The lads as sound as they come,if the dog does not suit ill guarantee he will not leave it hanging.Few folk have a terriers true interest at heart,i don,t need to stick up for this lad and the values he and i share are lost on the majority of Bedlington owners.WHEN you have owned and grafted a PROPER Bedlington, then you may have an understanding of what they offer to a working kennel that no other terrier does and you will never be without one.I possibly understand better than most why the mutt may need a new home,if i wanted a Bedlington that was better than the average dross, they rarely beco

I get my terriers out and about from a very early age,i take advantage of their dependence on the owner and the comfort they seek from being in close proximity to the said owner,i use this as a major part of their education and it pays dividends later on when i wish to call a terrier in and control its hunting endeavours.

Nope, the owner is one of the small minority that shares my Beddy values, thats enough for me.

Thats the difference between what some see as a fox dog,one that earns its stripes from the speed of a 4x4 and the harsh glare of a lamp and a dog that can use its nose, eye and pace to account for a fox that the average fox dog will never encounter.A good fox dog does all the work itself a fox slayer is seldom capable of working on its own merits.

Does the bitch work below?.

As you well know mucker its far more difficult to source the right home for a terrier than a bad-un.Ill nearly guarantee that any feckwit chancer wishing to be the next owner of a ready made grafter will not end up with this dog.Any genuine type soul interested in a maiden Beddy ownership should make their intentions lucid on a post like this, the dog will not suit many a kennel, fact, yet the kennel it ends up in will rarely be without a Beddy,in the future.

Plummer Cross Bedlington Terrier
morton replied to low plains drifter's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Not all his Bedlingtons where big,its a fact that some lines of bedlington are renowned for throwing oversized mutts that are unfit for purpose, many of these unfit for purpose dogs are underground workers in many a working kennel??????,The vast majority of working bred Bedlingtons, then and now, where higher on the leg than the average terrier,as were the lakeys and fells in the not to distant past. There is a massive difference between a leggy terrier that is suited to work below and a much heavier, barrel chested, wide shouldered megapileofshit, thats incapable of entering, even if it wants to.Newc -
I swapped a very useful lamping lurcher for a pup in the early ,s,from Donny area, worked it with the lurchers and terriers, kids pet and guard dog and let it roll at times,i loved owning her,id never ever own another, fecking destructive.Ill guarantee you roger it will haunt your kennel. chris couldn t be worse than the alaunts those sods destroyed everything, i used to take bo out for a walk with 10ft of 4x2 come home with pallet blocks you never seen jaws like it, she d bite straight through 4x2 some bloke at a show gave us a indestructible toy she destroyed in within a minute bite straig

Id not interfere with nature to much, keep an eye on it and make sure its being kept clean, attempt to stop the mutt running to hard on it will be clear within the time frame you stated.

When you say land to you mean the terrian ?? What's the deer hounds favorable land to run on ?? Having never seen a genuine pure run other than on film, I've not got much knowledge of them. Ive seen a few hybrid lurchers with a strong DH influence and they were canny dogs on edible quarry and would get in to foxes but were not out & out fox slaying lurchers.. The main reason Deerhoundy lurchers gained favour with me is because they could run on the roughest and most unforgiving terrain with the same aptitude that the average lurcher ran on meadow and a fox was pish in their re

Many, many years ago i ventured North with a mucker seeking a Saluki from the Shap area,at the time the Deerhound Coursing club, because of diminishing membership, was taken over by the Saluki ownership, the Deerhounds were still allowed to compete,do any folk on here have an input into any of that? and how did it fizzle out.The saluki he brought back was a dumb fecker, killed hares and bunnys with aplomb, then spent at least 10 minutes refusing to retrieve each and every one,for 7 years.

A mate owned a dog that levelled out at 34",to much height on Deerhounds was KC influenced, the thing is that big lumbering lump amazed me on more than one occasion, picking up bunny,s in the lamp.Totally agree that the majority bred without a working history,or working use.

Im possibly the same as the majority on here, never knew him, never owned one of his mutts and was never influenced by him,yet i still managed,as many, many, many others managed to do,grafted a Deerhoundy to its potential, then bred a litter or two and grafted them the same.

I like to see a mutt working early season nettles,if they will enter them, many a busher refuses, they will enter anything, geez they sting.

Do any of them own Deerhoundy,s with a touch of Collie in the mix?.

I see where you are coming from Socks, the trouble is that the average bushing jukel will cover numerous ground scenarios in the practice of a days ratching about,a useful busher will work them all,be that Spaniel, terrier,Beagle or any combo of each.At the end of the day its about individual preference which is often dictated by our first bushing experiences.I prefer terriers because they should be able to graft above and below with the same commitment, others don,t want the trouble of an entered terrier and have a kennel to suit. I completely understand what a busher has to do mate ... Iv'e kep

I've little interest in getting a spaniel but happy to be educated as to their benefits over my terrier, if there are any. Land that hold lots of badger setts can be a nightmare for free running terriers. That's why I like this Plummer, she has learnt to stay above and doesn't drop in unless told. I owned a red fell that would await my command to drop in,she was worth her weight in gold on certain ground, the vast majority of bushing terriers will enter,if they don,t its because they don,t have the minerals for it.Its knowing the land and how to hunt it,leash the mutt and bypass the land or

One of the best dogs ive ever owned around kids, she,d not let any stranger approach the kids,a curled lip and snarl was sufficient.I remember my daughter at less than 18 months of age torturing the mutt endlessly, pulling, tugging and poking it,the dog rolled over and never once showed any aggressive inclination.I know the type you associate the breed with, many a mutt they owned was more American KC than anything else.
