  1. I hope he gets better soon. I love his silencers!
  2. I own both a 97K .177 and an HW77 .22 and hunt with both. Given the (impossible) choice of hunting rabbits, squirrels and pigeons with just one sub-12 ft/lb air rifle to own I'll take my HW77 .22 every time. The full length HW77 rifle I have is just about as close to a perfect hunting spring air rifle as I've ever known. Accurate as any top notch PCP, beautifully balanced and tuned to an almost recoilless shot and hits hard to 35-45 metres and out to 50 metres and over. What more can I say? Weight is not an issue, it is not so heavy as to be unmanageable. I shoot from static positions and
  3. A poor workman blames his tools...but he can't work with a blunt knife! There's sound advices from the lads here but, in all honesty, a cheap air rifle like a well-used SMK will have all sorts of issues like fit of parts, stock-to-action, trigger and barrel that will spoil your accuracy, even with a decent scope and a proper pellet for it. They wear out and don't last the distance over time and you cannot expect a cheapo airgun to perform like a quality Weihrauch or Air Arms etc. There are a number of good reasons why these rifles cost a lot more. Top quality is reliable, precision accur
  4. This is why, one fine day, there will be a licensing system for ALL air rifles and pistols. We will all have to register each and every air rifle/pistol we currently own. And it will be made tough for anyone to get into the sport legitimately if they haven't already got a permission or membership to a gun club. If it's not licensing, it likely will be the easiest route and an outright ban will be brought into force and that will be that. Over and out. Those of us who have never broken the law at all and shoot our guns responsibly, will be punished as it's easier and cheaper to outlaw the l
  5. Merry Christmas to you Mac, Little Hunter and everyone here. Let's have a better new year than this this one! The very best to you all. Simon
  6. Squirrel and Pigeon makes a cracking good curry! Plenty to feed on here. Nice bag indeed.
  7. The Relum Tornado .22 left a lasting impression on me when these tap-loading underlever rifles were new..... My idiot of a cousin had one . And when I was a youngster of about 10 years old, back in 1967 he accidentally shot me in the face with it! Forgot it was loaded! I still have the pellet in my left cheek 47 years later! One inch below my left eye. Thankfully it wasn't quite as powerful as the rifles of today.
  8. Hi Pianoman, Thanks for the advice. I see you own a TX200HC as well as the Weihrauchs. Which in your opinion shoots best straight out he box? I've read on some sites that people feel the Air Arms rifle is better from the box, but after some tinkering and tuning the HW97K is a better rifle? Would you say the 77 is better than the 97K for small game? Whichever I get will be in.22. As suggested by someone on here though I may just end up getting two rifles anyway. Who do you think makes the best carbine air arms or weihrauch? Thanks for your input Alistair Hi Alistair
  9. You said it already Mac. As a first rifle the HW77K is a stunner that will be your last! Unless of course, you sell it...then you'll wish you hadn't. My one regret with my HW77 .22 full length is...I wish I had bought one sooner. The memories of stalking and hide shooting rabbits and pigeons I have with mine are priceless! HW97 is a great rifle. No question! But, owning both these rifles is a genuine pleasure and they will never be sold on., I have to say though, my HW77 is like a good friend. Never lets me down out there. I've won spring rifle competitions with it and put hundreds of
  10. Hi Rez. Actually you make a very valid and excellent point that I haven't thought of. The HW77 action hasn't changed since it was launched in the late 70s now. It's only cosmetic change has been a new stock design out a couple of years back now. It can be argued that, it was perfect the day it was born and doesn't need radical makeovers. But, as always, looks heavily influence buying trends so, your point is a powerful statement. A re-fashioning of the underlever as Air Arms have with their Pro Sport concealed into the forestock would make a real good looker from its action? This
  11. It's how we do things in Britain Rake. Always has been my bonnie. It's always the utterly wrong, the inept, lying b*****d that gets the job and fcuks it up in heartbeat! Take a good look at who gets in to political power and the lies and bollocks he/she has promised in return for votes. And then...BOOM! The real, sad no-bloody-hoper really emerges and the next thing you know, there's a total bloody shambles to sort out by the next inept no-hoper following on! The airgun licencing bill has been on the cards for God knows how long now. It will go through despite every reasonable argumen
  12. We are both very well and hearty indeed thank you Mac. Hope you and your family are too dear friend. The Weihrauch HW77 is really overlooked by a lot of lads today who, for whatever reason, are looking at choices with other spring rifles on offer out there. But the HW77 is an unbelievably accurate rifle. It's also one of the best built Weihrauchs still in production. I wouldn't be without mine and if (God forbid) I had to part with all my guns but, keep only one air rifle I have, it would have to be my HW77 .22. I would love for you to try mine out on a full day's hunting with it Mac,
  13. This is a never-ending pursuit. Getting the scope plumb vertical on the action. I've got two spirit levels. I set them on the action and the scope. I get both bubbles perfectly bang centre in the marks together...And still when I return to the rifle after a while, both are a mile out! The spirit level and plumb line method is the best yet. And trust that, when you have everything as perfectly vertical as you can see, it really is perfectly vertical! Look through your scope and go through all its mag range numbers and that too will tell you if you are out. Barrywhite you beat me to
  14. . WEIHRAUCH HW77. WEIHRAUCH HW97K. WEIHRAUCH HW80. WEIHRAUCH HW95. WEIHRAUCH HW98. WEIHRAUCH HW99S. Best sub-12-ft/lb spring air rifles for hunting there is. No frills, no fussy builds. Just simple, reliable, tough as panzers, gets the job done, superbly accurate with the best trigger yet devised and they will last your lifetime. You choose the calibre! Pianoman.
