It's far too good a rifle to hang on the wall in retirement Michael. But, funny enough, I've thought about that when it cannot perform as well as it currently does. But it's so well made this HW80, it will probably outlive me. .... ....Then it can be buried with me! At least, I have a spare Left handed HW80 stock it's currently being used with, while Mac finishes off the work on her original and I'm out shooting with her still. But looking at what mac has accomplished here, I'm going to spend a lot of time just holding her and looking at her! -

What a lovey grain of walnut! Beats me too, why do this to a quality wood??? Surely, leaving the walnut alone with just an oiled once over would be a lot nicer than just finishing it off by choking it in a dipped varnish. Might as well used a plain hardwood beech and finished in the dip of varnish they've used to finish it. It looks a tasty little rifle this one Jimmy, what about writing us all a proper review of its performance when you've had a decent day's hunting and shoot with it. Particularly, accuracy and trigger performance as you found it on your day out with it. All the -

This is exactly what this stock has needed for years. The care and craft of a craftsman restorer to revive that beautiful cut of beech. . When the rifle is replaced into this stock it has to be one of the most beautiful examples of the classic HW80 .22 rifle there is.. Like a concourse example of a classic.. Is there any wonder why I vow this rifle will never be sold on?! I'm going to continue shooting with her, she's way too good to stick in the cabinet and take out occasionally. I'm just not going to take her out in any more downpours of rain and wet fields like I used to. Besides the -
Blueing was originally devised to protect metalwork from heat and burnt powder searing from the days of powder and ball shot and the first cartridge weapons. It didn't flake off like paint did and kept the looks of expensive sporting guns longer. Case-hardened steel with enamel finishing was time consuming and expensive to create as a finish overall, but blueing worked as an attractive and cost effective finish To the point where, nowadays, a rich, lustrous blue-black polished surface is the ideal finish that customers love to see on their guns. It's not designed as an anti rust or weatherproo

I'm looking forward to seeing how this Stoeger turns out Jimmy. From the pics you have of mine I'm just in awe of what you've done to it. So if there's a decent swirl of grain under the varnish in this Stoeger stock, you are the man to bring it forth. I've a good feeling it's going to be really something after you've finished it. -
I remember Prometheus pellets had a Nylon jacket. and have read of other two-component pellets that use Nylon plastic. I suppose there would be your answer Barry.

I'm already over the moon with it Charlie. I know we all love a swirl of grain in a walnut stock. But look how beautiful my lovely old beechwood stock has risen through the process. It's got some lovely features in its pattern. There were two major dings that I had tried to iron out that Jimmy has now completely erased and smoothed out. If there are any scratches left, I'm having a job seeing them. All I see is Exhibition grade Best Beechwood. To say I'm highly delighted is an understatement! -
Not yet on the Regal Andy, I'm strapped for spare cash at the moment. But I will have it done as soon as funds are in. A bent barrel is no great hardship to repair if the bloke knows what he's doing, with the kit to align it properly. It happened to my HW80 years ago after the barrel slipped from my grasp on cocking. Luckily it didn't do the scope or stock any damage. But the barrel bent northwards. Horrible to happen to a great rifle but, nothing that cannot be put right. I'm sure the fellas at your gunshop will have the know how to get you back shooting with it. All the best Andy. S

Iv still got a few coats to put on her and it takes 24 hours a coat to dry Then iv got to rub her with rubbing compound to smooth her out then buff to a high gloss finish yet it will be not this week end but next i think Im looking forward to getting her back together my self REZ and some shooting with the master of spring rifles him self PIANOMAN atvbmac  This is quite probably one of the finest FAC HW80 .22 rifles in existance Ratbuster. Hand on heart, this rifle is absolutely fantastic to shoot and hunt with. It was bought in 1998 and tuned by a real master -
Sounds like you're in the wars Andy. Unless your mate has a precision line metering device and a padded vice, I'd save the bollocks and buy a new barrel. Or take it to your local gunshop and see if they have a gunsmith who can re-align it.

That's incredible hard work Jimmy but be careful how you burn the midnight oil bonnie lad. It's not a race to beat a deadline with these things. And you need your wits about you at work. I get this way with my paintings but, I'm the boss here and can dictate my hours and rest-time off. But you have to rest when you can. It's all a mattter of being time-poor with me. I'd love to switch off work and devote time to learning how to do this myself. I'd love to be able to make an elegantly classical riflestock for my spring rifles too. Especially a full-length Stutzen stock for my HW77 .22 Bu -

Gentlemen. Just take a look at these photographs. If this isn't bespoke quality craftsman refurbishing on show here then, I cannot comprehend or fathom out what is! This is exhibition grade gunstock finishing surely. Jimmy I don't have the words to adequately express my appreciation or gratitude but we'll have a weekend of good food, beers and shooting when you come down with your dear wife to stay with us. You should be working at Purdy or Holland & Holland on bespoke restorations of customers' prized gunstocks with this standard of craftsmanship and finishing. I'm just in -

Jimmy these pics are doing fine by me mate honestly. I'm just looking at my HW80 in her reserve stock I'm using while her original is undergoing restoration with you. She's what some here would call a 'Musket'. With her Webley Venom SlimTech silencer she has a 21.3/4 inch barrel and that's the barrel length proper from the end of the breechblock to the muzzle-tip. And about 51 inches in total length. She's not everyone's cup of tea if they are Carbine lovers but to me, she is a mansize rifle and not for the faint hearted or the lightly-built smaller chap. Very Politically incorrect i -

That stock is looking..... .I'm running out of superlatives for what you are accomplishing here Jimmy. That is beautiful to look at. Professional, really smart. Beautiful. Who would have thought a plain Beechwood stock could be so transformed into this lovely looking classic. Just magic. Pure magic. . -

It is fantastic to see the transformation Jimmy puts into these gunstock refurbishments. This stock will be like mine that's coming towards finishing. Beautiful, refreshed and likely, it will better than the day it was originally made. -

I knew you'd start getting enquiries from other chaps about restoring their gunstocks Jimmy. I don't blame 'em What you have done here with mine, is not just to make this HW80 stock absolutely beautiful. You've actually made it better than it was when it was newly finished from Weihrauch themselves. I'm not just flattering you, I honestly mean it. This has all the looks it had plus the fleck is better realised than it was before. You've actually made it better than it was new. No one can't possibly ask for more. -
I have TWO ex wives. The last one gave me an ultimatum. "The guns or me" .... I'm still here and still shooting. I'm lucky that Helen totally gets what I'm about and let's me, be me. And I let her be her. That's what is should be about. Well iv got one x wife is that where i went wrong atvbmac  . I know a lot of blokes aren't so lucky with their choices of wife or partner

Ha! Don't worry, me and this old girl are a long way off retirement from shooting Mark. It's a gun to be used. She had a new Titan spring fitted and a full internal fettle, hone and polish only a few years ago by a great pal of mine who knows his Weihrauch spring rifles. This HW80 is just mint, high performance sweet and her stock is her crowning glory. She's not old. She's in her prime. She about to enter the next phase of her shooting life; and mine with her too! Other than my Daystate Regal. I will not be bothering with PCPs again. They just don't compare to this Tiger tank of -

Well I'm up and awake early this morning and having a fresh look at these pictures. It's pissing down outside so the planned dawn shoot with my HW77 .22 has been cancelled. I'm loving how the butt-stock is showing its grain-lines and the gold-fleck grain on it and of the forestock looks wonderful. I't just like it was when I bought the rifle back in 1998. And better in places! And I can still see places along the grain of the underside of the fore where it has worn out the surface and layer of varnish in my leading hand over the years. It's like you have given her a complete renewal a
