Started The Hw77 Stock
pianoman replied to bigmac 97kt's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
That'll be fine mate, you just take your time! -
Good shot Mark! I never flinch from a shot at a Magpie. As a youngster I once saw two Magpies rip the baby Blackbirds apart in a nest, right in front of their mother bird, going out of her mind with grief. I have never wasted a moment or a shot when out hunting them ever since. Hateful b*****d things. Good work mate!

Jimmy I'm speechless and in total bloody awe of what you done here for me. I'll never be able to fully express all my appreciation and the gratitude I feel for the kindness and admiration of regards I hold you in. Both an absolutely stunning HW77 Mk.I stock and a truly beautiful Prosport stock conversion to left hand. Well, I can only compliment the HW77 stock with the action of my beautiful HW77 .22 rifle. And I have a lovely Simmons Pro Air 6 -18x 40mm to give it a fully retro, classical sporting look. And it will still knock any PCP into touch for sheer accuracy and smoothness. -
AIR ARMS Fields in 5.52 might be the pellet for this TX Matt? Looks a very nicely looked-after gun you've got for yourself here.

Reshaping A Pro Sport To A Lefty
pianoman replied to bigmac 97kt's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
I think I heard there was a mean, spiteful falling out within the management of Air Arms that has lead to the Prosport being produced and restricted to right hand only rifles. The head of the company is a left handed shooter. You'd have thought..... Y'Know There were left handed stocks in right handed actions released a for a short while then, withdrawn suddenly as they appeared. But these are unlikely to come up for sale again. Fot the like of fellows like me, it's the boundless kindness and superb craft skills of our Jimmy here that is the only chance I have of owning this rifle i -
Great to see Littlehunter interacting with us all here and sharing his hunting posts for us to read and enjoy. It's a great thing to see a younger lad coming on and improving his shooting and hunting skills. Well done young Master and keep us informed of your hunting forays with Granddad! All the best dear lad. Simon

Great shooting bonnie lad! Your grandfather is a great man Littlehunter. Learn all you can from him and you will not go wrong young sir. Simon the Pianoman!

Cracking fine scopes the Bushnell Legend series Andy I use a Simmons Pro-Air 6-18x40 which is a 30/30 reticle and a beauty of a scope (no longer made) on my HW77. Though on that rifle, right now, is a really brilliant BUSHNELL SCOPECHIEF 4-14x50 AO scope with a 30/30 reticle. One of the very best scopes I've ever put on an air rifle and , true to form, THEY NO LONGER MAKE IT! A Simmons Whitetail Classic 4.5- 14x40 AO on my HW80 .22. Also no longer made. On my Regal I currently have a Hawke Panorama 4-12x40 which is a beautiful little scope and keeps the rifle light and pointably

Typical situation of a man who has mastered a craft skill. He makes it look a lot easier than it really is I wouldn't know where to begin, what quantities of Nitro-Mors, how to apply it, how you completely remove the old finishes, what grit sandpapers to buy, how much Tru-Oil to prepare without being too rich, too lean etc.. Then bring it all together in the finishing and polishing. Marvellous skills on display here... -

After looking at the pics of your latest work on this HW77 stock Jimmy, I've run out of my quota of likes so these will have to do. This is bespoke gunstock refurbishment on a par with the finest English Gunstock finishers of the calibre of Purdy, Holland & Holland. And all... :signthankspin: :drinks: -

Jimmy I'm fast running out of superlatives again. But this is just amazing what you've brought put to the surface here. Dare I ask if you can give her a glass like finish all round? I just think it would seal this incredible degree of grain swirl. I don't recall ever seeing a beechwood stock as beautiful, as fully figured as this one. I'm just in total awe of your skills and your sheer generosity of kindness. I thought my HW80 stock was incredible. And it really is. I thought nothing could match it, but, I have to admit, this one takes the title! This whole stock is a measure of t -
So tempted to answer as Rez has! Seriously they are superb sporting spring rifles. Mine too is a .177 K in a lovely Bavarian sporter stock and it really does the business with H&N Field Target Trophy 4.50 headsize. Ive had some amazing shots on rabbits at long ranges with my HW97K.
-
That might be because of a difference in headsize Phil? I've got a couple of tins of Bisley Magnum .177 4.51mm headsize pellets and been trying them in my .177 Daystate Regal, which loves 4.51mm Air Arms Field Diablos. . Very impressed when the Magnums grouped well on my test range and then, took out two pigeons at over 50 metres off the trees at the bottom of the garden. Very impressive performance. Going out with them on the rabbits tomorrow night.

Little Hunters First Go Of His New Hw100, 177

There's a formidable young shot emerging here Gentlemen. You watch, there will be much more where these tight groups come from -
Try to get a really proper test of the feel, handling and accuracy of any rifle you like the look of before you buy it Philpot. TX200 in .22 is a rifle I know well and owned one for ten years. I could put any amount of pellets on pellets at a target range of 40 metres. Yet when I went out to hunt rabbits with it, I kept missing! I never could work out why that was. But, along came a very sweet HW97KT .177 and the TX200 .22 was traded in for it. Then, I traded the Weihrauch KT Thumbhole stock for the Bavaria Sporter stock of the K model which suits me infinitely better and I'm absolutely t

Jimmy my dear friend......If I could sing your praises higher.... -
Certainly there is Matt, my bonny lad............... 'Keep looking eh! The way this 77's coming along your going to have 2 of the best looking hw springers out there simon. They look fantastic pal. You are right there Matt. It's taken me almost the whole of my life to finally own both of the ultimate classic Weihrauch spring rifles that are the pinnacle of their type. And the stocks Jimmy is turning around are the best I've ever seen on these two rifles. My HW77 currently sits in a really lovely ambidextrous stock but, it's going to be fitted to this one here and I'll keep the o

Nice as that Prosport is, I wouldn't mind being able to really test it and pitch it fair and square against my HW77. One .22 underlever against the merits of another as it were. Really give each a rifle a completely unbiased test of handling and accuracy downrange to ever increasing distance-ranges. Both these underlevers really please my senses and instincts for shooting. Both are truly magnificent spring air rifles that are a joy to shoot with. ......Oh..if only that Prosprt was available to us left handers..... -
Delighted to help out Philpot it'll be lovely to meet you with my dear pal here. I'll get you sorted out with springer shooting Phil mate don't worry. Generally, a moderator or silencer is a bit of a waste of time and money for most 12-ft/lb spring rifles. TX200 in .22 is very refined and smooth with not a lot of report at the muzzle. I have a silencer fitted to my HW80 FAC .22 which has reduced some of the crack this rifle can whack out and, it helps to balance against muzzle flip as she is a heavy recoilng rifle. But that's about it really. You don't need to fit one as a rule, unl

Have a read my pinned post thread on Spring Air Rifle shooting philpot. I've written only what I know what works and are the proven facts, after a lifetime of shooting spring piston air guns. TX200 series are an amazing rifle to have. Just reluctantly sold my last TX200HC as it was getting left behind in favour of my H Weihrauch spring rifles. A shame to have a rifle that good left behind gathering dust. A cheap scope is not going to wonders for your confidence either. All the best and don't give up on spring power mate! Simon
