Bad Advice In An Airgun Magazine?
pianoman replied to secretagentmole's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Only these mags could produce three pages of text on where to find a pellet headsize. Anything but the commonsense answer; "Turn the feckin' tin over!" John Darling must be spinning in his grave! -
Bad Advice In An Airgun Magazine?
pianoman replied to secretagentmole's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Your shooting is a personal affair. It's up to you how honest you are with yourself as to your ability to shoot accurately at whatever distance you can. But Rabbit attracting spray? Cheapo 50 quid springers and their shitty cheap tru-glo sights as good as Weihrauch, Air Arms and Diana? What a load of bullshit! More myths and legends are proffered as fact by these mags than anything. As Rabbits see in poor, fuzzy monochrome and then, only when things move (that's why they can sense and hear footfall and smell human scents at fantastic distances) , any green disruptive cammo pattern clothin -
Bad Advice In An Airgun Magazine?
pianoman replied to secretagentmole's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I gave up buying the Mags centuries ago. Nothing but a repetition of the same old articles on how to bag bunnies at 20 feet and glowing reviews of shit crap gear to keep the makers of this tat advertising in the thing. There's more useful info on the back of a matchbox.- 37 replies

Hiya Rob. Refurb it? Have a custom dip from Hydrographics and keep it as an alternate stock for your HW97 mate?

Don't build your hopes up for a stunning performance. Gamo are not that much good to be honest.

He needs a rifle he can practically use. Most 7 year olds aren't big lads yet, so he'll need a small rifle he can manage. And it depends how much you want to spend. The Weihrauch HW25 is a real child's starter rifle. It's not a hunter. But it's a small, compact little spring rifle he can get used to cocking, loading and shooting at paper targets in the back garden or on your permission. If you want to move up a further into a rifle you can train him well with and ultimately hunt vermin with, I'd look at a Weihrauch HW95. Fantastic rifle he can grow with and use all his life; it will la

You guess right mate! Well, I guess that's my next job then. Thank you too Mac. That tips it for me with yours and Si's recommendations of it.  All the best to you Gentlemen. Simon

Andy, the HW97K is absolutely fantastic mate. Thank you so much for the magic you've woven into this superb rifle mate. Just wondering about putting the Bisley butt pad on it. But it is a superb shooting rifle Andy, no question. Thanks pal. Simon Sorry for moving off-thread a tad here.

Over The Moon With My New .177 97Kt.
pianoman replied to thursodog's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
What a fair and understanding lady you have indeed Chris. Nice Orchids too! The note on using HB pencil filings as a lube. How on earth did you ever discover that? (You can tell I'm as useless at Engineering solutions as I am decently good at oil painting!) You seem to have a genuine gift for spotting the most useful materials from unlikely sources! The tin mug is another of your remarkable turns! Andy's gasram HW90 is extremely accurate and its compact proportions make sweet handling. It's .20 and in his hands it's absolutely deadly. It has a snap-sharp let-off as all its air cracks -
I shoot both and both are the best you can buy...Honestly I'm not joking. In .177 they are searingly accurate as you can be. Neither of them disappoint in any way

Miles Johannesburg's Fantasy Life And Lies Exposed
pianoman replied to zini's topic in General Airgun Discussion
No offence from me bigdaz but, what do you do with a bloke who appears one day and writes what he does? People here aren't stupid but, simply confer a good-natured respect and a trust to someone's word unconditionally. It's how that trust is abused that the real truth of the man emerges. Some folk cotton on faster and sooner than others. I don't want to live in a cynical, twisted world where everyone's a potential bullshit con artist to be wary warned of. There's enough of that already out there. There are always great and good people. From the most unlikeliest sources sometimes, at that. -

