  1. can you do that at 40 metres with the same 3-9x56 scopes as i have ? I wouldn't balk at giving it a good try foxtails. I've got the rifle to do it and the right pellet to do it. At least I would be using Sportsmatch mounts for your scope (at the very least) . If the shot group wanders about, you'll know for certain, your scope is duff, mind. But if you can group your shots into a 5p size disc at 40 metres with your current scope set-up I'd say with reasonable confidence, you could hit a single pellet group yourself at 40 metres. It's all down to how well you practice and how ofte
  2. Pellet on pellet into the same hole as the first shot? Yep, I have spring rifles that can honestly do that at 40 metres. I hit a clean 35 metre, .177 calibre single pellet hole with 5 rounds using Philpot's Air Arms TX200HC .177. I set up his scope on 6Xmag which is my preferred mag set-up. His gun is a right hand version and I'm a leftie! Fabulously accurate rifle he has there. Phil and Jimmy witnessed me doing it! I reckon you could hit a pellet hole at 60 metres with it -it's only 20 more! It's just down to proper practice and a top gun with precisely the right pellet! I find it a bit more
  3. Bloody Hell Jimmy, you set up for an Arctic winter there mate! I've just landed a very cosy pair of barns full of warm straw and no end of pigeons to sort out. And the odd rat or two. That'll do me and the Regal or the HW77 .22 this winter!
  4. As I understand it, The Law is now saying Theresa May's Government is an unelected body as Theresa May was not the PM when this whole Brexit/referendum thing began, but with David Cameron who was the elected Prime Minister. She has won the leadership contest for the Conservative party following Cameron's decision to quit, who just happen to be currently in Government and thus, she may be the PM but she is there by default and not an elected one as Cameron was. Theresa May has used what is her Royal Charter which means, as the current Prime Minister she believes, as Prime Minister, elec
  5. Nice one Rabid it sounds like you have, indeed, one of the better, well-made Regals out there. I take Jimmy's post here into respectful account too. I really do try to be fair and give an honest account of what I see and find with a rifle I'm actually shooting with. And from what some other owners on shooting forums have said of their Daystate Regal, there are some that are spot on straight from the box. But there are others that are, in some cases worse than mine was. But, I take heart from Jimmy's post regarding Vizlauk's Air Wolf and truly hope Daystate have taken themselves in han
  6. My God! I don't think I've ever seen an air rifle stripped down that far before..... Clearly Si, you are a practical man who knows his stuff here.....I hope!
  7. As the lads here have said, I have a Daystate Regal that now, thanks to Carl at Airtech and a custom made regulator for it,, has become a bloody marvellous rifle for general vermin shooting. These are really beautiful rifles to shoot in all respects. I cannot fault mine....NOW! BUT. Fresh from the Daystate Factory the faults I found with mine were... 1.It was woefully underpowered. I saw pellets bounce off rabbits and pigeons at sensible ranges, that other decent guns would have killed clean out! 2.The Harper valve system uses a retention spring on the bolt assembly that make
  8. Great to read this Mark. Looks like you have a very happy outcome.
  9. I have both HW80 in .22 and a .22 HW77. If I had to buy both again, I'd happily spend the money on both again. These two are among the very best air rifles of all time, ever made. Both are absolutely beautiful, superbly well made, as accurate as you can be and utterly reliable. I would never be without my two here. My HW80 is 18 years old on my FAC, as clean, sweet and, thanks to my pal Mac' here, the original stock has been refurbished to better than it was brand new and the rifle hits how it should be. HARD, ACURATE AND FAST. Easily the best break barrel spring air rifle of all time
  10. You might as well chuck 20 quid down the drain if you reckon a scope that cheap will perform like one costing at least 5 times as much. Sounds like you really could do with a helping hand sat next to you and help figure out what's going wrong. Cheap Scope. Cheap Mounts. Reticle unresponsive to control from the turrets. Canting-over off true. Poor set-up. A lot working against you I'm afraid here mate. We've all had nightmares like this down the line. If the pictures of the scope you've posted are a clear indication of what you actually have here, the mounts alone aren't worth a
  11. Hi Mac and Littlehunter. Just bought a Land Rover Discovery. Brilliant shooting wagon ....Just not quite as sophisticated as this one you're sitting in Littlepal! We'll have a run out to the larger perm I have here when you come down again! Love and very best to you all there, Simon and Helen.
