Hello Blackbriar. I think your mate's accuracy was improved more by practice than fitting one of these things. They are designed to blot out your sighting eye's peripheral vision and help you concentrate on your sightpicture by bringing your eye onto a correct distance of eye-relief. But, you will have that sorted out already as you bring the rifle up to your shoulder and your sight comes rapidly on aim in the scope. It might assist you in target shooting but will be of no real use hunting where a good all-round .lookout is needed Some fellas may swear by them for hunting but that's fi

Gentlemen. To be honest. Absolutely Honest. It's not winning any fans, so far, is it? No-one around the shooting forums is saying "My God, I have just got to get me one of those in .22!" It may well be, this PULSAR bull-pup rifle might prove to be a step too far for Daystate's fortunes. OR, perhaps, is it because Daystate might be in a sticky hole financially and are looking to gamble on America as its saviour with this rifle, set at 30+ft/lbs as the Americans enjoy an unlimited FPE free of licence laws. But if they are, they face some stiff competition from other Bull-pup designs such

Not for me . America? There isn't as much money floating about over there, as Daystate might think.

A Rusty Hw80 Mk1 Restored..

Fantastic workmanship John. Brilliant! ATB Simon -
Titan spring will fit. Not sure which number though. Number 4 comes to mind but this might be FAC spring and totally unsuitable. It was a beautiful rifle though Rez. Near recoilless action mounted on a sliding sledge affair which, was copied into the Diana 54 Airking . I once had first dibs on a brand new left-handed .177 TX200SR ..........and turned it down. AAAAAAAGH! Simon

One of air gunning's legends here Rez. You've got a right monster of an accurate air rifle here. I would be clawing up the walls to,get out and enjoy a serious day's hunting with it! Well done fella! ATB. Simon.

Coypu Hunter's answer has a lot of good sense in it. I don't want to open a can of incomprehensible science but.....A diablo pellet is effectively, a ball shot that creates an efficient, equalised airflow around it, much better than other types of head design; and with a skirt that both maximises the propellant charge of air behind it and stabilizes the gyroscopic spin imparted from the rifling to the head and tail of the pellet. This is why, I think, Diablo pellets are usually better performers than others for accurate flight. They also have the effect of a blunt instrument in imparting

Rabbits stick very close to home this time of year due to weather. They are mostly found sheltering in the lee of rising ground and small hills or mounds against the winds. They aren't so easy to spot at this time of year and they are off down a nearby hole at the slightest sound of movement so, its a case of cammo up in your warmest waterproofs and be prepared to wait it out from a hide or static field position. I set up a little pop-up tent in a woodland area of my permission which is full of warrens and leave it on my permission a few days for them to get used to seeing it without dange

Hi mate and welcome! There's nothing wrong with the Ultra SE you have as far as accurate hunting and target work goes. You are starting out the right way by getting back into shooting with proper practice, getting to know your rifle and its limits; and yours; and I salute you for that. In time, you'll come to know whether or not your rifle needs an upgrade on its reg or, are you shooting perfectly successfully and happily as it is now. If you feel that your rifle would benefit from an A&M upgrade, at least you will be a better position than anyone to know how that will turn out for

Hi Richnkelly. You have a .177 Air Arms S410. So you have a good rifle to hunt with, no problem. .177 Air Arms Diablo Field in either 4.51mm or 4.52mm headsizes, is a good place to start. The difference in headsize means the difference between hitting you rabbit's head with clean, humane killing accuracy through the brain, or a shot to the head that will not kill the animal outright. It will escape to die down a hole or in the undergrowth so you really need a .177 pellet that is perfect to your barrel. All the suggested types here are good in certain rifles. The main thing is, nev

You're welcome Andy. Give Chris there a call; he'll answer any query you're likely to have. You have a lovely looking rifle here. Best regards. Simon

Logun was the work of air rifle builder and tuner Jim Hogan. Jim's retired now but, I know his assistant is a lad called Chris. He worked on these rifles with Jim and now works as a resident gunsmith at Red Beck Shooting Supplies, Crofton. Wakefield West Yorkshire. They are on the net and easy to find. Give him a call. Simon

Hard to make a positive suggestion dixie. If you live in the US you will enjoy a greater, unlimited access to far more varieties of airsoft, BB, Co2 and general air weapons than we do in our over-regulated and stifled Britain. Have you tried having a look at the Beeman range of import Weihrauch air rifles into the US? A Beeman/HW99S or HW95 might make a good upgrade you can both enjoy. Best wishes. Simon

