I bought what should be one of the best PCPs money can buy. It's turned out a lemon albeit a beautiful looking lemon that needs more money spent on a decent regulator or live with an eye on the pressure guage to keep it in the sweet spot, to get the best out of it. For what I've paid for the ONE REGAL plus scopes and charging bottle, I could have bought a brand new HW77 and a killer scope or, a mint second hand pair. HW77 AND AN HW97K. that would do the job just as well. LUCKILY..I have those two beautiful spring rifles already and I take them in turns out to hunt with. They've also won m

Being a left hander put this HW80K off my shopping list. But it'll make a cracking good rifle for someone.

I reckon the HW99 in .22 is a good rifle for a little lad to start with. He'll grow with it too. There's a whole lifetime of shooting from plinking tins, to targets. to serious hunting with that little rifle and its performance is not to be sneered at. Better built and, being a Weihrauch, better accuracy than the Gamo-built BSA Meteor of today

Seriously? I'll be more impressed when our air rifle manufacturers like Daystate can actually make a decent sub-12 ft/lb, .177/.22 calibre air rifle that performs as well as their prices suggest. Without having to go to specialist regulator makers and tuners to improve them

Most Accurate 'out The Box' .22 ??
pianoman replied to dommorris92's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Like Superman? Sometimes....I really must be careful how I write on things around here! -
Hello there Hooger. True enough you need a Firearms Certificate issued by the UK Police covering the area in Britain you wish to visit. You will not be allowed through UK Customs with your rifle unless you have the licence. You will need this as well as written permission from the UK Landowner to present to UK Border Authorities as part of your proof of valid reason to bring a licenced firearm into the UK. You could have your rifle confiscated if you do not have the paperwork to support it. I'm saying this because, if you do not need a Firearms licence for your 25+ ft/lb air rifle in Holl

I've got both 50mm and 40mm Hawke Panorama scopes and after a few years on my HW97k the 50mm model is as good as ever it was. For any decent air rifle, these are fabulously good value scopes. Well worth consideration for you rifle

Whose Ever Dropped A Bird In Flight?
pianoman replied to Zimpara's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Now, now laddie, I never said anything about what a pellet costs and saving money Just don't like chucking good ammo away on pointless shots like running rabbits and flying birds! Besides, it only further spooks the quarry I'm after... Fieldcraft laddie.Fieldcraft!! -
Opportunity That I Couldn't Resist !
pianoman replied to vizlauk's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Blimey I have a superbly accurate Left Handed TX200HC .177 in a stunning walnut stock, doing nothing if anyone interested in one? I just prefer my Weihrauchs and the poor thing gets left behind now. -
Whose Ever Dropped A Bird In Flight?
pianoman replied to Zimpara's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Never tried before. I have a miserly approach to conserving good ammo as far as possible and don't waste it on futile attempts to shoot moving targets like flying birds. Then, not so long agoI once turned a corner of my permission from around a thick hedgerow and the field just erupted in a cloud of pigeons and rooks; all well within range. I just snap-shot my HW80 .22 straight into the thick of them. An FAC .22 air rifle pellet going really fast and....Not a single bird was hit. They all seemed to know the shot was coming and they made a 'hole' around it. Just darted and swerved in all di -
I guess the stock must be the bulk of the cost factor in this HW97K Mac. I never found these things attractive. It still comes down to correct hold technique on our part to get the best from a spring rifle's accuracy. But a super-smooth internal set up is definite help! I suppose they make it comfortable to bring on aim from a sitting position to your eye-line with the scope for competition target shooting, though personally, I think HFT at least, should be all about the standard factory air rifle and scope you take out in the hunting field. Not this great lump!