  12. Thank you Gaz. I have a very lovely Daystate Regal that has been regulated and refined by Carl at Airtech and it's a blisteringly accurate rifle right up to 11.7 F/P. But my HW80, HW77 .22s and .177 HW97K are absolutely beautiful rifles to shoot and hunt with. It is so much more satisfying to hit a clean, decisive kill on a rabbit or pigeon with a shot from one of my spring rifles, than this multishot PCP. Keep up the good work with your HW97 and it will reward you with some priceless shooting memories. All the best. Simon
  13. Nor can I flynndog . I have two, both of them WTC 4.5 - 14 X 40mm Super night view models, on my FAC HW80 and HW77 .22 spring rifles And they've lasted for years and years too. Simple 30/30 reticle and stays bang on zero all day. I shoot mine on 7Xmag and that keeps me fine all through the day to dusk or dawn low light shooting. For all that though, I have a couple of Hawk Panorama mildot scopes that really nice for my HW97K and have been the best and longest lasting of all the Hawk scopes I've had so far.
  14. Hi there Si. If your rifle is producing groups as good as this, you've got your answers right there on your targets! Might give this Napier lube a try myself after seeing your results here. My Airtech Regal loves Air Arms Fields 4.51mm. My HW80 and HW77 .22 spring rifles both loves H&N FTT in 5.53mm.
  15. You can buy a drop-in kit from Sandwell that has all that you list. The spring guide is individually profiled to the spring and the SFS kit I have fitted to my HW97K .177 is really fantastic. But for answers to technical questions, the best people to ask are Sandwell Field Sports themselves. They are a really friendly and helpful shop!
  16. Look for a green Swedish Army parka. Army surplus stores usually sell them. I use one I've had a few years now for winter nights and days out. Cheap to buy, it'll fit over your usual hunting jacket and pants and keep you warm as toast and waterproof. Good thermal socks and boots are a must.
  17. Sandwell do a full kit in their tuning mC Hull. I can't fault em!
  18. Christ what a rifle.....I mean, what an absolutely beautiful rifle and stock this example is. Jimmy, you've gotta stop posting gun porn like this. I'll not make it to 60! Got to buy one before I burst! We are both fine and well mate, thank you. Got a nice Landrover Discovery now for the medieval roads and holes we have in Lincolnshire! Love to you and Nicola and Littlehunter. Simon and Helen.
  19. Sorry to read what's happening to your feelings about shooting has a job expected of you Jimmy. But you'll be fine with a Pro Sport. One of the best spring rifles of all time in my view You'll be fine with it mate .....and don't pressure yourself, to feel obliged to have to go shooting to please anyone.
  20. Hi Mark. It's a decent price but, really, you are getting a genuine classic from a very prestige German air rifle maker. I had one in .22 when it was first launched and I wish I still had it now. If classical hunting is what you are after, you won't be badly off with this one! And a slight scuff on the stock isn't a bad bill of health for a rifle of this vintage and quality. I'm pretty sure it'll clean up and tune up into a real gem of an air rifle. All the best for it. Simon
  21. I've got a Sandwell Field Sports tuning kit fitted to my HW97K and it's a beauty to shoot with. Just a standard HW97 .177cal. in the factory Bavarian sporter stock but what a hunting rifle! It'll whack a rabbit out clean at some impressive ranges. Can't fault these guns or these kits really. All the best. Simon
  22. Hi Jemma and welcome here. One thing you must not do with a spring powered air rifle is try to shoot it from resting it on a post. Or any hard, solid "rest" for that matter. The gun will bounce on firing from its recoil and the barrel jumps, throwing your shot off target. You just need to practice. Try using a prone position. That is, lying down on the ground, making yourself as comfortable as possible. Use an old jacket to lie on and a beeny seat or a backpack with a pillow in it as a rest for your forearm to help you support the rifle comfortably. This will help you keep the rifle v
  23. If all else fails, ask at your local gunshop. They'll know someone who can do the job for you at a realistic cost.
  24. Just don't take a screwdriver to anything screw-shaped on your scope foxtails. The dials work by fingertip control. The top = elevation turret dials work in commonsense ways. That is, if your shot hits say, Higher up and left of your intended zero centre, you need to wind down the top turret dial till your shot is directly left of the zero-target on paralell with it. Usually turn it to left or anti-clockwise to move the reticle down to where you need it to be. Then, you need to to turn the windage dial LEFT in order to move it TO THE RIGHT in order for the cross-hairs or reticle to m
  25. I stick by what works and earns its keep. My HW80 .22 has just turned 18 years old from new -September 1998 from Guns International at Barnsley. No longer trading alas. It is my absolute heart and soul's delight. It's been a hardworking hunting air rifle from the day I bought it and has proved the best gun I've ever owned. Even my beloved HW77 has needed work to repair her where my HW80 has just gone on hitting thousands of rabbits heads at 20 to 60 yards with precision pellet placement. For just one replaced spring from new. My pal Jimmy here took the stock in and refurbished it with
