Most Accurate 'out The Box' .22 ??
pianoman replied to dommorris92's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Well Mark, my dear friend, I'm flattered at being a mere boy of 58! I had a Feinwerkbau Sport in .22. on Hire Purchase from Uttings in 1978 or so when these were just introduced to the UK. It was an honestly beautiful, superbly accurate break-barrel air rifle straight from the box. Beautifully made, real quality craftsmanship went into Feinwerkbau's flagship spring break barrel. That's how things were back then for all the makers I remember. They all put care and love and craftsmanship into their guns. I had some brilliant rabbit shooting with my FWB Sport .22 when I was stationed at RA -
Most Accurate 'out The Box' .22 ??
pianoman replied to dommorris92's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Most accurate rifle out the box. WEIHRAUCH HW77 .22. Most overlooked rifle in favour of the more modern/trendy/fashionable rifles out there. WEIHRAUCH HW77 .22 Best air rifle you could buy second hand. WEIRAUCH HW77 .22 A classic masterpiece that only a small number of shooters here will ever get to own and experience, it seems. Comes with open sights or bolt on a scope, zero-up and you're in business. THE REST IS UP TO YOU. BUT DON'T BLAME A RIFLE LIKE THIS IF YOU DON'T PUT THE WORK IN! My absolute No1 favourite air rifle I've ever owned. love it! Simon -
Oh how I wish this rifle was available in a proper left hand version. I'd have two in both calibres, but, a .22 for all round hunting work would be the apple of my eye. Air Arms seem to really cocked this up, with only a limited run a few years ago of left handed stocks set-up with right handed actions. They were all snapped up fast and that should have told Air Arms something. Alas they do not appear to have listened! It's the Prosport's walnut stock that makes the appearence of the rifle so beautiful to look at and has a balance that perfectly suits the rifle's handling. Even shooting a f

Is There A Springer With A Multi Shot Mag?
pianoman replied to GruffaloGriff's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I remember the ASI PARATROOPER very well as a young lad in the early 1970s when it first came out. I had one that was a single shot, break-barrel rifle with a plastic pistol grip and stock. It was a decently accurate rifle too. It's a bit of a collectors gun nowadays I forgot, there was indeed a Paratrooper Repeater version trenchfoot! .. And wasn't there one about that looked like an Armalite M16 with bits of extra plumbing stuck on it, if I remember rightly.? Or am I thinking of something else? -
Is There A Springer With A Multi Shot Mag?
pianoman replied to GruffaloGriff's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Now that's an interesting question. Unfortunately, I wish I could answer that with experience of owning a Goldstar but, alas, wasn't to be. Simon -
Storage Of Pellets When Out In The Field?
pianoman replied to patterdale's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Other than carrying three magazines for my Daystate Regal, which cover my day's shooting. For sessions with my spring rifles I just line an empty, sturdy screw-top pellet tin (Eley Wasps came in just the right sort of screw-top tin) with cheap Halfords' Chamiose leather superglued in place. Paint it grey enamel and there you have a soundproof tin that pellets wont rattle inside and kept safe, dry and snug. And won't cost you more than a few quid to make several tins. -
Is There A Springer With A Multi Shot Mag?
pianoman replied to GruffaloGriff's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Theoben SLR 98 and BSA GOLDSTAR were the only successful underllever multi-shot rifles where cocking the underlever cycled a rotary magazine. The SLR 98 was expensive and a gasram, which is not everyone's cup of tea. it didn't sell as well as thought and, being expnsive to build, it was eventually dropped as sales of multi-shot PCPs continued to offer a more cost effective alternative. BSA Goldstar was a beautiful underlever rifle and BSA's flagship.. It was one of those rifles I wanted but never managed to buy. It was out on the shelves during the 1990s and was living proof that a multi-sho -
Airgun Licence In Scotland Should I Just Go Fac Now.
pianoman replied to GruffaloGriff's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Not sure how but, they will find a way. A call to register for licence, or surrender the rifle/s? Perhaps, if the Police find a fellow in possession of an unlicenced air rifle, it could have serious consequences for him/her. The threat of a prison sentence will have an effect. But only for the law abiding citizen. -