David Thoreau. Yeah that sums this pillock up well, modelling himself on this 19th century arsehole. Big words? For an Armourer, Adam? I was hoping you'd tell me what they meant pal! -
Miles Johannesburg's Fantasy Life And Lies Exposed
pianoman replied to zini's topic in General Airgun Discussion
He exposed himself as a liar and a conniving twister a long time back when he was effectively trespassing on someone's land while masquerading as this, alternate guru of land and leaf...He wasn't the "Man Living in The Woods" as he would have us believe but a a bloody dosser with a caravan holed up on a scraggy bit of grass at a roadside. Until, after God knows how many petitions to court, the owner of it, finally, was granted powers to bring the Bailiffs in and remove him. Even then, he tried to lie his way out of the truth of his situation here on the general section to garner sympathy. -
Yes it would! We are talking about a rifle for a little lad of 7 years of age as the primary user. Stoeger air rifles are an adult's rifle.

Hatsan At44 Any Good?
pianoman replied to shadow_sniper's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
I have actually...Just! In my entire shooting lifetime of 46 years now, young mole, I have owned 7 Weihrauchs; including the HW80K I gave to Andy for his good services and the HW80, HW77 and HW97 I have standing here, right before me. The other three were an HW35 Export in 1978 (wonderful rifle that!) and two early model Mk.1 HW80s in both .22 and .177 flavours. All superbly fine guns and served me faithfully. I only wish I still had them. And 4 Webleys (.22 Patriot, my first FAC. An Osprey .177, an Omega .22. A .22 Vulcan and a sweet little Excel .22 converted to gasram.) when they wer -
Tx200 Tune Or Not?
pianoman replied to crazycraddog's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Hi there mate. If your rifle is producing pellet on pellet accuracy, how do you think you can improve that? Accuracy is not an issue here really is it. What do you mean exactly when you say it's noisy? Might just need a lube and a bit of grease? You know, a bit of a service and a little TLC. As to cost, the best person to answer that is the guy you approach to do the work. Depends what you want doing. But in all honesty, I don't think a tune is your answer here. It might even work against you and upset your TX200's accuracy with it's current pellet. -
Hw97Kt Adjustable Recoil Pad Come Loose At Base
pianoman replied to Andy_c's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
It's not an unfixable situation. The solution is here in the replies you have, Andy. -
Hi Andy. Just a note of caution about DIY Cammo you should consider mate. It might make your rifle a poor bet for a trade-in or selling-on when you come to buy a new rifle. You really sure you want to do this? Your SFS stage-2 tuned HW97 is a serious quality rifle. Cammo is a thing of very personal taste and DIY jobs always look amateur-ish;- which makes a rifle look shit, to be honest. Good intentions pave many a road to hell in shooting! Chances are;; you'll regret it. Sorry Andy but have a think seriously before you leap! Best wishes. Simon

Hi tomas87. For a little lad of 7 years old, he needs a starter rifle that suits his build and reach; that gets him started and helps to build his shooting groundwork. That is more important to his growth right now, than a full powered hunter. That's really for later. Look at a Weihrauch HW25. This is a small, lightweight spring rifle for children that will help him far more beneficially than anything suggested here. The spring guns listed are too much just now. He should not be allowed too hunt but accompany you and observe in the field and then, go learn with you on a safe targe

Pellet Pouches?
pianoman replied to Skot Ruthless Teale's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Giro sorry mate no I don't have pics. You're going to have to use your imagination! Edited to add. It really is not difficult to make one of these pellet tins Giro. You're just lining a sturdy pellet tin with cheap chammy and paint it up how you like. And they last years and years without problems. -
What do you think Giro....???? Only you know what your shooting's going to be
-
You appear to live under the flag of Argentina so the law on air guns there is the one you need to check with. UK law is an irrelavance to you Giro. But to give a broadly correct answer to your query. Go for a PCP and tune it to higher performance. The range of PCPs that will perform superbly well at high levels of power, around 30ft/lbs as a guide, are greater than what's on offer from spring rifles. The downside of high performance PCP is there will be fewer shots per fill than at sub 12 ft/lbs. For spring rifles at higher performance. Go for Weihrauch HW80 OR Air Arms TX200 in .177
