  1. The way things are going with work David, you might be right there! Haven't been out much at all this summer, what with the poor weather as well as the time out I can't get away with. Still, I'll be down to pick it up by next week and we'll see what he's done with it for sure. Missing my pal Bigmac too. I want him down here for a session on the rabbits on my perms with me, when we can sort it. All the best. Simon
  2. FINALLY! Had word back from Carl, my Regal will be finished today. So emailed him to sort out when convenient to come down to pick it up and pay him! I guess there will be a wait for that response! Simon
  3. Agh! Pointed pellets! Apart from issues of dieselling lubes in the rifle, you won't group your shots at all with those pointed things. You need a domed, "Diablo" pellet. For an HW97K, whatever the calibre, try... AIR ARMS FIELD. JSBs H&N FIELD TARGET TROPHY. Infact any top quality pellet is worth a go. And watch the headsize of each pellet brand you are trying. If you get a decent group with a 4.52/.177 or 5.52/.22 you might get much tighter groups with 4.51mm or 5.51. My .177 HW97K groups beautifully with H&N Field Target Trophy in the 4.50mm headsize. Good luc
  4. Not at all Jon but thanks for letting me know what you know. I have the feeling that he's OCD about his standards, having seen his workshop and how he obsesses over every little detail and facet of the rifle. He'll tell you what every ounce of FPE is doing to the pellet and why the Harper Valve system is not good and God knows what hundreds of things else. That's good. But communications with his customers as to progress with an expensive rifle is a facet of business life he has to accept as a courtesy and a benchmark standard to his customers. I'm not surprised he's getting negative
  5. TWO emails sent and no response regarding progress on my Daystate Regal is causing me worry. I would have thought we would be somewhere close to completing the work? The last one was sent on August 4th. It's now the 10th! A bit of customer communications are overdue in my estimate Carl. Kindly respond please. Simon/Pianoman
  6. Belated Happy Birthday Littlehunter and I share David Evans' sentiments too. A grand lad you are. All our love and the very best for you and Grandma and Grandad! Simon and Helen XXX
  7. My Hw77 and HW80 are both .22 full-length versions and are extremely accurate. A genuine one-hole-pellet-on-pellet group does not lie. For that reason, I cannot recommend these rifles in full-length versions high enough. Perhaps Underdog has a point, I don't honestly know. I'm not a great fan of carbines anyway so, I'm biased to begin with. If I was buying or recommending an HW77 now, it would HAVE to be long. full length and in .22 flavour. Mine is more accurate than any PCP I have shot with. Ever! And both my HW80 and HW77 are my go-to hunting rifles. My HW97K is .177 and it's a fine gu
  8. Someone is going to get a beautiful rifle. Jimmy's work is absolutely craftsman quality.
  9. Good old fashioned British business values. 1.Make it as cheap as possible. 2.Cut the corners AGAIN where possible and save production time-costs further. Who cares if it's underpowered, inconsistent, the barrel shroud is loose and doesn't fit the barrel properly (That's why Daystate market that Airstream 6 silencer. It's so bloody short, it's not long enough to allow pellets to clip the muzzle as they exit the shit barrel shroud. It's also as much use as a silencer as a paper life-raft.) 3.SELL FOR A SHED-LOAD OF CASH. The customer is a punter, not a customer. And finall
  10. Thanks lads, I'm a lot better minded this morning. Weather looks good so, I'm planning a rabbit perm day with one of my Weihrauch spring rifles (#riflesthatwork.com) so, it'll be a nice day in the garden warming everything up and a trip out later. Can't argue with you about the HW97K Jimmy, the one I have is a beauty. Well, it's a poor cloud that has no silver lining and I'll get a superbly re-engineered custom-tuned multishot rifle at the end of it. And I can fit my chunky big A&M Marksman silencer without making the rifle forward heavy or over-long. It'll no longer be a Dayst
  11. It is in a way Mike. Just come home now after leaving the Regal with him to start work on. I'm bloody furious with what we found out. Inconsistent pressures in the cylinder, FPE all over the place, Pellets found to be clipping the silencer so, the barrel shroud needs shortening, possibly the barrel as well, which is what I wouldn't want if everything was alright with that. So that's a new thread to added... Apart from the new regulator, it's basically going to cost double the money quoted to bring it up to standards that should be in place already for a rifle at this price-point.
