one for the pot dog in the 70s. there was always rabbits and hares hanging up in the shed. he had him years. and no its not me in the pic wearing a bay city rollers outfit.

ive only seen 1 greyhound bitch used in the field over the last 20 odd years. a ex flapper when fit she took daytime hares in my area on big open fields and could manage a lot more than 2/3 turns of a hare and quite often she didnt need to. certainly couldnt compare with a saluki based dog stamina wise, but you could go out with her and get a hare for the pot and her owner was happy with that.

this probably wont help you at all but i have seen a 1st edition lurchers and longdogs by walsh for £20.00. a 1st edition of rogues and running dogs £35.00. you can get reprints of the above books ie the fell terrier is £22.45. but your 1st edition should get a good price. its getting someone intrested. some people like 1st editions ,sell to a book seller and a poor price is usually offered.

ive seen it happen too many times and the dog gets passed on again . one bloke near me must have gone through about 4 dogs a year and this went on for years. each one was going to be the next great thing. a grade 1 muppet.