  15. It's a crying pity the Prosport isn't made for us left-handers. It's the factory-standard walnut stock Air Arms wrap the rifle in, that I wanted most of all. As air rifles are, I'm a Weihrauch man through and through. So the HW97K is my choice of the two rifles in question. And I have both the HW97K and TX200HC .177 rifles. BUT.... For utter accuracy and reliability, nothing beats a sweetly tuned and well set-up WEIHRAUCH HW77 .22. :toast: :toast: That's the spring rifle Daddy of all spring rifles in my book. Anyone of you lads looking for a spring rifle you'd be proud to
  16. It looks to me John like, you will have to get your Regal to a proper gunsmith who knows his PCPs to make it work as it should. It's more cash to fork out, but, you should get your rifle back working as well as mine now does....Unless there's something radically out of line with it. Chris/Seamaster. Yours is a bad tale of woe! You'll have your reasons for buying multiple Huntsmans and Regals but, you would expect a rifle of this price-point with so many faults to be a one-off, rather than a commonly-held duffer across a whole type in production! Your collective bill would come to several
  17. I've got some lovely scopes in my collection but, I use an old but trusty, well used Simmons Pro-Air 6-18x40 with a 30/30 reticle on my Daystate Regal. Absolutely perfect for my needs. Beautiful scope, simple, stays right where you zero it to. If I could find another I'd buy it!
  18. I don't wish to sound rude or a know-all but, honestly, you are not really ready to spend enough with your stated budget. You are after something for nothing and there's no such thing where fac spring power is concerned. There's more to this than whacking in a beefy spring and a lick with a few lubes and off you go! . If an FAC springer is what you really, really want, you have to get an HW80 .22 Nothing else comes close, as solid or as reliable or as accurate at around the 20ft/lb mark. An HW80 .22 is the only spring rifle worthy of a spot on your FAC. I've had mine for 17 years and it is
  19. Carlo5983 you have clearly had greatly rewarding shooting experiences with your Regal straight off the bat. But, you are, honestly, in a lucky minority here. I bought a Daystate Huntsman classic in .177 for my partner Helen and it was a superb performer straight out of the box. Not a thing wrong with it. So, on the back of being so impressed with her rifle, I bought the Regal as, I was after the looks and accurate power with a better shot count for hunting with. All I can say, really honestly and fairly, about the Daystate Regal for the benefit of a potential new buyer is this. 1.Buy
  20. Hi Shreko. Not if you can see everything focused perfectly clearly through it, down to say 10-15 metres short-range on lower settings of, say about 3 to 6-7 mag. Put it on your rifle and try imagining shooting a rat or bunny at this distance. Set up a target and do some shooting and focus on the target, as only you know and can see with your eyes. I love the Bushnell Banner series for air rifles and have just bought a cracking 6-24x40mm mildot Banner from the US for my HW77 .22.. It has an Adjustable Objective as I'm not as sharp-eyed with fixed-mag scopes as I used to be. Nice one
  21. Hi there Hairy Biker. I've got an A&M custom job which is long and chunky; but it hushes the rifle to nothing more than the sound of a click from the hammer and spring. This is the prototype of the current model and I won it at a THL Meet a few years ago. If you like a big bin of a thing on the end of your barrel, you'll love this one. But... what I have fitted right now on my Regal, for both sheer cosmetic good looks and an effective muzzle-deadening-to-a-click, is an old Parker Hale silencer I've had for years but, it too works just exactly how I want it to. It's a lot les
  22. It's the time of year when the nights are getting longer and there's less daylight to hunt in. And it's getting colder so, they tend to be seen out less and less and keep warm in their burrows and pop out to feed in the dark only when they need to; never straying so far from the warren as they might in better weather. Wet windy nights are safest for them. Not too many predators about and those that are, are carried on the winds. The winds are their ally. It amplifies and carries sounds and scents of approaching danger much better than still/calm air conditions. They keep to the leeward si
  23. Hi Rez. How've you been keeping pal?. Been very busy with the Canadian Lancaster visit to Coningsby -it's only up the road a mile from my cottage in New York. Looking at your groups here.... WOW!!! That is serious grouping Rez. Top springer shooting mate, no problems here! We should meet up for a shoot and a beer sometime. Beautiful pubs around here! Best wishes. Simon
  24. Cheers Mark. I was wondering who else has had a bad experience with Daystate. If car analogies still count they are another BRITISH LEYLAND! in a time called the 1970s this was Britain's largest car manufacturer. All their models were overpriced, over-promoted, poorly built rubbish. They even fell apart in the showrooms! Daystate are going this way! The Regal is like the Rover 2600 Van Den Plas. Looks great...then loose parts start unscrewing themselves...underpowered...conks out! And why the bloody hell do they think building a pointless .303 air rifle is worth anything when the
  25. .Well done fella Now, look after it, as Villaman says. Show the landowner you respect his/her property, no litter left behind, no pellet damage anywhere like zeroing up on the fenceposts and before long, he'll be opening doors for you with other landowners who want the vermin dealt with and you'll have all the permission you can handle and more. Best wishes. Simon
