  1. That's looking amazing now Jimmy. Just as I like a stock to be. Not too light, but not too dark with rich browns in the tones. Lovely! To be honest, I think this may turn out better than the stock was originally finished at Weihrauch You definitely have a great talent here for this kind of work my friend
  2. That is a lovely colour coming through Jimmy. I'd like it a little darker maybe but, it is certainly looking very well and very nice indeed.
  3. Wonderful! I love watching Larry Potterfield's gunstock restorations on youtube and he uses this stuff. Magic! PM sent Jimmy about the latest update here but, it's starting to look fabulous mate!
  4. Bit harsh Jamie? Alright, true enough, the NS Mountmaster aren't exactly the best series of scopes an airgun can have; but the mounts are the key to this problem. They come free in the deal, so you think your getting a bargain to make the scope look like a great deal for your money. Er...No, sorry. It's not. They just threw in a set of otherwise unsaleable junk. Bin the ones that came with the scope they are not up to the job of mooring your scope securely to your recoiling spring rifle. I'd recommend you buy yourself a set of SPORTSMATCH Mounts and they will fix any movement pr
  5. I don't have the skills or know how to do this myself Billy. . But I can imagine this must be very satsfying and rewarding to do. I could be a happy man making my own designs of rifle stocks for myself and customers if there was a decent living to be made from it. My dad was a brilliant carpenter and wood worker who made a few shotgun stocks for himself and a few shooting friends of his. He could have made a professional life and career from it but, never had the desire to take it further than a bit of a past-time.
  6. My God! Now you've virtually taken it right back to the first moment it was cut from the factory pattern stock Jimmy. It now looks absolutely like brand new and raw. It's both exciting for how this mature beech stock is going to look. But it makes me a little sad too as, the patina of patchy wear marks, scratches and little dents and dings which resulted from some really memorable outings on my permission in west Yorkshire have now been erased forever. When I bought the rifle in 1998 there was a meaddow on my shoot bounded with the sloping woodland of the Went Valley that teemed wit
  7. That's the very one pesky. Haven't heard of anyone dealing in the rifle here yet. Feinwerkbau were always legendary for their superb build-quality in their air rifles. This will be a very sweet rifle I think.
  8. Just had a cast about on google for a FWB sport rifle and there is something out there about a new FEINWERKBAU SPORT 800 break barrel air rifle. Can anyone post up a link or images of it to this page? It looks very well, very modern, angular looking rifle. Open sights and four pin scope 11mm scope rails. Fishscale chequering panels on grip and forestock. Probably will cost a mint but it will be superbly well made.
  9. Thanks Vizlauk yes I do. I removed the sling swivel before sending it to Jim and it will go back in that hole when the stock comes back.
  10. Well, look at all this! You do the job how you think fit Jimmy in bringing out the grain pattern in the Beech to full effect.
  11. It was a beautiful looking rifle when it was just out the box new Gentlemen. It came from Guns International at Barnsley. A great shop and a fine fella and gunsmith who ran it, if anyone remembers Karl and his staff there? It's now closed and gone when Karl took retirement about ten years ago. He loved this rifle; and often told me, this particular HW80 was probably the best example he'd ever come upon. He originally tuned and serviced it and was always staggered by how accurate the rifle was proving on his test range. A 23 ft/lb recoiling break barrel spring rifle as accurate as a top-dra
  12. HW77 in an HW97 stock makes a beautiful looking rifle but it is a hefty result. for some shooters trying the mix. There are a few Youtube vids of people who have an HW57. All seem pleased and happy so, perhaps the pop-up breech issue is only affecting a small percentage of these guns? Surely Hull Cartridge would be duty bound to put it right is there was. Christ! Doesn't anyone check a gun before sending it out to the retailers anymore?? Would a pop-up breech limit the length of scope you can fit too though??
  13. My Air Arms TX200HC and Daystate Regal .177 rifles love these AA Field 4.51mm headsize pellets. Seems I can only get them from an ebay store though.
  14. My nearest is less than 10 minutes away. A beautiful, historic hotel. Furthest in West Yorkshire is about an hour and three quarters away. But two cracking farm permissions about 20 and 30 minutes away respectively. Great shooting on em' all really.
