You're welcome mate! It looks lovely Rez. It's the newest model stock then, by the look of it. Funny enough, I have my .177 HW97 in a Mk.I HW77 stock and it absolutely suits the rifle to a T. Conversely I have my HW77 .22 in an HW97K Bavarian sporter stock and again, a perfect match for the rifle's performance!

It's not a wasted post; it's actually good and thought provoking Rez. I've spent many years zeroing my scopes and rifles at dusk, so to be ready to be out for a dawn foray before first light. It conditions us to think more about and fine-focus our shooting insticts. I think, perhaps we shoot with greater subconcious levels of concentration on our target in low-light conditions like dusk and dawn, than we do in more comfortable levels of daylight from mid-day to early evening. The rifle is a non-thinking, unfeeling machine so it doesn't matter what time of day or night it happens to be. It's

Hi VWman. Don't discard two piece mounts for future reference. They offer a far better flexibility of adjustment on the scopetube between the saddle of the scope, for getting the perfect eye relief and balance of the rifle just right. I learned a long time back that one-piece mounts are very limiting for this level of refined scope-fit to the rail. I only ever use Sportsmatch 2-piece, double-hex-screw mounts on all my rifles and never once had a problem with any scope canting over as a result of recoil; or recoil-back scope-creep with any of them. All the best. Simon

Isn't this just like bloody modern life today? A lad gets on his bike, literally, to get a job and go to work. And along comes an idle worthless b@st@rd who can only steal and rob his way through his pathetic existance and steals his bike!. Hope the lad get's this sorted out and his employers are decent enough to understand any problems with getting to work. As for the worthless scumbag. I hope he overdoses and dies. Best favour he will do society! (Edited for a more polite version of how the thieving shitbag should end up.)

I once lent a "Friend" of mine an HW80K .22 I had, set in a Custom Stock CS500 walnut sporter stock for a Magpie problem he had on his land. It came back with the stock split through the pistol grip and the barrel bent upwards....You can all guess what happened there! He was a Police firearms officer! Nobody borrows a rifle from me ever again. Simon/pianoman

Holding Still On The Shot
pianoman replied to kenax04's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
HOLD AND BREATHING. Never hold your breath. This causes your breathing system to think you are being starved of air and oxygenated blood and increases your heart and pulse rates to increase the flow of blood around your body thus, increasing your shake and wobble. The magnification setting on your scope will exaggerate the movements. The secret is to inhale, come on to aim with the rifle nice and relaxed at your shoulder and in your hands. Nothing tight, grippy or the least uncomfortable or you will begin to strain and topple your control of the rifle in your hold. Then from a reasonably -
Wasn't that one in the link Dan. But it was a simple, small scope that I don't think the company makes or markets anymore. Glossy tube with a gold ring around the bell of the objective lens. Coin-turn turrets. It was as simple as a scope gets but, I was always pleasently surprised how well it held zero. It made a superb optic for hunting squirrels and mink. Nikko Stirling have made some pretty decent scopes for not a lot of money over the years. And generally, they stand up to sub-12 ft/lbs spring rifles very well. Jonnie I could tightly group any number of shots out to 30 yards with i

Try both. Then form your choice from the one that feels absolutely right. Uniquely to yourself and your reach. I have both a TX200HC and an HW97K both in .177. Both are amazingly accurate. But, my HW97K is the best of the two in my hands. ATB. Simon

D'you know Jonnie, I once had a Nikko Stirling Gold Crown 4x32 fixed mag scope scope I picked up for a tenner at a gunshop and it was genuine little beauty! I could hit anything at some decent ranges with it on my HW77 .22.. Alas, I put it on my FAC HW80 and the high level of recoil this rifle produces, did for it! Reticle damaged beyond repair. Considering most of us shoot on 6 or 7 mag, a quality 3-9x40 or 50 is really all we need for hunting with an air rifle. So a decent Bushnell in this configuration will be really nice. I think there is too much on offer from manfacturers on higher mag scopes which is why the trusty 3-9x40 or 50mm gets overlooked and no-one comments. It's not because they are bad in any way, it's because hardly anyone buys this format in a scope anymore.

I've put my HW77 into an HW97 stock like this one and the handling is absolutely superb. So I'd love a try-out with this Chieftain and add one to my collection. But the shooting Davy's put in here is really first class. 64 yards on a bottle top is really pushing it. I really like the way Sandwell Field Sports have finished off the muzzle here. Looks a cracking rifle in all respects. But then, it's a 77/97 tuned rifle from Tony Wall so what else should we expect?!!