  12. Cheers Mitch. I can't wait to see how Carl's work will tranform this Regal of mine. I just want a precision accurate, hard hitting, penetrating shot with some guts behind it. Not bashing the poor animal's head in with a weakly underpowered thump at 35 yards.
  13. Cheers Gentlemen. Sorted out for Tuesday afternoon visit with the man.
  14. Hi there Carl. I need your full postal address for my satnav. I plan to visit you on Tuesday afternoon with my Daystate Regal for a regulator for it.. Please PM me if you -or anyone else here, has it. Many thanks. Simon
  15. This is good to read Viz. And you got your hunting pal back Jimmy!! I'm very pleased for you lads. . Now don't go selling your new gear and losing out on your sport again laddie!
  16. I usually zero my .22 HW77 and FAC HW80 .22 at 30 METRES (not Yards). But, lately, such is the smooth accuracy of both these rifles, I've been zeroing at 35 metres and the results are terrific. Hold under for ranges shorter than this but pretty much dead-on for 45-50 metres. Try it.
  17. Naming your rifles Jimmy??
  18. I like the look of it as a bit of fun, but so long as there's a practical power output. It'll be a weighty gun with so much extra wood surrounding the action. It's built on the Diana 350 underlever and that was a well-made decent rifle. Nothing wrong with Diana rifles generally so, I have no reason to think this will be a turkey.
  19. Scope looks to be a fixed-mag 4X32 Jimmy. Pretty good little scope too. I had one of these for years. All the best. Simon
  20. Hard wooden backstops, like old kitchen worktops of thick MDF and Mellomine (or however you spell it) or even a tree woodknot are dangerous for causing rebounds with sub-12 ft/lb guns and pellets. If there's not enough power to punch the pellet in deep, enough at least to the rim of the skirt, the pellet will deform on a hard, resistant surface to a ball of lead and come straight back with almost the same force that shot it there. It's like beating a hammer on an anvil top. It comes flying back in your hand and could smash you in the head! Be careful what you choose for a backstop when pli
  21. Thank you Jimmy bro! It's all about practice, how you address your shooting, how you begin holding the thing correctly and lightly and then, add in a sweet, gently slow and deliberate trigger let-off. Nothing pulled or tightly gripped. And then, there's controlling your breathing, slowing down your pulse and heartbeat, a proper follow-through and all clever stuff like that. But practicing it all together till it's a matter of second-nature instinct is what counts. You will "think" your shot to the target after a while, before you even slip the trigger. If you put the practice in, you ca
  22. I have to say what an incredible rifle this is, in this fantastic stock that Jimmy has transformed. The butt-pad makes it just about as near perfection for my fit as I've ever known with any rifle. I nailed 11 rabbits and a woodpigeon with it last night. The scope is an elderly and much loved Simmons Pro-Air 6-18x40 AO and suits this HW77 to a perfect Tee. Only a 30/30 duplex reticle but, zeroed at 35 metres optimum range on 'Gas mark 7, you only need only a little hold under for shorter range kills and a little holdover for anything further. It's the same with HW80 that Jimmy also breathed new
  23. How long a distance do you have in mind dia dogs? Springer will do it. PCP will do it. Question is, can YOU do it if you haven't shot with one in a long while? I have a Weihrauch HW80 FAC .22. A sub 12 ft/lb Weihrauch HW77 .22 and an HW97K .177 and all three will nail a rabbit through the head at 50-metres range. And way beyond that, if needs be. Best three spring rifles I have ever owned and will wipe the floor with any sub 12 ft/lb PCP out there. Or, there are Air Arms TX200, TX200HC or the beautiful Prosport underlever spring rifles. Incredible accuracy from these as well. Esp