I can't see the rifle in the links so, I'll have to imagine it. £1,695 for what is a Weihrauch HW77K. (How old is the donor HW77??) And a standard Weihrauch cylinder and barrel, but some internal gubbins, a spring and a Custom stock. They cost about £185 if from Custom Stock of Sheffield. So far so good. NOW THEN! I have a 9-year old HW77 rifle, full size .22 version in a factory-standard ambidextrous stock (no cheek-piece on the butt) but it's got a lovely figured grain and spotless beech one. I'm left handed. My rifle has had no fancy additional tuning bits or accessory bling added,

It makes no sense whatsover Mick! According to BASC on the law. You can shoot your air rifle on your permission from the age of 18 unsupervised. But this now apparently says you cannot transport/carry your cased, secured, unloaded air rifle to your permission unless accomapnied and supervised by someone of 21 years or older. Unless someone has made a typo error and means that, the ages from 14 to 17 years old, must be accompanied and supervised by a 21 year old or older person? An 18, 19 or 20 year old person may shoot unsupervised and transport his/her secured and unloaded rifle

The grooves, turns, rifling lands call them what you like, are there to simply impart spin to the round and provide gyroscopic stability in flight. The greater the precision in the way the lands are cut, the more accurate the bullet or pellet fired from that barrel will perform. This is why headsizes of air rifle pellets are so important to get right and maximise the accuracy from the barrel of your rifle. The lands or rifling are the fingerprint of the rifle as no two barrels are ever identicle in a particular make/model and calibre. There are always microscopic differences. And it is th

The Springer Is Alive.....i've Been Saved!!!
pianoman replied to RecoilReaper's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Nothing on earth would persuade me to sell my Three Weihrauch spring rifles. HW80 .22, HW77 .22 and HW97K .177 Any one of them is as accurate as any PCP I've shot with. -
As with Mark, I think you have a beautiful looking '97 in a Custom Stock sporter Mitch!

Tooo basic young Rez. You have to explain why a springer is best. YOU already know the answer you experienced devil don't you..............Laddie!

It really is a question of how seriously do you want to take up shooting an air rifle as a sport. Knowing what I know by sheer experience, I thank God for growing up on spring rifles and seeing the continued developements of the springer that have taken place in my lifetime so far. A superb quality spring rifle is a joyful thing to own. It really is. The rewards of hitting a rabbit through the head at 40-60 metres and further yet, is something you need to experience for yourselves. The difference with doing it with a spring rifle is controlling the recoil to a fine managed hold and control

Spring rifle. A good one. A cheap thing will not teach you anything. A PCP will not teach you anything much above point and shoot. WEIHRAUCH or AIR ARMS are the makers to look at for spring rifloes that are beautiful to shoot and will make a shooter out of you.

Diana were a quality air rifle maker for generations. When did they take over Daystate? I can't help but think that air rifle makers like Daystate, Logun etc are small cottage-industry-level concerns that set out with the right ideas to build a quality air rifle at an affordable cost. But, something goes south and they become a contractor. Where parts are made outside by a number of diferent companies and the company in the name just assembles them together. It's not long before these companies start cost-cutting measures of their own and the whole thing becomes an assembly of varying quality

Air Arms Pro Elite , Cost 525 Pounds?
pianoman replied to Newlife2's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
YES!! Grab it both handed! -
You are right Mitch. Any air rifle of this price point must be better set-up than this does off the peg-out of the box. I've said this time and again, but, Daystate had a really wonderful opportunity to build a world-class air rifle that was affordable to most working wage-packets. But they've seriously cocked it up with sending out, under-powered and under-manufactured. examples. Word of mouth is a powerful thing. Especially through social media like forums! After a couple of years of owning and shooting mine, I have to say, it is a superb hunting companion, now I have the silly power-c

Not yet Mac, XTX Air are tied up with a backlog of work. Once it gets clear later in the year, I'll be having the service/regulator work done. Nothing wrong with the Regal's accuracy it's absolutely beautiful. But a really good reg is what it needs to sort out the silly power curve. I reckon it will make this a really stunning performance rifle.

Really Poor Service From Allsports Gloucester
pianoman replied to Zimpara's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Sale Of Goods Act means if you are not happy that these pellets are found to be substandard condition and unfit for purpose, you can demand replacement or refund. Simple as that! -
So... What does that plunger-looking knob thing on the front of these rifles do?