I've had several Bushnell Scopes over the years and not had a complaint with any of them. Even the budget-end Banners are a decent scope for an air rifle. I currently use a Bushnell Scopechief 4-14x50 scope on my HW77 .22. Fantastic scope that alas, is no longer made. It cost over £350 when I bought it new in 2000. Bushnell Legend are excellent scopes from what I've seen of them. Certainly worth a closer look Reviews are a bit mixed but, you can't please everybody. Generally, they are a well-liked and popular scope. From my experience with Bushnell in the past, these will make a super

Hello Pianoman I noticed you have a Nikon Field master, what is it like. I think of Nikon camera lenses which are great ? Hi VWman. Excellent scope the Fieldmaster. Can be a bit pricey though. This particular model is a 6-18x40mm Fixed Focus Paralax with target turrets and a simple, very fine wire reticle with a tiny red centre dot. In zero it is unbelievably accurate. It cost me about £425 from Nigel Lambert at Wighill Park Guns at Tadcaster, N. Yorkshire.. But it will withstand all that a spring rifle can dish out and it is brilliant for long range 40+ yard shooting. I've got

The things you learn here! It doesn't make sense to me either Stoater. I've been baiting corvids with carrion since I was a lad with me dad. Now, we can't? illegal? Then what's the point of decoying birds if not to emulate a feeding pattern? It sounds like lawyers tricks to make money underwriting this rubbish. A baby owl deek is a good one to use, I hear, from what I've heard from other fellows using them but, never tried one myself.

HAWKE PANORAMA EV 4-12x50mm IR AO is performing brilliantly on my .177 HW97K. The Panorama 40mm version is an honest little cracker too. Really, for the money you can pick these two panoramas up for, they are a real bargain for a Weihrauch springer!

Air Rifle Hunting And Care Tips.
pianoman replied to Airborne3's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Shooting higher than the turret can cope with is not a rare thing with air rifles and scopes.. Try packing up the rear mount with something like Duct tape or Insulating tape. The way I do it is to make a double thick patch of two piecess of tape over each other. Cut it to fit and adhere all the way around the base of the mount up to the ledge where the screw holes are for the top piece to screw to, or you'll get sideplay. Mount up the scope and get it as perfectly aligned and the reticle verticle as possible, screw on the top-mount and test fire. You will find this will bring your shot -
Air Rifle Hunting And Care Tips.
pianoman replied to Airborne3's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Hi Mike and welcome here. You're no noob mate, just a chap needing proper guidance. You'll get that here, no problem. A bit of banter too, as you're already finding out. Great choice of rifle you have, the Air Arms S410. Get yourself an air bottle to charge it, you'll do yourself in, trying to hand pump the thing all the time. AIR ARMS FIELD .177 PELLETS. These are a pellet type known as a "DIABLO" that is, it is a traditionally designed pellet with a "waist" and a round-headed ..head! These diablo round-head pellets are THE most extremely accurate of all types currently made and are -
Well done that GIRL!! Great to see a youngster out with her dad for a shoot together. Long may it continue!

Food, with all creatures is priority No. 1 Find a roadkill rabbit or squirrel to enhance your deeks. Not very pleasant, I know but, corvids look at what their fellow birds are actually doing or clustered around. Be ready to be deafened by shrieking crows as soon as you bag one!

Lovely looking stock but, my word, this is a short carbine. That can be remedied with a new barrel though, if needed Matty. I think though, on balance there is an amazingly fine rifle in the restoration process here Matty. A real honest gem. Well done on aquiring it! All the best. Simon

Where To Find A Hw97Kt Stock For Hw77
pianoman replied to VWman's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I've shot with a left hand version of the CS700 Thumbhole. VWman. It's very comfortable and shoulders very nicely. I'm not a fan of thumbhole stocks but, this was a very lovely piece of walnut. -

The CS500 sporter is a lovely looking stock Mitch. I'm going to have one made for my HW80 .22 custom project rifle I think this year. -
Excellent rifle Mac , I really love these guns mate. Reliable, superbly accurate, easy to work on. You can't beat them. I won't trade mine for any amount of money. Irreplaceable to me and too many priceless memories from years of hunting with it. As good as the day I bought it 18 years ago this September. And it's a .22! ATB Simon

Where To Find A Hw97Kt Stock For Hw77
pianoman replied to VWman's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Certainly does fit. I have my .22 HW77 set into a HW97K Bavarian Sporter stock and it really makes it a beautiful handling rifle to shoot with. As Rez's reply as to where to look By contrast, I have my .177 HW97K set into an early Mk.I HW77 stock I was given by a good friend here. It absolutely enhances the handling of that rifle superbly too. Maybe Weihrauch should take note! Good luck with your quest VWman. Simon