  15. I bet a new HW85 will be just as good as any for a good fettle and internal polish. Or a visit to Sandwell Field Sports. I'll give Tony Wall his due, he's a superb gunsmith for tuning Weihrauch spring rifles. I bet he'd make a stonking great rifle from an HW85.
  16. THAT'S IT! Just the way I want mine to look Jim. You've got in some lovely tones on this stock! Not too light, nice darks and the grain brought out well. I wish I could do things like this. My spare HW80 stock has a nice grain figure under the finish.
  17. The thing is Jim, I don't know what lies beneath the patina of wear. But it has some lovely rich dark tones of colours in the grain so, anything you can do to enhance these is really welcome. You be the judge as you're the man who will sand away all that surface finish and wear marks and see what lies really underneath it all. You bring out the wood as you see fit sir. You'll do a brilliant job I'm absolutely sure
  18. I will say quite honestly Mitch, Sandwell Field Sports always did some lovely custom air rifles of their own in the past. They had a beauty called a Banshee years ago now. Based on a Weihrauch HW95 I think, with a Custom Stock CS500 walnut stock and their tuning gubbins inside. It really looked very beautiful. Saw it in an Airgun World Buyer's Annual of about the year 2000. Fair play to them. They do a really good job on tuning an air rifle. Especially a Weihrauch spring rifle. Seems to be a favourite maker with Tony Wall.
  19. I saw one, once, a right-hander HW85 about ten years ago, maybe more, in a N.Yorks. gunshop I use and thought it was a real beauty. It wasn't for sale, it had been serviced by the resident gunsmith for a customer.. It looks just like an HW80 in a smaller, compact profile. I never forget that HW85 it definitely made a very favourable impression on me, just from the looks of it. You've got me starting to want to go look for a left handed version Tom-b. A google search and up this rifle comes from all over the place. Weihrauch seem to continue with it in their line up. Best regards.
  20. I had a feeling you'd be unhappy with the dye route. That dye colour looks rather nice. I like that colour. But I can see where it has set-in unevenly. Some areas are matt and others gloss. I can see why you want to scrap dying the wood Jim. I'm fine with whatever you decide mate. Some dyes to be honest are a bit hit or miss on rifle stocks. Some raise the grain fibres of the wood and give it a wet, gritty feel, some like this don't give an even finish. If possible. I'd like you to bring out the grain figures and give it a nice oil walnut stained finish. A nice, clean finish with an
  21. Haha that'll do it then Mitch  I have a great deal of respect for Si Pittaway. He's an old friend of mine and we've shared a lot of shooting together. But the lad seems to chop and change his air rifles every week these days! He's the best spokesman Sandwell Field Sports ever had
  22. HW85 is still available from Weihrauch it seems Tomburras. . Seriously tempted to see about getting one. It looks lovely and sleek in a Luxus stock, if Hull Cartridge import it in that spec.. It was intended as a cut-down HW80 to save on weight. Perhaps with a reduced cylinder dimension? But the HW95 took that role on as an alternative to the HW80 and has proven a popular spring break barrel rifle in its own right. The HW80 is not all that heavy, God knows I've been shooting them since they first came out back in 1982/83 and the one I've currently owned for the last 18 years (September
  23. Not for me. I'll take any of the single shot spring rifles I have, any day over this twin cylinder attempt to increase shot count through a full day of hunting. Or pack the air bottle for the Regal.
  24. I thought about a.25 on ticket. But. .22 is far faster, flatter shooting and hits decisively. Is there really any greater advantages with .25?
  25. The mags come in for a lot of stick and it's true what Moxy says about them becoming more and more like catologues. But, to those of us who were around well before the internet and computers came along, these were the only tangible link to what was going on and what rifles were getting the spotlight in reviews and in the articles. I remember Rod Lynton (HW35E shooter) and John Darling's (HW80 shooter) features in Airgun World and Airgunner , both of them Weihrauch spring rifle men. Those two writers got me onto buying my first Weihrauch rifle, one of the first HW80s' and a beautiful Fein