Might as well get an FAC. Why else would the hassle, be worth the hassle?! -
As it now is, BOMB! Support the Kurdish forces fighting ISIL/Daesh who are happily killing and maiming their fellow muslims anyway, far worse than anything we can inflict by way of attacking targets in densely populated locations. Modern air-launched weaponry is far more accurate and discriminate than ever before. There will be less civillian caualties, if any at all, than people seem to think. It's the filthy treacherous b*****ds living here among us that really need sorting out. No more surveillance operations. The French authorities knew who the Paris attackers were, and did nothing abo

Generally, I just roll up whenever I want to go shoot and say hello if they are around. I'll give them a call the day before if it's going to be a dawn foray. They see my car and know I'm on and we usually meet up afterwards to discuss what was seen/shot etc.. Sometimes, I find a bottle of wine or two has been left by my car door! It's really a nice arrangement I have with my permission owners, they are lovely people to me..

I'm out today in my nice cosy woodland. A static hide laid on a groundsheet and a cammo net around me. Always a woodpigeon, rabbits close to warrens and the odd squirrel to make it worth the while. The weather's been unusually mild for this time of year my way.

It may be your scope has shifted zero from the previous session and needs a click or two to bring it back on. Or, the usual case, it may be the oils and lubes in the rifle need to warm up with a number of shots to get the air pressures working more efficiently and thus consitently for your accuracy. Or, you are starting off with a less than refined hold and trigger technique that improves as you shoot onward into your session. Or your barrel is in the process of leading with its preferred pellet and is improving with further shots... Or, it is a matter that I have never heard of or experi

In General Is A 22 Springer Shot Cycle Nicer?
pianoman replied to Newlife2's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Generally, a .177 shot has a snappier, sharper feel than a .22 one. -
You can't get a hair trigger setting that you can control properly by turning the screw all the way left. The let-off point is unpredictable to your finger's touch and it's dangerous when the weight of the trigger alone falling back,, can fire the action. I really don't recommend you try this unless you are really prepared for what happens. All that happens is the trigger becomes floppy and loose feeling. And that's not a good position anyway. You can also find yourrself letting the shot fly as soon as you release the safety if your rifle is elevated much above downrange centre. So not a g

There's a lovely deep bit of woodland on one of my permissions, I head for when the winds are howling a bit. One inside the cover of trees and foliage the winds are quietened down and the rabbits feed in the lee of banks on forest grasses outside their warrens. That's a good place to be when the winds are blasting over open fields. Pigeons come flying in from the storms and there's always a chance of a squirrel or two. I love a bit of woodland mootching when the winds are blowing the fields to hell!

Mac you beat me to it but spot on advice. Quarter turns till you find your shot is corresponding to a light pressure on the trigger. Some years ago I spent a whole day shooting my HW80 with the trigger set from its hardest setting fully to right and watched how drastically the shot was affected and corrected turning the adjustmer screw to left all the way till the pressure was so light the rifle could be fired pointing upward when the trigger was released by pressing the safety catch button and the weight of the trigger alone was enought to fire the action. Not a thing to do unless yo

If you are shooting left handed, as I am, it might be you could be giving a little too much pressure on the trigger with every shot fired and pulling the rifle consistently off to left of centre. You might be better off to soften the let-off pressure by giving the adjuster screw, behind the trigger-blade a turn to left. Same principle applies to right-handers. Mainly though, pay attention to how you release the trigger. If you know for certain that, the rifle is zeroed correctly but is now putting shots to one side of the zero-bullseye, the fault is, you are pulling off-target with a bit too

I shoot with both calibres successfully for hunting all air gun vermin but where rabbits are concerned, my HW80 FAC .22 or sub 12 HW77 .22 are the rifles I prefer for the better assured knock-down power of the bigger round. The real answer, honestly, to the "which-caliber-is-best?" debate lies in the individual shooter and his preferred calibre based on experience of shooting both and arriving at a conclusion based soly on experience. Both calibres are deadly effective for humane killing of vermin, so lonfg as you can shoot accurately into the head of your prey at your comfortable hunting ra
