Hello Bill and welcome to the forum.. Well, what are you looking for to start with? Whether you choose a spring powered air rifle or a pre-charged pneumatic (PCP) you will find lots of friendly advices and banter here, from some fine fellows that know their stuff when it comes to shooting and hunting with an air rifle. Do not be fazed or put off by some people's remarks about hunting rabbits with an air rifle. This is pure ignorance of modern built air rifles and what they are truly capable of. Take Rez's offer of a meet-up at Waddington HFT club. It's not that far from your end of

Really it's down to Daystate to build their rifles like their competition from Air Arms and Weihrauch does.. Or they will go broke and into receivership as more and more people get fed up with having to pay outside gunsmiths to finish off the job and bring the rifles up to acceptable standards of performance and fit. It took my chap less than 10 minutes to do what Daystate took two months to do; and failed to accomplish any improvement in power or fit whatsoever. Or they will ultimately do what Villaman here has done and rightfully demanded his money back. I'm all for buying British

All I can add to this is, I bought my Daystate Regal .177 on the sheer good looks of the rifle alone. I simply expected it to perform at 11+ foot pounds energy. It didn't produce anywhere near. You can see the pellet loop its way to the target in the scvope with less velocity thump than a .177 should have; and more trajectory loop than a .22!. Also it's build-quality is flimsy. The barrel shroud rotates a little when you screw on/off a silencer. Other lads here have had other issues with theirs; such as stiff bolts, poor finishes that peel off, loose rattle of the barrel shroud. Shockingly ba

I once saw a youtube vid by a certain shooting sports "Country" channel, of an attempt to shoot rats with a sub-12 ft/lb Daystate Wolverine...in .303. It is painful; to watch the obvious nonesense of this folly. Fast reactionary rat. + Large, hefty, slow-moving slug. = No bloody good. No surprise there, really. If you don't have an FAC I'd say .22 is the best, biggest round you can shoot with confidence and has proved itself as a potent vermin killer many decades before now. The larger calibres are a waste of money without really massive power behind them. Unless you are of 'a so

Hi Rez. You've got a real smart rifle here. I've never owned a Fenman but, they were a really popular carbine back in the early 2000s. The wood is called HYDUA and for some reason, you pronounce it SHEDUA. It's also a slow-growth wood that doesn't grow quicly enough to replenish itself; which makes it rare and a protected tree species now so, Hydua is no longer allowed to be grown and sold for commercial uses like furniture, flooring.... and gunstocks!# The guy who runs Custom Stock Sheffield, told me that once when I asked about a sporter stock made from Hydua. YES REZ! It really lifts them and throws them to one side. Puts a big hole right through the skull. The strangest encounter I ever had with a rat and my HW80 was about 15 years ago but I'll never forget it. I saw this big rat at about 20 yards range that was moving over a sugarbeet pile, It paused and I shot at it. But it had moved as the shot fired. There was an almighty thwack of a hard hit and the rat dissapeared over the side of the beet-mound. I left my rifle behind at the cover for some reason and went over to find it. And there it was, on the other side of the mound, almost

I'm with Charlie here. A decent condition 2nd user Weihrauch makes great financial sense if a budget is the constraining factor. You are still getting a world-class spring rifle that will last a lifetime. Gamo are really bloody horrible guns. Cheap metals, poorly built and the worse triggers of all. Nothing I've seen or shot with of thiers fills me with as much as a glimmer of confidence to go hunting with humane killing accuracy.

.25 is brilliant if you have an FAC and a slot for an air rifle. It is pretty devastating in sub-12 ft/lbs at short to medium ranges. Personally though, I have yet to see a rat limp off after a solid head clout from a .22! I have an FAC HW80 .22 rifle. When a pellet from that hits a rat, rabbit or squirrel you should hear the THWACK it makes!

I still have a pellet lodged in my left cheek that was put there courtesy of my cousin via his Relum Tornado .22 tap-loading underlever. I was shot from about 5 feet away and he forgot that little detail of him loading it a few minutes before. That was back in about 1968/69.. Had his rifle been of the order of the sub 12 ft/lbs .22 spring rifles we have today, I think I might have been killed.

Would you say a .20 is a "good all rounder", fitting right in between both calibers or is a .20 a calibre of its own right and to be reconsidered? .20 is every bit as good as both .22 or .177. in the right hands. As before, all calibre ammo is a tool to be used. .20cal is a good all-round calibre but then so are both the others. You are a bit limited for choice of pellet in .20 and that can be a headache with some rifles/makers.. But, from what I've seen for myself, Weihrauch spring and gasram HW90 rifles and H&N ammo in this calibre are very well suited together.