Tune And Polish Springers Or Not
pianoman replied to bigmac 97kt's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
We did 'Wasted. But that was back a goodly number of years when a rifle came off the assembly line to meet a demanding inspection and test-shoot before being passed-out as fit for purpose and sale. A good run-in with a tinful of pellets was all that was needed to get it shooting sweetly. There have been a number of issues raised with Weihrauch over the last 5 years or more, particularly when it comes to the finish of their mainsprings. They've been found to be badly cut off and left in a poor unfinished state. Others have found all kinds of cheap lubes and gunk inside their guns as well -
Tune And Polish Springers Or Not
pianoman replied to bigmac 97kt's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Weihrauch spring rifles have been my first love in air rifles for many years now. They definitely benefit from a good fettle, polish and tune up. Great kit made better is no bad thing! -
I'd have dialled 999 on the spot and had a Police firearms team down there in a flash. Nobody has a right of any sort to point a shotgun at you. Loaded or not, it makes no difference. He should be in prison. It's not too late to make a complaint to the police Webster. Go and do the b*****d!

Tx 200 Mk3 Question
pianoman replied to mark williams's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Mac you are a kind fella and a great sporting shooter. If I had the money to spare I'd buy you a Prosport on the strict proviso you never sell it. Seriously, it would be good for you to get an HW77 snug onto your shoulder and out for a good long spell out in the fields and down range and see how you like it. I reckon it'll really prove a revelation to an accomplished spring rifle man like yourself. You deserve a great rifle Mac. Get one out and see what you've been missing! (Terrible pun! Sorry!) The very best to you and your family in 2015 mate. Simon Mark all the very best t -
Tx 200 Mk3 Question
pianoman replied to mark williams's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Have to say the Prosport is the best looking spring underlever rifle out there. It is honestly gorgeous. But I reckon a well-sorted HW77 like mine will more than match it for long-range accuracy. But that might be more down to individual shooters and skill levels. I've never had any problems with the HW77's weight on a full day out shooting but, I'm not exactly lightly built either! In fairness, both rifles are more than enough accurate for any shooter's demands on his rifle. But HW really do it right for me. Air Arms are very nice, better looking but, somehow, not as good in my experience -
The standard-fit factory stock for the HW97KT is German Beech and it's very good. Weihrauch do not make a walnut version of their air rifle stocks but all the Beech woods they use are coming out with nicely-figured grains these days. Try contacting Hull Cartridge for spare stocks or TW Chambers. Your local RFD would probably get you a nice one if nothing else. But if it has to be walnut, try Custom Stock of Sheffield. They're very good on fitting their walnut stocks to HW rifles.

Hi Mike. It wasn't the HW77 I have itself but, a tuning kit from a certain name in the business that wasn't quite right for it. Both they, and my pal Andy put it all right eventually. Simon

It's a first rifle that gave you a start of sorts, that's got you out shooting buddyblue, so, it's not all gloom. But, from what the lads here are saying is, this Kral rifle needs a degree of work fettling fettling and polishing and general bashing about internally to get some sort of performance out of it. For a brand new rifle to feel like it needs sending back for servicing after a few shots in only a month is not on, regardless of what it cost. It'll either put you off air rifle shooting for life or infuriate you to go look for a better gun. I'd hand it back to the shop as unfit f

Because they'll do just the same job... Well Rez, a genuine one hole, sub 5p group at 35 metres (not yards) from a '77 .22 underlever spring rifle, or a sub 5p group at 40 metres with a .177 HW97K is still a one hole group that will enable you to knock down a rabbit to some decent ranges. After my experience of £800 quid Daystate Regals needing power tuning-up, general fit-repairs and services out of the box, I'm remaining firmly in my cups as a devoted HW spring spring man. I never had any trouble with my HW springers. So yes, they will; do exactly the same job. Just not so expensiv

Let's wrap this up for Christmas shall we Gentlemen?. Spring rifle. (not PCP nor Co2 nor gasram.) BSA OR WEIHRAUCH? WEIHRAUCH HW77 .22. The finest, most accurate spring underlever air rifle on the planet! HW97 as good but no better. The truth is BSA are now owned and made by Spanish giants GAMO. They are nowhere near as good as once they were as an all-British maker; and if you do find a cracker of a BSA springer made today, it's more likely a fluke than a standard.

It's still the HW77 .22 for me as I'm a big lad and I like the full length and heft. But my HW97K .177 is a perfect second gun to it (just like yours in the top pics Mac!). Both are polished and tuned to perfection and are as accurate as it's possible to get. Really don't need any more than these two for the absolute pleasure they give on a good day out in the fields and woods. I wouldn't take a PCP over either of these spring rifles under any circumstances!