Really I just think .22 is better for rabbits and .177 is best for feather. Calibre is a tool to be used but, if you shoot .177 with all confidence then that's what is working for you. For others it's .22 that is best. As long as we are producing the most humane head shots as far as we possibly can, to the best of our ability, than no one can say more. Simon

A top-quality scope for a top-quality rifle. Nikon make a lovely optics series for reasonable money. Google them. Hawke Sidewinder in your favourite spec.. Hawke Panorama. EV AO IR series. 4-12x40 and 4-12x50mm ( I really like these two I have on my spring rifles!)

Walnut. With rosewood cappings!

He won't Davy. But, if I know farmers, paying for one of them might be another matter.... Regards. Simon

My God, there's a hundred different answers here but it all leads to the same conclusion. It's how you shoot with what you have to shoot with. And how you use it. And what you use it against!, that really decides the outcome of the pellet debate. I've come to a simple conclusion about which is best. BOTH OF THEM. FOR SPECIFIC, EFFECTIVE VERMIN-CULLING TASKS! I loath and detest the notion of unintentionally wounding my quarry. For me, both calibres are a tool to be used for the job to be done that reduces the risk. That's why I have both calibres in my choices of rifle and an FAC .

Is there much difference in the fov with both of the models has of above? Not really that much for ten mil diference of the objective lenses. They both have an excellent field of view. I use the 50mm Panorama on my HW97 because the high cheek-comb needs a high mounted scope. The 40mm Panorama is great o my HW77 as it means I can have a scope mounted as close to the bore-centre of the rifle. Niether scopes will dissapoint you

For an air rifle, they are very good scopes indeed. I have both a 4-12x40 EV AO IR and a 4-12x50 EV AO IR Panorama. And both with 10.5 half-mildot reticles for my sub 12 ft/lb HW77 .22 and HW97K .177 respectively. Both Panoramas do the job as a good scope should. The field of view is excellent and the optics are clear and bright in focus. Pianoman

Hw 90 Suggestion Required
pianoman replied to benjo999's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Hi there benjo999. Withoit a working knowledge of what regulation there may be regarding air rifles and power outputs/limits in India... The short answer, from your choice of the three for me, is the Diana 52 Sidelever in .22. Diana 52 is a sidelever styled on elegant, classical lines which I love anyway, and an absolute cracker of a rifle all round. Very well made quality rifle from an old time-honoured German maker. If you have an FAC this one really tunes up well. As it is, at sub-12 ft/lbs it can hold it's own well against its competition from HW etc. The Diana 350 magnum -
A Brief Summary Of My Latest Pigeon Shoot

Read the other posts he's been puuting up about the forums. He's already tried giving very dodgy 'advice' on the airgun forum to people who've been shooting for years before he was born. He's the apparent spokesman for a "team" calling themselves "How To Hunting". Yet his profile says he's only been out shooting with an air rifle a couple of times. I can respect any kid wanting to go out and get some permission and write up about his shooting. But this lad is coming over as a Walter Mitty sort and insults peoples' inteligence.. Excuse me... its not my team, im just a new member who -
Hello there Liam. Welcome to the section here. Good luck with getting a permission or two. ATB Pianoman

I have a green Swedish Army parka for winter shooting and a German Flecktarn parka for summer that does it all for me. Considering that rabbits see in black/white monochrome, I'd go for a comfortable jacket or parka with natural greens or a decent cammo-disruptive pattern ex military jacket. Don't waste good money on "Scientifically designed" Uber Cammo gear costing more than it's worth.

All will be as it was before. I will use both calibres, shoot off my left shoulder and try to live my life and work in my business without causing offence or upset to anyone.

A Brief Summary Of My Latest Pigeon Shoot
pianoman replied to Jairon Fletcher's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
Having reflected on what this lad writes, I'd agree he has enthusiasm and that should be encouraged. I don't honestly think he's a bad lad in any way. But when he writes his experiences here, and adds his good advices on the airgun forum with pearls of wisdom like "Always store a gun upright or lay flat"; it makes you wonder! Jairon. Don't be disheartened by the banter you are getting laddie, nobody means you anything more than a bit of josh for the way you write your hunting stories. ....Keep up the good work with the 'How To Hunting Team'! -
